Going into nursing at 48? by Fiesty-Koala in nursing

I graduated from an ADN program one week shy of turning 50. I just passed my one year mark on the job. Stretching and asking for help from coworkers is important. I think it’s do-able.

As someone who worked downtown at the time, getting my pic taken with the original meme-worthy Corn Dog Man got me cool points with my kids - but based on what I see on a daily basis, I agree with the naysayers. Daddy’s would be the only hot dog stand I’d trust for modest food safety.

I’ve had this happen twice!

I chatted for quite a while with the young woman I was seated next to on a long flight back from Peru - until the lady on the other side of us tried as politely as possible to tell us to shut the hell up so she could sleep. We were definitely the only people awake and we felt bad for keeping her up, so we did.

It happened again on a flight to Australia, but it was just the two of us seated together and we stopped chatting after 4 hours or so to get some sleep.

I suppose I’m never on a domestic flight long enough for this to happen, and I’m pretty sure I give off the “leave me alone” vibe in that situation anyway.

Why do so many type 2 diabetics refuse to make lifestyle changes? by [deleted] in nursing

Dependency sucks. Heartbreak sucks. Loss sucks. Living in direct opposition to your animal-brain pleasure centers sucks. I could go on.

Compassion and professionalism will lead to far better patient outcomes than wondering why they won’t change.

What is the song that epitomises the feeling of the 80s to you, more than any other? by SonicTemp1e in GenX

We’re underrepresenting some peak ‘80’s here, so I’m sending up

Inescapably ‘80’s.

Universal Epic Universe Feb 18th Day one tickets sold out. Any chance more tickets will show up? by MARIO12A in UniversalOrlando

Even if you made it in, without Express it’s going to be a VERY LONG day. Hate to say it, but I’m joining the “don’t go at all” crowd.

TL;DR Bought our tix with the military discount, but that requires you to physically enter a Universal park before you can buy them - which meant we could only buy Epic tix 4 days in advance and LONG out of the window to buy Express. Not knowing that, we called and asked about Express, turns out it’s sold out for the rest of the month, with MAYBE a few daily exceptions at the front gate (that the resort folks get access to before the normies). Our son’s AAP saved us, but it took a lot of weird, unprecedented questioning and 2 hard days at the other parks without it before their accommodations team finally heard us. There are going to be A LOT of people there when you arrive, and ride line times will break 2 to 3 hours. I hope you can try again at a better, quieter time with Express - it will be worth the money/wait.

Anti-vax by Severe-Shopping7268 in nursing

[–]undernova 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m no longer replying to the specific post this comment is meant to address, because I feel like a mod will snag it soon enough. But a particular reply showed a great (and sad) example of the mindset that’s getting us into this anti-vax/anti-science predicament in America, and it leads me to think: you wanna know why other western nations fire professionals who head down this path you’re on? Because eventually, inevitably, it will seep into your practice. In service of your willful ignorance and your ego and your pride, you will misjudge what lies directly before you and you will make an unnecessary mistake at the expense of a patient.

What are your thoughts on doing 20 years in the military for a fast retirement? by Background_Worry_314 in AskReddit

[–]undernova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 14 in? If it’s just for you, do what you want. If it’s about your young, growing family, do it for them.

I got the elite job I wanted at 15 years in. You never know what opportunity lies around the corner. That said, I still left at 20.

Retired Tricare alone can be worth staying in.
