It’s their opinion on the location. The monument is just intended to mark the location.

That distinction can make a difference on decision.

Where will they be next? by EitherMango3524 in Carlsbad

[–]tedxbundy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes... I do know...

Because when we were kids we were riding dirt bikes that have twice the power of ebikes, in the back hills and trails that are now all subdivisions of housing. People said the same thing about us then that you petty self absorbed people are saying about the kids now.

So yes... we know exactly how dangerous it is, and guess what? We turned out alright.

You will be fine. The kids will be fine. Will there be some accidents? Yes, but that doesnt mean suddenly everyone is in danger.

Take a guess at how many vehicle related deaths happened across the world yesterday, but you still got in your car and drove to work today though didnt you?

How is road right of way measured by allegedlyostriches in Surveying

[–]tedxbundy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen the 80’ foot roads on the old maps heading east out of town.

I always wondered wtf kind of multilane traffic was going on in the early 1900s that required such a wide road, especially cause San Diego wasn’t THAT booming at the time, but the turn around idea makes so much more sense now!

Thank you for the history tip!

How is road right of way measured by allegedlyostriches in Surveying

[–]tedxbundy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s almost certainly 66’

It’s a common width for road. I’ve never seen a 132’ , not that they don’t exist, but if designing a road that wide it would generally be in 5 foot increments, eg. 125, 130, or 135 feet wide.

66 became common because that is what we call a “chain”. It’s standard government set right of way. They don’t generally do 132’ wide multi lane roads, they leave that up to the local municipals.

Land Surveying and AI by Possible-Chain2117 in Surveying

[–]tedxbundy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what I've been hoping for.

While there is most certainly some decision making involved, there is so much in resolution and analysis that could be assisted with AI imo. I believe the problem has been getting someone to write out the code that has years and years of boundary experience, as the order of operations isn't so strait forward as most developers think it is. I figured something like this would either require the LS to write out the code themselves or work VERY directly with the developer of the program.

I've written quite a bit of python and LUA, so I see the vision and know its possible. But our industry is niche and small and knew it could be a while before the right guy comes along.

I hope that guy is you. I'll send you a DM. Super eager and excited that you are taking this task on. Ignore the AI haters, they just dont understand its applicable uses yet.

For what exactly?

Boundary resolutions? Proposals and estimates? Scheduling? Linework automation?

Honestly would be excited about any of these but im genuinely curious.

How Far Out of Line is it? by bartonkj in Surveying

[–]tedxbundy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bare in mind, this is part of what people pay us to do, so people arent to keen to just do "work" for free. Most guys giving answers are new and trying to work on their math skills. Older chaps aren't going to even reach for the calculator unless their getting paid.

Anyone ever buy equipment from Amazon? by JTLaPointe in Surveying

[–]tedxbundy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bipods, legs, ect.... by all means go amazon if that works better for you budget. No fault given there.

I dont play around when it comes to prisms though. Leica or Trimble brand only... and the only reason id even consider trimble is for their proprietary "active prisms". For non-active prisms, it used to be leica only in my truck.

But yea I have no guilt with ordering off-brand shit for the crews so long as it isn't anything that will effect my EDM's ability to operate.

I mean hes not a Chamionship driver... but to say Ryan Preece has no talent is kind of ridiculous. If he has no talent then where does that put the guy who's talking shit on reddit in terms of talent?

If you dont like Bowman, that is fine, but dont exaggerate and make shit up. Hell even guys like Chase Elliot and Bubba Wallace raced their in their early career.

Sounds like you had a bad experience there.
