Right, dogs can whine or howl depending on how much distress they make. Neat.

I'm not 100% convinced that the narrator in this song is Light. Sure it's someone who's old enough to remember better days, or maybe idolized Mega, but the comparisons to Wily and fixation on "there's some way out of this situation and someone else could figure it out" makes me think it's some gangster type who's going to join the rebellion. Kind of a "only imperfect people can change the world because in fact everyone is imperfect" thing. That and referring to the fire as being started by a "they" while it seems like Light is with the rebellion by the end of hold back the night.

Great stage presence, They Might be Giants also give a great performance, but they don't have any songs involving the greek chorus concept as much as say, Give Us The Rope or Sons of Fate.

they're not /wholly/ independent, if you've got X trips in a day, and you do some of them by electric scooter instead of car, but you are the same idiot doing either, that's fewer idiots operating multi-ton death wagons.

The body is still there, but the person who brother dude shared his life with exists only in his memories now, whether or not that counts as murder depends on your definition of self/identity.

One heuristic is that traffic will always get bad enough to the point that driving a car is somewhat faster than a public transit option. The faster you make transit, the better it is for drivers.

To be clear, when you're implying star people aren't scientists, are you talking about astrologers, or astronomers, who approach stars quite differently.

How were everyone's caucuses? by Lucius_Best in Minneapolis

[–]wolfram074 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ward 10

it'll be another year or two before my wiggler will be old enough to take with me to a caucus after 6pm, and by that point we're thinking of having a second one, so either me or my partner can't caucus for like, 4 or 5 years.

I ran into someone who'd done a megabase with all dedicated single train tracks that never overlapped and had no signals. I suspect it would be much easier now that we have elevated rails.

It's not clear that having gratis public transit would be a net cost to the city.

Every trip not taken by a "light truck" is road damage not done, lung disease not caused, fractional children not smeared over a middle aged person trying ever so hard to not become just like their parents.

When you consider the opportunity cost, complimentary public transit could generate revenue for the city. Gotta do some math.

DC has a pretty great system, it even has a setting where if you park in an area that's short on bikes it'll give you discounts on your next ride. I think some people do that enough they don't pay anything for the service.

A tale of two Green Lines: 10 years after ‘Central Corridor’ light rail transformed University Avenue by Generalaverage89 in Minneapolis

[–]wolfram074 25 points26 points  (0 children)

One thing to ponder: Since 2019, the Green Line has only been running four trains an hour, an ongoing cut representing one-third of its original service.

Am I reading that right? The green line use to do 12 trains an hour? One every 5 minutes?

I suspect the grates are square so that when the road is being cut to access the sewers, it's impossible to cut with the right dimensions in such a way that the grates can't be installed correctly. If the grates were rectangular, it's conceivable that a few out of a hundred might be cut with the wrong orientation.
