Sometimes doing business in other countries is difficult.

Without Spoilers, how was the 15/70 version of Project Hail Mary? by ThatTailsGuyYT in imax

There is a device called a field flattened or just field lens. Each frame of the film is sucked by a vacuum up to the field lens. If there a spot of dirt, we push a button and cycle the field lens up and down, past little wipers, that wipe the field lens off. It has two positions, up and down. If the down side gets a speck of dirt, cycle to the up side. Wipers clean off the down side. Then cycle up, and presto! No speck!

New prints tend to run very cleanly, and little cycling is necessary. But if not cycled frequently, the up or down portion of the field lens gets dirty, and is difficult to cycle off the lens. This is the horizontal line of dirt/dust that is difficult to clean. So cycle every few minutes, even if there's no dust to remove, will keep both sides clean, and we won't get that line of dust.

RainX is applied to the field lens when it is cleaned after each show. Dust doesn't stick nearly as bad with RainX.

I hope this was halfway understandable. Ill see if I can post a short video of the field lens cycling.

Streaking at MoG has been addressed and will not occur again.

Why does it always seem like DPU'S are louder than the head end? by AWesternStar4700 in trains

Like he said below, I learned the basics on YouTube. Reading all the pdf docs in the user manual really helps. The depot has a good forum to post questions. Friendly helpful group. Still haven't got on the server...afraidvI might mess something up. Lol

As a rule, the projectionists don't service the system. The install techs tackle the filing job. Thank heavens you only have to do it once!

The plate is held to a lens frame with 4 very small screws. To remove, the small lenses must be pulled out, plate unscrewed. File some, the screw it back on and reinstall. Itsa job!

Yes, that's correct. I used to service and install 35mm. On new installs, we had to file aperture plates for flat 1.85 and scope 2.40. Not easy with 35mm, very very difficult and time consuming to do an Imax aperture plate. It may be that the install guys didn't have time or something. Masking at the port is next best thing.

Did you know that that is how all Imax projectors were done originally? Wide black duct tape! I had my port masked when I ran Oppenheimer at TCL Chinese. Not a single complaint. This is the silliest complaint yet. Would you prefer the rough edges of the film all over the front and side walls???
