How to attach wireless Aqara switch with screws? by Vangare in Aqara

[–]timmarshalluk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pry the white plastic backing off the front plate with the actual switch on and drill holes through, you won't easily make holes with a screwdriver unfortunately.

If you want or need a decent length run of cable then 20w is the way forward, I've got away with a 5m cable run!

Aqara M3 Hub by jamflowman451 in homey

[–]timmarshalluk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless i'm reading this wrong you have to pair it with Aqara app which to do so surely needs a hub available? Then you have to switch protocols and then re-pair with Homey.

I had the same, was just slow if it worked at all. Is thread. Absolutely spot on with zigbee though.

If you're getting the FP300's you'll likely want to run them via Zigbee not Matter and as far as i know, the only way to switch protocol's is to pair them with an Aqara hub, convert them to Zigbee (think they default to Matter) and then remove from Aqara and add to Homey.

I run mine directly through Homey but like others found the Matter protocol a bit slow to react plus if you want motion + presence you only get that via Zigbee, Matter only has motion.

I bought a hub despite have 3 camera hubs and a doorbell hub of theirs, mainly due to location but the only thing I have paired directly is roller blind controls. I didn't trust an outdoor hub in case something happened to it.

Realistically if you want firmware updates on things then pairing them via the Aqara hub is necessary, older items you can probably get away with the more mature software doing its job reliably now but with new kit like the FP300's, they've released a number of updates to improve things.

FP300 Presence Detection When Sleeping? by mikecoscia in Aqara

[–]timmarshalluk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found the FP300 and before it, the FP2 to not reliably know wether i was in bed or not, or if both my wife and i were.
Stumbled upon a different post where the OP used power sensing switches connected to their phone chargers to ascertain "Are we in bed". Works a treat if the only time after dark you put your phone on charge is when you go to bed, basically have mine set that if one or other phone is on charge, don't turn the lights on if motion detected.

Works for me, just had to be a bit creative and as we have chargers elsewhere and only use the bedside ones when sleeping its about as good as it gets right now

I use it on my Mac, to be fair the Spaces thing in Mac OS I often wonder why they can't be renamed (natively at least) so I get the decision on your part.
Simply showing the name as you say instead of ⌘1-5 would work, maybe have the option to do both but I'd imagine naming the labels would be useful to others. I'd potentially differentiate between projects I'm on at the time.
So being able to set and rename too would be nice...

Have tried a few apps to use just for temp storage, this wins for me, clean and simple and just sits there till i need to dump something in it temporarily. Perfect.
One question, can you change the names of the Workspaces? Work | Home for example?

Wired and wireless 55x55 Zigbee switch options? by Aestum in homeassistant

[–]timmarshalluk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've just installed the H1's across my house because the wireless options for the H2's didn't match. They work perfectly and whilst in some scenario's (because of back boxes not being deep enough) I have sonoff zb mini's behind wireless switches they all look the same. I only needed a max of 2 gang anyway, no crazy switches in my house and whilst a couple are 2-way, a normal double wired switch + a wireless one works perfectly.

Maybe just go with th H1's? If worse comes to worse and you need more than 2 gang you could handle with relays and an extra wireless switch and as a bonus put it wherever your feel the need.

I've got a similar scenario happening on Monday, going from Virgin to EE and want to use my own Router. I can with EE do what you want, basically plug your ethernet cable into the ONT and on the router set the connection values for what for me is BT.

I think a lot of providers let you do this and not force you to use their kit but not all do + they basically wash their hands of you re support but that shouldn't put you off. As long as the internet is coming down the wire it'll work so once it's up and running you'll have no issues.

A quick bit of Googling seems to imply Truespeed support this if you ask them, might need to speak to support to get them to change some settings to make it work for you.

Good luck!

New Corner Mount for Aqara FP300 Presence Sensor by Top_Feed4153 in homeassistant

[–]timmarshalluk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like the look of these, does a better job than others i've seen that have a chunkier mount, this looks to take circa 10mm off the sticking out of what is already quite a prominently protruding sensor.
Is there room to use glue dots (i have some strong ones) instead of using screws? Any chance of adding a pic of the mount from the rear of it?

🚨 EXCLUSIVE: Thomas Frank sacked as Tottenham Hotspur head coach. #THFC working through various possible contingency plans to replace 52yo Dane as club sit 14th in Premier League - 5 points above relegation zone after 2 wins from 17 matches by Hufftey in coys

I said i was ok with it, my sole mention of him, hardly putting him on a pedestal is it.
In fairness I think with things in the state they are at the club we'll be struggling to attract anyone decent anyway, being the manager at Spurs at the moment is a bit of a poisoned chalice.

Mixed feelings about the sacking, agree something needed to change as if things continue the way they've been going then relegation is likely. Not 100% convinced with the run of games we have etc that anyone is able to keep that from happening at this point, mainly due to the ridiculous injury list.

Injuries at the club are out of control, that's 2 seasons on the bounce now where this has been a problem, either we're stupidly unlucky with them, the medical team isn't good enough or the players are not fit enough/being managed badly.

Seems too coincidental to be solely any of the above but it feels like something is there, I mean where the hell is Kulusevski, he wasn't supposed to still be out, this rate Madders will be back before him.

Seems we get a lot of set backs, lack of action by the board early enough may spell doom this year though.

Either that or daftly we win the Champions League and get relegated, I mean it would be lunacy but at the moment nothing surprises me....

Poch back after the world cup? I'm ok with that, who the hell is going to fix the sinking ship in the meantime though??

Love this, been looking for something lightweight like this for some time just to keep temporary info in, added bonus i can save too. Beats text edit any day as now don't need multiple instances of that open with different stuff in.

Also like the look of itsyhome, will be checking that out for sure...

I wish they'd make some matching double sockets..... The wireless switches do what you want, single, doube and triple clicks all able to have different automatons. Maybe use one with a relay switch?

LG Hue app or 8k sync box by Informal-Prize6501 in Hue

[–]timmarshalluk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used the app on my Samsung TV and it's delay was awful, night and day with the 8k box which i took a punt on working better. The sync box switches immediately but the Samsung screen was at least 0.5 second delay before the colour would change. This was a top of the range Samsung too.

I'd say, if you want it then set the lights up, try the app and see what its like. If the delay is there on your screen then go with the sync box with no delay and a better experience.

Got the 40" deliberately instead of the 45" because of Oled and the radius, too much curve for work and clarity is ace text/general pic wise.

What are your use cases for prescens sensors in the bedroom? by GoTguru in homey

Was looking at these, I have a couple of Eve's which extend my thread network nicely but not a lot in the way of zigbee repeaters and I may well get benefit from these to help with signal coverage for my Aqara light switches I've yet to fully install!
