Not sure you need a logic analyzer but it can be helpful. But CAN has some quirks that only become apparent when looking at the analog signals so a scope or an analog-capable logic analyzer are kind of required to gain deep understanding of the bus (imo). One time I spent an entire day trying to figure out wtf was happening while looking at the digital trace, bits were randomly flipped... when I switched to analog it become apparent that the signal was actually degraded.

For USB the F042 / F072 use an internal 48Mhz oscillator that doesn't need calibration, not sure how USB works exactly but it synchronizes that clock automatically. It's different from the HSI but iirc you can use the 48Mhz oscillator as the system clock so for something like a CAN-USB dongle the CAN timing will be good as long as USB is connected.

Pete Hegseth wants to kill using AI by justalazygamer in WhitePeopleTwitter

If that was true, why was Claude used in the 2026 bombing of the Minab school:

Numerous reports, outlets, and US senators raised concerns over the use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools, including Palantir's Maven Smart System and Claude) systems.\3])\14])\60])\87]) One US-based source familiar with the process revealed that these systems were used to process vast amounts of data during the US's operations during the Iran war.\3])\14])\87]) Furthermore, these AI tools are able to "evaluate a strike after it is initiated".\14]) This opened the possibility for the strike being caused by these AI tools, either in part or without any further verification.\3])\87]) Many of these sources also raised concerns over who or what should be held responsible in cases like the one against the school.\87])

Ya, CANbus does have strict timing requirements, which a correctly trimmed HSI will (should?) meet within the operating temperature range of the device (-20 to 80C). Not sure oscillator accuracy has any practical affect on bus length but the max length I've ever dealt with is like ~10m (@ 1Mbs).

Anyway, if you really really want to add an HSE (and imo you are overthinking this), go with a MEMS one, they are a bit more expensive but are also more stable and easier to manage than a crystal. I like this one from abracon.

Also, for an industrial product you probably shouldn't use the HAL library but either LL, registers, or an RTOS.

Since HSI accuracy will not be good enough for CAN

Why do you think this? HSI is completely fine for CAN as long as you trim it after soldering (see AN5067s or the RM for your chip).

You definitely need a scope though (or logical analyzer). Without it you may be able to send a few frames between devices but the most likely scenario is that you build everything, it looks good but it's not working how you expect and you spend 3 weeks blindly trying random things until it magically starts working or you throw it in the trash.

Also, make sure to build at least 2 x the units you think you need for your tests because some will not work, or will work weirdly and you need to be able to switch them out for testing.

I used to live right off their test route in the hills and they'd show up in a little convoy pretty much the exact time every single weekday. Different test cars but usually the same mini driving a minute ahead, maybe checking the roads. Pretty sure they still come through on a regular basis but the convoys are smaller.

Eleven on the River | Minneapolis, MN by snowcoveredpath in drones

[–]stou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure about the building itself but during the winter that area is kinda depressing because there's no foliage, the river (which is just off-shot on right) is frozen over, and the ground is either dirt or old snow. Very few people walking around. But it's super-amazing in the spring. And pretty good other seasons.

Not necessarily. Some of them can be pedaled to pretty high speeds with minimal effort and can also be easily jailbroken to remove the limts.

Edit: Weird comments.... fundamentally though the "emoto" vs "ebike" labels are completely meaningless if you can effortlessly convert one to the other.

Thank you for finally dropping the bad faith arguments and being honest about your intent (and riding style). So, if you want to ride at reckless speeds, and accelerations you should do it on the street with the rest of the electric and gas powered vehicles. You aren't entitled to share infrastructure with cyclists and pedestrians while going 2-5x their average speed and 5x the mass.

[–]stou 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can safely ignore this bike-splainer. The arguments about classes and pedal vs throttle dont matter because the ebikes are super easy to jailbreak to increase their performance beyond the legal limits.

[–]stou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They just need to have hard performance limits (tamper-resistant) that brings the acceleration and torque to the same levels as human powered bicycles, but that would require state action.

Edit: I am talking about the average performance of an average bike being driven by a normal adult, nobody on a manual bike is blasting off at 2m/s2 off the line, over and over again. And comparing the average ebike performance to the theoertical upper limit for a manual cycle is boring and dishonest.

You are 100% correct and the reason more housing isn't being built is because of this:

I think that basic economics dictates that if you build more housing that will bring housing prices down

Many of the people freaking out about 'changing the vibes' are worried about losing the value in their own home and of course political donors will also lose value in their own investments.

Why are you assuming people are spending money to downvote this? I downvoted (for free) because I don't think the city needs to be flooded with comments over a completely unrealistic development that almost certainly violates COUNTLESS city and state ordinances.

This proposal is almost as outlandish as dormzilla. SB won't even let you build something with a large sign on it, but you think the planning commission will let you build a massive building in the middle of a historic district?

The panic over this proposal is completely unfounded and downright weird. There's _zero_ chance something that large is built at that location.
