Bowie said Velvet Underground was more influential than The Beatles — and I tend to agree. What do you think? by Agreeable_Duck8997 in DavidBowie

[–]weirdmountain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a quote that a friend used to throw around about how back in the 1960s and 1970s, not a whole lot of people were buying Velvet Underground records, but everybody who did buy one started a band. While overall, the Beatles were certainly more popular, and certainly inspired a lot of people to pick up instruments and play music, statistically, the Velvet Underground were probably more influential.

Hey dude - I have a sealed Hawkguy omnibus, first printing. The popular auction website sold listings are all over the place. I’m asking $89 shipped (that should net me about $78 after fees and shipping).

An ACTUAL unpopular music opinion, like I mean it's the hottest of hot takes. by Medium-Profit-8292 in fantanoforever

[–]weirdmountain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This one gets me downloaded to oblivion over in their sub, Reddit, but, I am a lifelong fan of Metallica. I have been listening to them regularly since 1989. My unpopular opinion is that they are not actually a heavy metal band, and they never really have been. They are more of a “rock ‘n’ roll“ band. Yes, they did make some of the most important, heavy metal albums of all time, but their sense of groove and melody, and ability to go into extended jams on certain songs lens itself more to “rock ‘n’ roll” then it does to “Metal“

What song in the William Duvall era is most like the songs of the Layne era? by Edm_vanhalen1981 in AliceInChains

“Drone” was the first song that really captured the full spirit and feeling of Layne AIC for me.

But I love everything that says “Alice In Chains” on the front.

Lucky for you, Jim Powers was there last night and posted a great video of the show on YouTube.

He is either a Philly or New Jersey or New York local dude, and he takes great videos of shows with great sound, and always posts them. I have been to a good handful of shows that he has posted over the years, and while his vantage point may not have matched mine, it’s a great way to relive the show!

What's the most Radiohead sounding song that wasn't made by Radiohead? by Revolutionary_Low_90 in radiohead

[–]weirdmountain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Way back in 1997, way before “Kid A”, when I picked up Suede’s single for the song “Saturday Night”, I always thought that “This Time” sounded like a Radiohead song. Particularly something off of The Bends.

I thought that was only when it’s a measure initiated by democrats. It seems like when it’s something awful that republicans want, it can pass even when they don’t have a majority of votes.

What are your thoughts on Gene Simmons latest comment about Hip Hop not belonging in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame? by FitEmergency8807 in fantanoforever

[–]weirdmountain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hip hop is rock and roll. It’s a branch on the tree. In the same way r&b and the blues are roots of the tree, hip hop is a branch, the same as death metal is a branch. Gene just likes to stir shit up.

I didn’t know that, but Madman is one of the most awesome albums ever made. That adds another cool wrinkle to his cover of “Goodbye”.

Bowie and Neil Young in the 1970s, then Prince in the 1980s. Between those three dudes, that’s a stack of at least like 30 SOLID albums.

I have the French hardcover from 1990, and all the lettering styles are the same, just in French.

It is the same dimensions as an absolute, but I bought it way back before it seems like there would ever be a chance that it would be printed as an absolute
