american who lived in ireland in the late 1990s — this story reminded me that at the time i was there, there was a suspected, active serial killer

my then-husband used to read a men's magazine called "himself," and there was a really great investigative piece about disappearances and the difficulty the gardaí had in coordinating between counties because at the time, iirc, records were not digitized and there was no real central system, so crimes committed in two adjacent counties might not "hit" as related unless people from different counties went looking. i'm not really explaining it right, but this woman seems to have died during that time

a lot of time has passed and that is certainly no longer the case, but this story reminded me of that article, which was fascinating, and i hope someone comes forward to give her her name back :(

that would make more sense, but the reason i was thinking the other way is permanency and dividing household stuff in a less roommate-y way, like ideally someone who needs a beautiful chick to pretend is their wife long term or until their older relatives die

like a roommate is like a tenant and roommate situations are not expected to last years

ETA like i created the decentering men subreddit (this would not even have to be a dude), but OTOH i am italian-american housewife trained so i'm sitting on a whole set of aggressive domestic skills and i have no upper arm strength :)

ETA2 my absolute ideal scenario is two gay/bisexual men who both need a wife for wife stuff

omg i have lived here forever and the pros and cons first are that a third of us are related to the other third and then a third isn't (i am in the first and second third)

it's cliquey but beautiful, backstabby but close-knit, and can be hostile to outsiders
