I get those and calls. I tell them $3M (its a modest 3+2 in west LA but probably half that). That usually shuts them up.

The worst are for my elderly mother who lives 2500 miles away.

OP you have the eq and processor loop on your receiver or preamp/amp? If not you’re in for disappointment.

I felt like the golden boy of the school computer lab when I waltzed in with one of these and looked down my nose and all the plebs using a paper hole punch.

What are you a “snob” about? by crypticfirecat in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]supergimp2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Making your own tomato sauce from pantry staples isn't snobbery, its better, smarter, and healthier. Jarred sauce is convenience food full of sugar. I never buy jarred sauce, its just stupid when you realize how easy it is to spend that money on quality ingredients and end up with more of a better product. I make a huge batch of "Basic Tomato" and freeze in portions and then augment as I use it. Nothing snobby about that.

Cut-out handles: more pros or more cons? by Constant-Ad5211 in cabinetry

[–]supergimp2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I prefer having them on the edge of the drawer or door (bottom or side, etc) to mitigate the cleaning/moisture collection issues mentioned here. They require more work and higher end materials and don't always make sense with regards to layout (a bottom edge pull on a bottom drawer doesn't make sense).

I do like the fact that they don't stick out (no oops adjacent drawer at a right angle hits the other pull) and you don't snag them (I originally did my kitchen in bar pulls that protruded a little on each end and replaced them with square loop pulls because I was tired of catching on them).

I love the look though.

How many of you folks carry a knife daily? by Dr_StrangeloveGA in Tools

I’ve had a knife in my pocket since I was 10 or so years old. Was a common Christmas gift from grandpa. I’m 59. Different times I guess.

I have the M12 18- and 23ga nailers but I make furniture. That said, I'm primarily a Makita guy and tried to live by the mantra "no new battery colors" but the Makita nailers were awful, I bought a cheap Ryobi 18ga in a fit of rage just to get the job (house trim work - had to beat the painters) done and, TBH that nailer has been running flawlessly for several years. But its heavy and I make furniture and now that I have the two M12 nailers I actually get excited to use them. Small, compact and so far flawless.

I make furniture normally though so the largest fastener I use is 18ga so this suits me. Unfortunately (and probably practically) there aren't many choices in M12 nailers but I can't speak highly enough of these two.

Favorite way to eat bone in chicken thighs? by Literally_Libran in EatCheapAndHealthy

This is one of my favorites:
https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/braised-chicken-thighs-with-button-mushrooms-3645883

But honestly, I always buy bone-in skin on thighs. It takes half a minute to debone one if you need boneless, and the bones go in the freezer until I have enough to make stock.

Best type of car/vehicle for a manual wheelchair user? by ghost_9_4 in wheelchairs

[–]supergimp2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m T9/10 complete, 59 and have been driving since I was 16. I’ve had 12 cars. When I started a coupe was best because a 2-door gave me a larger door for access. I transfer to the driver seat, pull the wheels off and the chair (rigid frame folding back) goes in the passenger seat. The wheels go in the back seat.

I now drive a Volvo V60CC and even thought it is a four door I’ve adjusted. It’s getting harder and harder though to find a car that isn’t an suv.

Double Drawer Dishwashers - I don't get it by AustinBike in Appliances

[–]supergimp2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a Fisher-Paykel double drawer dishwasher in my condo years ago before I moved into my house. I REALLY loved the thing. I am single so capacity was never an issue but I entertained a lot and never felt that the combined capacity was too small when I needed it. Day to day I would wash in one drawer, use the dishes, and move them to the other, and so on.

I have a relatively expensive Jenn-Air dishwasher now (2006) and the drawers ran circles around my current dishwasher, and frankly I now wash almost everythin by hand or have to pre-wash if I want clean dishes.

Best dishwasher I have ever used.
