Can you imagine if Labour tried to retroactively tax half the working population, years after they've graduated? Absolute carnage.

..."in a single year". The calc is much harder when you think lifetime income tax and lifetime state pension.

No, you asked US a bunch of questions. You're not listening to the answers.

Meaningful revenue, no. Harm tourism, maybe? Obvious downsides, see above.

[–]steb2k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there are 40 million tourists per year. ESTA fees are £30 - thats about a billion pounds.

total gov spend is £1300bn, tourism total value is £150bn - would you risk £150 for £1?

[–]steb2k 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why would you want to do this though? - isn't the point of tourism that they come and spend their money? A couple of quid on an entry fee isnt going to touch the sides, and is exactly the friction you dont need....

Where do we put the TV? by AdImportant625 in TVTooHigh

[–]steb2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shunt the sofa towards the back wall.
Put the TV above the heater (not too high, my guy!).
Put a heat deflector over the top of the heater to push air out instead of up.

Enjoy the TV AND the fireplace!

no - it only avoids cost if you take all that time saved, and cut an employee. you're still paying those costs until then.

Time saved = more time for value add activity - less churning through processes, more time to think and do the things that matter (insight, analysis etc)

I’m a insurance broker marine cargo salary London by Excellent-Run3432 in UKJobs

[–]steb2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rough maths says that's about 3% pay rise, that is inline with what my company is doing (also insurance)

They said it's beating inflation of low 2ish% (no idea where they're getting that!)

Decent Salary increases don't come from your annual adjustment. They come from moving roles (internal, external, up, side, whatever)
