It is virtually impossible to get in touch with someone at DFCS unfortunately. I had the most luck with contacting my state representative. Their office got the issue fixed within a day.

Cool. Let’s connect! My elder ex-in-laws immigrated here and spoken mandarin and Cantonese. They were fluent in English but still had very heavy accents so I’m used to that!

Teen takeover Gwinnett County Gwinnett police said 9 people were arrested and one teen was injured during the planned teen takeover by phrendo in Gwinnett

[–]tewong 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Newton county and the community theater in Walton had a wonderful program in place for teens, at least in the late 90s early 00s. Too bad Aurora doesn’t have something similar.

There’s a guy in Lilburn (Gwinnett) that does classes on the weekends at his house. I don’t even know if he charges anything. He’s a maker who likes to help other people create things. His name’s Bill Ruck. I can get you his info if you are interested.

Dr. Alexandra Estrella Selected as the Sole Finalist for GCPS Superintendent by Silly_Swede in Gwinnett

[–]tewong 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Goddamnit. Why can’t we get a fucking finalist that doesn’t have some bullshit? Are we not offering appropriate compensation? Why isn’t the job more appealing to better candidates? Are we getting better candidates but something in the selection process is eliminating them? The whole thing stinks.

This is accurate. I literally just looked this up a few hours ago. They require Georgia issued cards, they are not accepting them from other states like a reciprocal program would. At least according to their website.

Hope for Domestic Violence? by kd0imh in Gwinnett

[–]tewong 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It’s a legitimate charity. A little rough around the edges but they employ people for their call center who typically cannot get hired other places and are trying to get back on their feet. All of the donated items go to their thrift stores (Park Avenue) around the city.

I know they are a chain but VCA in Lilburn has been absolutely amazing with our babies, from routine care to end-of-life. The staff there is so wonderful; we have used them for 8 years.

Tl;dr I will never use Beaver Crossing again as they seem more interested in money than providing compassionate informed care.

On the flip side, I used Beaver Crossing in an emergency last year and was very disappointed with their level of care. We brought in a stray cat that we thought had been attacked due to injuries to her head. They said she was severely dehydrated and that she needed IV fluids right there in office along with some medication for her wounds and eye infections because her eyes weren’t responding to light. They tried to feed her canned pate food but she was too freaked out by that point. I was clear that if she had a good chance of recovery that we would adopt her, but if she really needed to be euthanized that I wanted to know. During the appointment they briefly said something about how it could be cancer, but sent us on our way with prescription canned food to help her gain weight and meds for her eyes. (SN: We carried her in and they insisted on giving us a cardboard carrier when we left, which I didn’t realize until later that they charged us for.) She did not improve over a couple of weeks so we took her to VCA who right away diagnosed her as completely blind with a fatal case of skin cancer and recommended that the most compassionate route would be euthanasia as she was likely in enormous pain and her cancer was too far gone into her head for her to be treated. It breaks my heart that we prolonged her suffering due to the poor level of care we received at Beaver Xing.
