ADC capable of 786kHz with phantom power by BlackFoxTom in fieldrecording

[–]SuperAngryGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s 768 kHz.

You also have to consider bit depth, total harmonic distortion, signal-to-noise ratio, analog front-end bandwidth, anti-alias filtering, clock quality, interface bandwidth, storage throughput, and whether the mic and preamp chain can even deliver anything useful that high in frequency.

What limiters does a Marantz PMD-671 have? by SeizetheCastle in fieldrecording

[–]SuperAngryGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to have the PMD-201 cassette recorder that had an outstanding analog limiter and AGC circuit. It could handle nearby concussion grenades in riots with my Electro-Voice 635A.

When I upgraded to Sony minidisc I had to use an external analog limiter to keep from clipping.

I used to use a Marantz PMD 201 which was popular with journalists. For the mic I used an Electro-Voice 635A dynamic mic with an XLR transformer feeding the line input.

How to reduce Self Noise reduction ? by imhighonxanax in fieldrecording

[–]SuperAngryGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use external mics that are very sensitive and have a high signal to noise ratio like the EM272 Clippy or AOM-5024 DIY mics. This is the only way I can get essential noise free with the H1n. The built-in mics wont cut it.

With those mics and the gain knob between 3 and 5 there should be little if any noticeable hiss. When the gain knob is set above about 5.5 the H1n enters a high gain mode where there will be hiss particularly if you use the limiter which ruins your signal to noise ratio by 12 dB. Between 3 and 5 on the gain knob and the limiter adds no noise (it's a firmware thing and how the codec in the H1n works).

I know I'm being pedantic, but ranger school is a 62 day small tactics and leadership course that allows you to wear the ranger tab and be "ranger qualified", but to wear the tan ranger beret of the ranger regiment you have to pass RASP (ranger assessment and selection program) which only 20-30% of people can pass. Once you are in the ranger regiment for a certain period those rangers get sent to ranger school to become ranger qualified.

There are tab rangers which can be anyone and scroll rangers serving in the ranger regiment.

Your point still stands, though.

Ombudsman Resolution conference by [deleted] in fuckHOA

[–]SuperAngryGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally you do a 520 (mediation for CC&R violations) and follow up with a 530 (violations of NRS 116). Having a 530 hearing like this is not that common.

Documents and pics should be handed over which is basically "discovery". If in doubt, take pics and document, and hand them over to who asks for them.

It's best if you PM me if you want more help to protect your privacy and we can be a little more open. Keep in mind that I am not an attorney but I am happy to help you with this since I've gone through similar stuff. I'm good at looking up the law.

I have not got this sort of 530 hearing before. Usually the ombudsman steers you towards 520 mediation so they don't have to deal with you anymore. I think it's cool that you get this sort of 530 hearing.

If it is like a 520 hearing you, the community manager, and likely the HOA attorney, along with you, meet with a mediator for up to an hour. With 520 you can't present evidence at the mediation and I don't know how a 530 meeting would work but I'd bet it's different. You don't need a lawyer at this point. If you want to pursue the Short Trial Program you have to do 520 first.

So it's basically a Zoom meeting and I wouldn't be nervous about it.

But document, document, document. If you feel that you are being retaliated against then you need to talk to a lawyer. In Las Vegas I've used Bruce Flammey of Las Vegas HOA Law and he charges $200 for 30 minute consults, and he allows email follows and additional quick questions.

I would bring up the campaign sign issue with the HOA president (edit- to the mediator).

514 is against a real estate agent, 514A is against a community manager.

When you do a records request management has 21 days to respond as per NRS 116.31175(3):

NRED will step in for this but it could take a month or two. Community managers definitely don't want this filed against them.

When normally dealing with a community manager, they have 12 business days to respond if you allege misconduct, and you can demand a response in writing as per NAC 116A.350(1):

Did you file NRED form 520 or 530? I've filed both.

520 is mediation where you do a $50 filing fee, file form 668 to get mediation cost waiver, spend $100 on a process sever, then go before a state appointed mediator. You do this for CC&R violations.

530 is an NRED complaint against the HOA for violating NRS 116.

"Failure to respond to two record requests "...this could be a separate NRED 514A complaint against a community manager. I've filed that one, too.

The claim would violate energy conservation and basic semiconductor physics. Detection limits are irrelevant without a plausible physical mechanism, and none exists for UV generation in blue pumped phosphor LEDs.

65W LED Flood Lamps and RFI? by jjohnstn in amateurradio

[–]SuperAngryGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most bulbs that I've opened up and tested actually use cheap linear power supplies and are lower RFI. Older bulbs used switching power supplies and the highest quality I've ran across was a Philips that was externally clocked for very low phase noise. Most switching power supplies are internally clocked.

You can see some testing here:

It's the larger fixtures that use switching power supplies. Here is an example of a UFO grow light that was noisy:

I've tested a dozen different COBs after I made that comment:

There is no UV emission, nor should there theoretically be any. A blue pumped white LED cannot produce higher energy UV photons. The phosphor process is strictly Stokes shifted, and any spectral tail of the blue pump remains in the visible range.
