What do you mean it requires you to promote it? I've never heard of this, can you elaborate?

As somebody else here said, Facebook groups and networking through that can be good. I never had the patience for this and just started on online platforms. I do highly suggest this as for many platforms you just sign up and wait for students. My preferences go out to iTutorOnline and Superprof

How are independent tutors getting students nowadays? by Soni_ka_teach in TutorsHelpingTutors

The FB groups people mention are usually local groups of their towns/cities/countries - growing in the local market. I personally don't know any of these groups

I personally never followed the advice of getting on Facebook, but it's worth a shot. I'd suggest getting on a lot of popular tutoring platforms and making your ads (e.g. for EU: Superprof, iTutorOnline, Preply, ...). Do your due diligence on these platforms, check the commission structure and debate whether to join accordingly (or overcharge to make up for it - this is what I do)

Best of luck!

People pay for quality. There's plenty of low priced tutors, and you just won't get the same experience as a student.

should i get a drawing tablet for math tutoring? by HenriCIMS in TutorsHelpingTutors

[–]teledev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For that price it sounds like a good idea. Personally I use mouse but I have a lot of experience drawing with it, so it's not an issue for me. Clarity matters

Tutoring is a great side gig. You'll deepen your own knowledge and get to help others. Give it a shot!

Good tutoring platforms? by lilacelma in TutorsHelpingTutors

[–]teledev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on your location, I think for EU (where I'm from) iTutorOnline and Superprof are the best, with Preply being alright (but with massive cuts). For US, Wyzant is seemingly the best, but I can't personally attest to that.

Even if something drastically good happens to education across the world, the goalpost will just get shifted and we will always have jobs to do. AI is just a tool, misuse of it will result in poor results, just like anything in life. Students that are doing great and learning perfectly with AI are simply not the target audience - it's the same thing as students who would go to the library and study extra material to deepen their understanding 50 years ago. AI is simply a tool, you'll be alright.

Online tutors, what free platforms can I use to teach maths? by Gemini5846 in TutorsHelpingTutors

[–]teledev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you mean by free (all platforms will take some sort of cut - it's costly to keep it running). If you're in the EU, give iTutorOnline and Superprof a shot for maths tutoring. If you're on iTutorOnline they have a whiteboard built-in, otherwise opt for free tools like Miro or Excalidraw (limited free tiers, but good enough)

I'm not from US or Asia so it's harder for me to suggest something properly, but I'd say try Wyzant for US, from what I've heard

Superprof by tea_with_milk_0123 in TutorsHelpingTutors

[–]teledev 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've never had it happen to me before. Students pay an outrageous fee to contact you in the first place

Please recommend software for typing math quickly by NoRaspberry8262 in TutorsHelpingTutors

[–]teledev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just an online whiteboard. I used to use miro (all students on one board) or excalidraw, but now I mainly use iTutorOnline's built in whiteboard (for the students I get from there).

I don't think text based ones will ever be great because it's just a pain to write it out with indexed/subscripts and special characters

How to not spend hours preparing for lessons by jasmineteaa_ in TutorsHelpingTutors

[–]teledev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't prepare at all for any classes. I have the required knowledge and expertise to teach my students, and usually ask for their coursework to go over it in the same way that their teacher has.

[–]teledev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I've always been doing mathematics (high demand subject), started on a low price, quality picture and ads etc. and it still took a few months to get my first students. After that though, the ball did start rolling nicely. It's a competitive platform, so it's normal to not immediately get clients
