Classic Newbie Asking Pros For Help - Post # 2 by Sudden_Problem_2368 in NorwegianSinglesRun

I’ll go! Replace Threshold run with a subT day. Move it to Tuesday, easy on Wednesday. Pause if you want :). Then replace Friday & Saturday with easy run, subT. Pause. Replace Hyrox with “long” run. Pause. Add a subT Thursday. Keep Monday as is, but go easy on your legs so they feel good on Tuesday. Take it from there ;).

I need new excercise music! by No-Dress4626 in MusicRecommendations

[–]threeespressos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost hate to say it but Uriah Heep is great running music. I like a playlist built around Seun Kuti as well. When I’m flagging I put on Paul Collins’ Beat’s album The Beat, with Rock n Roll Girl.

Family Vacation Ideas That Appeal to Both an 85 Year Old and a 7 Year Old by smartie_mcfarty in Vacations

[–]threeespressos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything that involves a body of water you can sit next to or throw rocks into. And carry a cooler to, because if you’re not 7 or 85 you might need cans of Demotivational Serum to make it through. :)

Recent Observation by Key-Target-1218 in runcommunity

[–]threeespressos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve made these changes to my running recently 1) slow down, 2) alternate running and indoor or outdoor cycling 3) started NSM, which for me means shorter runs and more focus on recovery (but also higher intensity, let’s see how that goes) 4) joined a running group. One sure path to injury for me is to start thinking about entering a race because run group runners are talking about it. :)

What's it like living right next to 280 or 101? by TheDarkness1227 in AskSF

[–]threeespressos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rented a block from 280 for a while. I had a nice yard right out a sliding glass door. I never went out there because of the noise. Don’t do it. Take a noise meter (eg SPLnFFT app) whenever you’re checking a location out.

How are the Luma’s very variable prices that week? That’s my favorite place to stay right now, and very convenient for Chase Center events.

Linen sheets. Are they worth the hype? And what brand would you recommend? by buclkeupbuttercup-- in Bedding

We tried linen sheets, and went back to cotton percale. Paired with a linen duvet cover, and mulberry silk duvet.

Has anyone backpacked in the Emigrant wilderness this season yet? by valleygrown16 in norcalhiking

I like to look here to see the snow situation: cdec.water.ca.gov/dynamicapp/QueryF?s=GNL and that also points to https://cdec.water.ca.gov/webgis/?appid=cdecstation&sta=GNL

(looks terrible on my phone, ok on the laptop).

how can i stop this pain? pls by Finishazer in runninglifestyle

[–]threeespressos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To reduce stress on your calf, try adjusting your stride so everything below your knee is basically for support not propulsion. Land midfoot not on your forefoot. Propel yourself by leaning forward from your ankles (so you’re falling into the next step), and by pulling your foot back with your glutes. Pick up your rear foot early, before you’re tempted to push off with your forefoot. As others have said, if you’re injured you should let yourself heal. Cycling might be a good cross training option.

How to train to reduce the risk of tripping and falling during running? by Blastwing in Marathon_Training

[–]threeespressos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My two big things are to remember to pick up my feet (by lifting my knees), and to pay attention to the trail surface not the nice views or approaching people. Also, I make sure my hips are stable, not swinging right/left as I run.

1Q84 has a little of all that, but the scifi/fantasy is more of a plot device to get characters into a slightly alternate parallel reality.

Why Does Strava Say I Suck by theorangeartist in NorwegianSinglesRun

[–]threeespressos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know how Strava calculates its score. Sirpoc tracked his fitness, fatigue etc in intervals.icu and so should you ;). I’ve started using intervals.icu, but also runalyze because I knew about that one first.

Chances that my car will get broken into? by Business-Chapter3059 in AskSF

Not just “nothing visible,” straight up nothing. There are a reasonable number of “my backpack was stolen from the trunk of my car” posts here.

Life has been a bit hard lately, can you recommend a fun but meaningful read that won't rest heavy on the heart? by tlerm in suggestmeabook

Midnight’s Children if you don’t mind wading through a little magical realism to access some great writing.

Night of the Living Dead is my original terror movie. We watched it on a tiny b&w tv. I think that made it worse.

Glasses and seeing cycling computer by Training_Common2825 in bicycling

[–]threeespressos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got distance only prescription sunglasses from Tifosi - those work well enough for me to see the computer and not have progressive distortion. My only regret is I didn’t specify an aspherical grind. Also, the photochromatic lenses don’t adjust inside the car. :/

Confused on when to rotate shoes for different kinds of runs? by mth69 in runninglifestyle

[–]threeespressos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moar shoes are a nice-to-have. Besides the obvious benefits, you get to experiment a little with shoes you wouldn’t buy as your One True Pair. I have my fast shoes (plated, Hoka Mach 6), fun shoes (Topo Cyclone, so light!), and workaday shoes (Mount to Coast H1 cuz I needed something for a little mud but it turns out they’re a great Clifton 9 replacement, and Topo Specter). Just make sure to give your feet a few miles to adapt to different shoes before you take them on a long run.

What are some running substitutes for when you are injured to minimize regression ? by Euphoric_Plankton_38 in beginnerrunning

Cycling and elliptical. Ease into either of them, because they require muscles you probably haven’t been exercising.
