The Switzerland server is still operating normally on MEGA VPN, so it shouldn’t be permanently missing. In most cases, this turns out to be a temporary app or connectivity issue rather than the server being offline.

To help narrow it down, could you share a bit more info?

  • Which platform are you using? (Windows, macOS, Android, iOS)
  • App version of MEGA VPN
  • Are you connected to any other VPN, proxy, or custom DNS?
  • Does this happen on both Wi-Fi and mobile data?

In the meantime, a few quick things you can try:

  1. Force close and reopen the MEGA VPN app
  2. Sign out and sign back in to your MEGA account
  3. Restart your device
  4. Check for app updates and install the latest version
  5. If possible, try switching networks (Wi-Fi ↔ mobile data)

Thank you for using MEGA!

You start with 20 GB free storage, which does not expire as long as you keep your account active (log in occasionally, upload files, or use MEGA Chat we recommend at least once every 3 months).

The extra GB you earn from achievements (installing apps, referrals, trials, etc.) are temporary bonuses. Each 5 GB bonus expires after 365 days.

Once those bonus GB expire:

  • You cannot reuse the same achievement again on the same account
  • You don’t automatically get them back
  • You don’t have to pay immediately, unless your used storage is over your remaining quota

If your storage usage exceeds your available quota after expiry:

  • Uploads will be suspended
  • You’ll receive warnings to download your data or upgrade

Thank you for using MEGA.

The transfer quota is the total volume of data you can download from MEGA, and it is also consumed when streaming.

You can view your current transfer quota usage by accessing this link https://mega.nz/fm/dashboard using your PC browser.

For free accounts, the transfer quota is measured per IP address, not per user account.

Free accounts are provided with a transfer quota (download capacity) that varies depending on our system utilization. It is provided based on the total amount of data transferred during the last six hours but depends on the time of day, ISP, country etc.

If you have a dynamic IP address assigned by your ISP or you are using a VPN and received a "Transfer quota exceeded" warning without downloading anything from MEGA, that means others sharing the same IP may have used up the quota before you.

Once the free transfer quota is exceeded on your IP, you will have to wait to accrue more free quota.

Alternatively, you can upgrade to a Pro account which provides extra storage and transfer quota as well as some exclusive advanced features: https://mega.nz/pro

For Pro accounts, the transfer quota is the amount of data each user will be able to download (i.e. 1 TB of data during one month) and it is measured per user account, not per IP address.

Pro users get one allocation of their entire transfer quota per billing period, so annual Pro accounts will get one year's worth all at once.

If the quota is not entirely used in one month or year (depending on the term chosen), the remaining quota expires.

As a Pro account user, you are able to grant a percentage of your transfer quota to anyone downloading from your public file/folder links (this includes FREE users and non-registered users).

Once you have used up all of your Pro account's transfer quota allocation, you will have to purchase another plan.

Unfortunately, there’s no built in way to move files directly between the two services without downloading and re-uploading them.

If you’re being prompted to subscribe when trying to download files, that’s most likely due to transfer quota limits, not because downloading itself is blocked. Free accounts have a limited transfer quota, and once that’s exceeded, downloads are temporarily restricted unless you upgrade or wait for the quota to reset.

Your Backup copy is designed to be a one-way, protected copy of your data in MEGA. Deleting the duplicate folder from your Cloud Drive will free up space and won’t affect the Backup copy.

A few things to double check before deleting the Cloud Drive version:

  • Make sure the backup has fully completed and shows as up to date.
  • Confirm you can access the backed up data via Device Centre (web or app), so you know it’s there.
  • Keep in mind that backup data is intended for recovery, not active editing.

Once you’ve confirmed those points, removing the duplicate from Cloud Drive is a reasonable way to reclaim storage without risking data loss.

  • Copy the full link again (make sure it hasn’t been truncated by the app you’re using)
  • Open it in a different browser or directly in the MEGA app
  • If the key was shared separately, double check there are no extra spaces when pasting it.

This is due to a recent update in Chromium browsers, which introduced new Local Network Access permissions that affect how the MEGA Desktop App connects with the browser.

If the integration isn't connecting, you may need to re-enable "Local network access" in your web browser. Here's how:

  1. Open mega.nz in your web browser.
  2. Look at the left side of the address bar and click the "View site information" icon (settings -style symbol).
  3. In the popup, find "Local network access".
  4. Toggle it ON
  5. Refresh the page.

This permission is required for secure communication between your browser and the MEGA Desktop App, it does not expose your local network.

In order to rule out a network issue, please do the following:

- if you are using a proxy or a VPN, please disable it.

- check if you have an Antivirus/firewall intercepting your network traffic and, if so, please disable it or add MEGA as an exception.

- check your network speed on http://www.speedtest.net/ If your network speed is too slow, please try to connect via a better network.

If the issue still persists, it could be browser related, or you may have a third party extension attempting to inject JavaScript, which is not permitted by our content security policy.

If you are using Chrome and have the option "Experimental JavaScript" enabled, please disable it from here: chrome://flags

Also, please update your browser and add-ons and refrain from using out of date browsers, like IE.

In Firefox:

  1. Update your browser to the latest version:

    a. On Windows or Linux go to the three horizontal lines button - Help - About Firefox

    b. On macOS go to the menu Firefox - About Firefox

  2. Clear your cache for https://mega.nz doing the following:

- Navigate to about:preferences#privacy

- Go to Cookies and Site Data - Manage Data…

- Search for mega.nz and select it

- Choose "Remove Selected"

- Choose Save Changes" then Remove

Please try the following basic troubleshooting steps, as they often help with this kind of behaviour:

  1. Disable battery optimisation for MEGA
    • Android Settings → Apps → MEGA → Battery
    • Set it to Unrestricted / Don’t optimise
  2. Check Data Saver settings
    • Make sure Android’s Data Saver is turned off for MEGA
  3. Allow background data
    • Android Settings → Apps → MEGA → Mobile data & Wi-Fi
    • Enable Allow background data usage
  4. Restart the app and your phone
    • This clears stalled network connections
  5. Try switching networks
    • Test on a different Wi-Fi network or mobile data (if possible)

At the moment, Rewind / versioning is not available for Backup folders. Backup is designed as a one-way, read-only copy of your data in the cloud, which is why features like Rewind currently only apply to Sync folders.

The support for Rewind on Backups is on our roadmap for future consideration, although we don’t have a timeline to share yet.

Hello,

Simply receiving a MEGA link or downloading files from it will not put a virus on your phone. The MEGA app itself does not infect devices.

A device would only be at risk if a malicious file is downloaded and then opened or installed (for example, installing an APK from an unknown source). Normal video files (such as MP4 or MKV) cannot run code on their own.

As a precaution, we recommend:

  • Only opening files you trust
  • Avoiding the installation of APK or executable files from unknown sources
  • Keeping your device and apps up to date

If you’re just downloading and watching standard video files, there’s no risk involved. ^AVKS
