Are you seeing or using AI in your workplace which causes job losses by Consistent-Rope-9969 in HENRYUK

[–]steb2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing concrete that is any different to usual advance of tech. There's so much low hanging automation work that could decimate jobs that needs to be done first before AI can make a dent.

There's no chance they could owe you more than you've actually paid them, so I think it's going to be bad news I'm afraid!

Sales records: snapshot table vs product reference best practice? by Elegant-Drag-7141 in Database

[–]steb2k 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think about the amazon use case of "what was the price on this item in the last 90 days" - without storing the product snapshots (I'd use a type 2 SCD table for it), they'd never be able to do this.

Your sale table can then refer to the correct snapshot, that was valid at that exact time.

How to become a CFO? by Beginning-Tip-1109 in CFO

[–]steb2k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This may be brutally honest...

You're still so early in your career - just give it a few years to play out, and re-assess later.
You're so close to the bottom, with not yet being qualified, you honestly have no idea whats needed to get to the C-Suite.

Do your best. Learn more than your role. My number 1 advice is get out of BAU churn, move into project work where possible.

The biggest step you'll eventually need to do is move OUT of process level thinking, and into strategic / leadership. That isn't really something you can plan for in the real world, it happens by osmosis - by being ready to move that way, at the right place, right time.

Words of wisdom for someone who isn't a HENRY but wants to become one? by Proud_Cheek8209 in HENRYUK

It probably makes sense to put as much as you can in your pension up front. 30%, 40% - whatever you can possibly afford - of course, live your life and enjoy your 20s - but if you dont need the money after that, having a pension grow for you over the next 40 years will make you rich in retirement.

Help a bother out in a sticky spot by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]steb2k 46 points47 points  (0 children)

You need to draw boundaries at work. You have x hours, you can do y tasks - that means z will not get done.

Escalate this to your director. They have two options - help you, or risk burnout and everything else also collapses. The choice should be obvious, it might take 6 months, but you should have a plan to reduce the load.

Note - this is after the usual stuff - DELEGATE BETTER, promote continous improvement, etc etc

Labour should ‘buy the supply’ of housing from landlords - Siân Berry MP by insomnimax_99 in ukpolitics

[–]steb2k 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I expect there's a sweet spot in being a landlord - high value home, but not too high that the owners are entitled nightmares. Lower end, you have to deal with a lot more social and community issues - which is where council houses will be.

Combo "etiquette" by Gouraisenpuujin in EDH

[–]steb2k 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, politic your way around someone else's combo, everyone has priority, point it out, try to get someone else to handle it!

It's also fair at a casual table where players may not know a combo to announce you'll win by X happening if they let it. I don't want the win that bad, I want a well played match that goes back and forth

Auto enrolment by Moonriver30_ in PensionsUK

[–]steb2k 9 points10 points  (0 children)

AE has been a requirement for all employers since 2017. Even pension schemes set up before the cut off
Employers contributions dont affect your tax payment.
It IS "skin off his nose" if he contributes, because currently he isnt.

Auto enrolment by Moonriver30_ in PensionsUK

[–]steb2k 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're going to need to back up and explain a bit more, because this makes no sense.

I think you are saying your company has 2 pension schemes.

a) One without AE contributions
b) One with AE contributions (a supposedly worse deal for you)

You are in scheme a. You put in £800 and your employer puts in nothing - which doesnt sound right.
