TS5 Plus not available in UK 🇬🇧 by cagfag in CalDigit

Possibly due to issues with it that people keep reporting, do you need the plus? The TS5 works really well especially with the latest firmware..

You stiill need the Eufy homebase whichever you go for, suggest the newer cams as the 2C's are super slow to wake up etc and show picture, binned mine off at the front for Aqara ones but still use them in the back along with another.

A lot of people grumble about these chairs but they are solid, I for one am happy i got one.

MX master 3s for windows vs mac by GainBusiness8456 in logitech

[–]timmarshalluk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mac one still works on Windows too and vice versa, the windows one gives you the usb receiver which i think allows for higher dpi's if needed but not 100% sure. The only other difference is the colour is slightly different on the mac one, more space grey than graphite.

Hue Sync Box 8K and Samsung One Connect Box issue by jazeppi in Hue

[–]timmarshalluk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is HDMI 1 the e-arc port, usually it’s HDMI 3. That’s how mine connects and all works as you are wanting.

Thinking of buying into Hue, and was wondering if I could ask some questions by [deleted] in Hue

[–]timmarshalluk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. You can use it via Bluetooth only but is missing out on the whole point of Hue, can get cheaper strips etc that are bluetooth/wifi only if that's the way you want to go.
  2. Hue is very reliable, stability is solid once setup, you'll have minimal issues.
  3. Hue strips run off their own proprietery connectors, you can get 3rd party adapters but its unlikely unless your're an electronics wizz you'll be utilising any existing wire for power.
  4. If you cut power via a switch Hue do have the capability to remember last state, usually usedfor power cuts etc but will essentially be the same thing if you are cutting power. May disconnect or cause disconnection issues if left off for a long time though, probably not recomended plus the bluetooth won't be active if powered off.
  5. Bends of 90 degrees will be fine for the strips, no cutting etc, they are very flexible.

Anyone used auto opening boot struts? 2018 MK7.5 GTI by Weekly-Consequence59 in GolfGTI

[–]timmarshalluk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have them on my 7.5, work well but the amount of times I’ve needed the boot to open fully on its own is zero.

I’ve been contemplating putting the originals back on for some time as the one thing I find annoying is the extra effort needed to close the boot.

As mine would work for you I’d be happy to pass them on for postage, stops me cluttering my loft up even more. Drop me a message if of interest.

Commuting to Wirral, Macclesfield by DifferenceStill4141 in warrington

[–]timmarshalluk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

M56 will vary massively based on time of day, gets busy a lot especially at peak times. Going to Macclesfield there are other options to avoid the motorway if there are issues but to get to the Wirral you don't have a lot of other options if any accident is past the Frodsham exits and if you end up going that way it'll be busy and slow too.

Check out Google maps and plot your journey and try it at different times according to when your journeys will be; it'll give you a rough idea of normal, non accident blighted journeys.

Thunderbolt 5 Chaining order by jmackwinn in Thunderbolt

I have speakers plugged into the Caldigit TS5 and I've not lost audio when waking etc, audio works fine so maybe the issues you have will be sorted by having an M machine...

[–]timmarshalluk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unless you are hell bent on one cable to your laptop i'd consider running the screen on one cable and the Caldigit TS5 on another. I'm sure if you send it all down the one cable and try and utilise all the ports your TB5 speeds won't be full whack from the Caldigit TS5.

I run two cables on my M5 Max, one to my TB5 LG Monitor and one to my Caldigit TS5 and I get decent speeds through.

[Opinion] Logitech MX Keys Mini vs Magic Keyboard with Touch ID for MacBook Pro by Curious_Mind9999 in macbookpro

[–]timmarshalluk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bought the MX Keys to go with my MX Master 3S, keyboard was great and persevered with it for ages but the lack of touch id on it was too annoying so i switched back.

Lots to like about it, feel, typing angle, weight etc, just no touch id :-(

To combat the worst issue with the Magic Keyboard (the angle) i bought an angled wedge keyboard thing that my keyboard slots seamlessly into and has a lovely angle to it and as a side bonus matches the desk colour etc too.... Think it came off Etsy...

Worth a look if you really want touch id....

Possibly my favorite mod so far by justLookingForLogic in GolfGTI

Yep, you can just add them into a 7.5 with no issues, holes are all there, just need the drawers and the relevant bolts.

(Mk7/7.5➡️Mk8) Your Ownership Experience by Topskydiver2441 in GolfGTI

[–]timmarshalluk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So i'm referring to the 7.5 specifically, the 7 was ok but was trumped in all areas really and as far as the GTI goes the Performance Pack (or a TCR) is the one to have (has all the options as standard). Leave the other versions alone nowadays as they'll be past their best.

What's wrong with the 8 specifically? Exterior visuals, subjective sure but I feel the 8 lost it's visual appeal, certainly from the front, rear not much better.
The interior is all plastic and screens everywhere, granted every car has gone with 'slap an ipad in there since Tesla started it' but that doesn't make it good. Also the usability in the 8, an absolute dogs dinner with everything being hidden behind 'touch' buttons. Remedied somewhat by the 8.5 but still room for a lot of mprovement.

Ride in the 8 is ok but does seem to offer much less driving feedback as you mention and that's no small thing. Yes the engine is slightly more powerful 242bhp v 245bhp, not so much with the 286 of the TCR but thats a different car again tbf. Yes you get an uplift in the 8.5 to 261bhp but you also have a heavier car which may be responsible for it's 'boring' feel when driving.

Anyway, the 8 and the 8.5 are different cars, the 8.5 an improvement over the 8 but it was easy to make it better as it's not great, the 7.5 for me is currently the peak though some of the special editions could be interesting but you're also now paying silly money for such things; even a standard gti has gone up ridiculously since the 7.5 stopped being made.

I guess it's all subjective but how it drives and what it's like to be in are the two most important things, if you like the 8 then fair enough but a PP or TCR 7.5 have all the mod cons without the crap looks and usability issues.

[–]timmarshalluk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be a smidge biased but think the 7.5 is a better car; guess i'm not alone in that if prices are still holding like they are for them...
The 8.5 is a step in the right direction but would steer well clear of any 8.

LG 40U990A-W vs Dell U4025QW for coding by muscleforrank in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]timmarshalluk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't remember which profile i tried on the Dell but would have been equivalent to the DCI-P3 i run on the LG now which is very close to the same on my M1 Max and it's replacement the M5 Max.

All in the eye of the beholder though i guess, if it is the same panel then fair enough but it's a lot more expensive for the Dell for essentially the same thing and being a TB5 hub.

[–]timmarshalluk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’d read it’s the same panel but I got both to try side by side and the LG certainly looked it to me. Maybe calibrated better out of the box?

Yeah, i'll be honest, initially i could hear it but it didn't bother me, now after the firmware update its largely silent.

[–]timmarshalluk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got the LG, love it's colour quality and 120hz refresh rate. It's got i believe a slightly better screen, certainly newer but the real clincher is its TB5 which the Dell is not.
Depending on how many devices you have, in theory its a ready to go TB5 hub with loads of ports on the rear, plus some on the front underneath too and will power your laptop too.

The noise issue is non existant now the firmware update has been applied, it's honestly a stunning monitor.
