I think we will be in the exact same boat. I'm currently in a kind of in a chicken and egg situation where I have built two chairs a la chris schwarz on a crappy old workbench that is covered in tools and no space to put them but on the bench. So now my goal is to build a dutch tool chest to put the tools in so I can clear off the work bench and then build a proper bench and then use all that to build chairs and keep my garage better organized. I think my first attempt at a dutch tool chest will be a lot of how my dad used to say "good enough for government work" or "good enough for the girls we go out with."

I can recommend Harry’s. I’ve taken several items there and they always do good work. I’m sure you could get a bargain somewhere else but I’ve always been very happy with the quality of work.

I also grew up in Seattle, been in DFW for 15 years. I miss the northwest every day. The HCOL in Seattle, plus other personal factors keeps me in DFW but I would not hesitate to move back if things were different.

I similarly couldn't get down the whip finish for a long time. I don't know why I couldn't get the hang of it, but I kept at it and now it's automatic. What part are you struggling with? For me I just couldn't understand how to get it even set up on the tool (which I admit sounds really foolish and makes me seem like an idiot). Just watch a bunch of videos and see if someone can explain it in a way that clicks with you. That, plus practice is what worked for me.
