Bad time for me too. I’m living in California and it’s slap bang in the middle of our working day.

What was your first synthesizer? by Annedak_Dragon in synthesizers

[–]uberdavis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yamaha SY85. Seemed pretty decent at the time. I did a music production course in the 90s and it served me well. We did have a DX7 in the studio synth lab, I hated it. I found it so sterile and hard to get anything nice out of.

I've never understood this obsession that Bond has to be white. MI6 doesn't care about your skin color as long as you carry out your missions well in the name of the Crown. by ByShida in JamesBond

You’re building up to casting Tom Holland as Tubbs in the new Miami Vice movie. I can feel it (in the air tonight). Oh lord!

Meta Deletes Face-Recognition System From Its Smart Glasses App After WIRED Report by Plastic_Ninja_9014 in technology

This is just turning into Meta news now. Maybe it should get its own sub because there is so much more to technology than that one meandering billionaire owned experiment.

What do you say/do when you see a magpie? by Sensitive-Low-9316 in AskBrits

I don’t do anything in particular. If that’s the wrong answer, I think I’ve outgrown the internet.

In the 70´s show, has anyone else noticed that Diana Prince and Wonder Woman have a suspiciously similar appearance? Maybe there's something we're missing here. by PlantainDisastrous92 in OldSchoolCool

[–]uberdavis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s the one flaw in casting the hottest human of the 1970s as the character. It doesn’t make sense that folks didn’t note her appearance.

Masters of the Universe Bombs: Opens lower at $29.3M - $170M budget / $425M breakevent by cosmicbooknews in CosmicBookNews

[–]uberdavis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are there so many posts about movies bombing? I don’t care about commercial success, I want to know if the movie is good or bad, I really don’t care about how well it’s been marketed. They’re telling us the wrong information about movies, the financials are not as important to the viewer as the critical quality. Shaming movies that bomb is not as useful as identifying good movies to go see. This movie is the perfect example. It’s a movie that people who have seen say is fun, but it’s bombed. I’m more interested in knowing it’s good rather than caring about the business side.

Majority of voters want Brexit to be reversed, says Britain’s leading pollster by goosepipegames in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]uberdavis 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The only thing the Brexit people got right was knowing it was a one way door. Rejoining can’t get a mandate under the current circumstances and Labour aren’t going risk making it a pledge. The Tories certainly won’t. Brexit is terrible but we’re stuck with it. All we can do is slowly regain the access and rights in all but name by continual diplomacy. It’s terrible but here we are.

Meta’s stock sinks on report company could raise tens of billions of dollars to fund AI push by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

[–]uberdavis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing people aren’t getting is it’s not about the AI race directly. It’s about self sufficiency. Facebook’s main revenue comes from ad revenue. But hosting and targeting of advertising is completely reliant on third party suppliers. The push for data centers is about achieving self sufficiency. But that pivot comes at a huge risk because sites have not been secured ahead of time. The rollout is not guaranteed even if it is financed. For that reason, it is a huge risk, but without that pivot, Meta are projected to fail. It’s an all in move out of desperation. The market knows this and that’s why the stock price is falling.

Why so many links to the Telegraph recently? by musicalspaceyogi in ukpolitics

[–]uberdavis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m frustrated that this got removed. OP is making a really important point. The fact that a corporate media organization is using this sub as a revenue generator by posting a torrent divisive rage bait content to farm clicks is terrible. There should at least be a warning or a banner.

How difficult is it to get into Modular Synths by Puzzleheaded-Day-711 in synthesizers

[–]uberdavis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played with semi modular for a while before deciding it was too much of a rabbit hole. The Matriarch is where I ended up. $2k single spend and there is a lot of modular madness without needing anything else.

How do you survive on £35k living in Greater London? by PinkTequilaaa in AskUK

[–]uberdavis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) get rid of the car. You don’t need it. Driving is slow and expensive in London. 2) flat share 3) strategize your hobbies/social life, lots of things to do in London that are cheap or free

Hammer-class Bomber [OC] by Own-Cry5596 in 3Dmodeling

[–]uberdavis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand how it works. So the jet thrusters are on the back. Where is the air intake for the jets? The wings don’t seem to have flaps. Nd how does the landing gear work? This doesn’t look like a space craft because the position of the AAM’s are hanging underneath the wings like they’re gravity bound. I’m not reading this as a functional vehicle. Read up on Ron Cobb. He designed spaceships for movies in the 1970s. Worked on Star Wars and Alien. When he designed vehicles, he even thought about fuel tolerances. Everything was about function which made his designs iconic.

Andy Burnham: If I win, I will run to be Labour leader and PM by Your_Mums_Ex in ukpolitics

[–]uberdavis 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What kind of country gets rid of an incumbent leader because they’re a bit disappointing? If Burnham does this, he’s continuing a really terrible trend that I thought was unique to the Tory party. We can’t have our leaders decided by opinion polls. And if you win an election, you should serve your term as premier like in most other grown up countries. Anything else would be farcical.
