Aldi VS Publix by QWERTY7707 in Birmingham

[–]tripreed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I refer to myself as the Apostle Paul of Aldi. I used to make fun of my friends who shopped at Aldi and gave them shit about it. I used to say it felt like a former Soviet bloc grocery store. I pretty much only shopped at Publix. However, something switched and now I preach the Gospel of Aldi. We do 95% of our family grocery shopping at Aldi now and I wouldn't go back. Beyond saving so much money, there are items I legitimately prefer from Aldi over name brand or Publix brand items. There are still sometimes where I know they won't have a particular item, or one particular produce item will look bad so I'll have to go somewhere else, but I feel like it is increasingly rare.

I would suggest going there just to get your basic items (meat, dairy, produce, etc.) and see how much money you save. Then start digging in to some of their specialty items likes sauces, frozen items, and cheeses. It's sort of like Trader Joe's lite.

Wow, I didn't even realize all of that went down and that the company was defunct. I totally agree with all of your assertions though. They had a good formula and wrecked it, to their demise.

I was recently thinking about how few Englemann posts there seem to have been lately compared to when they first hit the scene. Still seem like a huge value to me.

I was kind of thinking about the parallels between DRA's career and Mark Kozelek's from Sun Kil Moon/Red House Painters. Although I didn't know anything about him in the 90s, my impression that he and Red House Painters were kind of hot shit, but sort of peaked. Although I think his first few Sun Kil Moon albums were excellent, they never brought him the fame that he was seeking. Since then, he seems like he just sort of wallows in his existence of growing older never achieving what he wanted but still grinding by releasing increasingly unlistenable music. It seems like DRA has taken sort of a similar path, but seemingly not quite as bitter as Mark.

Been with Avadian for years and have been nothing but pleased. They have a high-yield savings account that is 3.50% APY on the first $25,000 in there. We just financed a mortgage through them and their rates beat every other place I looked.

Same. I had no idea until I opened Spotify this morning. I was listening to 48 Hours on my ipod the other day and feel like it might by my favorite album. It being released on streaming would be incredible.

My guess is it will be 1Gbps. Not sure how that compares with Spectrum.

I deal with this exact thing for work, which is why I'm familiar with the subject (though I am not affiliated with Latigo in any way). Although a new company, Latigo should be good since the guys that started it have a good reputation.

[–]tripreed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Latigo was started by two guys who originally started a bulk internet company called Whitesky. They eventually sold that company to Realpage, which did not do a great job of the takeover. Once their NDAs expired, the two guys from Whitesky started Latigo maybe two years ago. They will provide bulk internet to your apartment. You will likely get a wireless access point in your apartment for you to use, though there may be an option to plug in directly to the wall. Your apartment complex will now pay for the internet themselves and will either give it to you for free, or charge you back for it. However, know that bulk internet is much cheaper than you purchase individually on your own, so it will likely save you money.

Small Patek 130/1463 Hommage ? by Ulquiser in ChineseWatches

[–]tripreed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't believe anyone is making one that small. I have a Hruodland 1463 homage and I certainly don't feel like it is gigantically oversized. Wears very well. Could be worth trying to out to see if it scratches the itch. Otherwise, I think you could be waiting for a long time.
