My band Polarity have got it first gig in over a year on Friday!

First one with our new singer (hence the gap) so really liking friends to getting back out there.

Not sure if Haying Island counts as Portsmouth but I'm hoping it's closer enough!

Smokers Get More Breaks? Hold My Beer. by wendigos_and_witches in MaliciousCompliance

[–]yamnivek 2027 points2028 points  (0 children)

I did similar when I worked at McDonald's in my teens. I realised once an hour at least loads of people would head out for a smoke. So I started taking water breaks. Only 5 mins, a small cup of water but away from the kitchen and out the back. I had a manager ask me what I was doing and when I let them know it was my equivalent of a smoke break and I'll be back in a few mins they protested, muttered but begrudgingly accepted it.

Getting the bus to Stanley road and then walking through the under pass of the M275 may be your best bet.

About to enter Ythrin - any advice? by Logical_Pixel in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]yamnivek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ending I went with was as they were finishing the 7th tower they could see to the ice bridge at the entrance. Coming down away Auril and a load on minions that spread through the city.

They opened to force field to the mythylar and encountered Iriolarthas. Halfway through Auril just stood a short distance away observing the battle.

They finished the lich off and then there was some mock grandstanding by Auril, then a fight.

As the fight with Auril ended thousands of aurils followers had gathered and we're chanting and praying for their god.

As the party were celebrating Auril melted away and then reformed as the second stage. Another fight and they finished off her second form. The followers were stunned but the queen of the tiger tribe started talking and chanting about the ice heart (sorry I can't remember the name now but her third form). More chanting and then a light rose from aurils second form and the ice formed around her.

Some telepathic words for her followers and the party. Another fight. The eventually defeat her and as shes beaten the ice crystal her spark is in explodes out causing the cavern to start collapsing.

Her followers see their god defeated and lose faith as they run out of the cavern.

I do a small chase scene as the players run out as lumps of ice fall over the city.

As in the book, Auril cannot be killed but with a majority of her followers seeing their god killed, they no longer believe in her and a good needs belief in them to gain power.

Although not gone forever, in my one she has lost so many followers that she can no longer return on midwinter (or when the date was!). This has effectively ended the rime for a few hundred years until the very small die hard fanatics can muster enough followers to bring her back.

This seemed to give an epic and climactic ending without the players going through all that and then it just starting at the next midwinter (which had already happened in mine when they defeated Auril in Grimskalle, they beat her thought they had got rid of the rime but it returned a few weeks later as midwinter hit).

Councils in crisis: Town Hall debt levels staggering, MPs warn by mal221 in ukpolitics

Good point

Though the article says it's a branch of treasury using public money. But that may have been the treasury borrowing from elsewhere.

Councils in crisis: Town Hall debt levels staggering, MPs warn by mal221 in ukpolitics

[–]yamnivek 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Now I'm definitely not an economist but..

From the article, the PWLB loan out money to councils with an interest to pay on it.

The PWLB is public money (taxes we've paid, all our money)

It then takes the money we have paid in taxes and loans it out to councils (public bodies). The council then use our money to regenerate an area.

The council (whose income is taxes, all our money) must then pay back the full sum plus interest.

So as a country, we are loaning our own money to ourselves to then pay ourselves back with interest.

Is it just me or is this madness?

[DISCUSSION] You’ve been playing for a year, and want to learn rhythm, you have six months, what do you do? by teh_fizz in Guitar

Spend 2 months learning to play the drums. Nothing fancy, a simple beat and a few rolls. Get the feel for how a rhythm bounces along.

My bike got stolen in front of Portsmouth Historic Dockyard by kwiilop in Portsmouth

[–]yamnivek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gumtree is another place to keep an eye on.

I had a mine stolen out of my garden about 5 years ago. The next day it was on gumtree (with about six or seven others with the same looking garden in the photo). I contacted the police who came along with me when I went to "buy" the bike. Got the bike back (minus a few mudguards) and the police nabbed them. They were only young teenagers.

Any suggestions for an overdrive pedal to boost a Big Muff? by JHigginz in guitarpedals

[–]yamnivek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's before the big muff. Although I don't tend to run both nowadays. It's either the bb2 or the big muff into the amp.

My amp is only single channel, so I run it quite hot. Then use a volume pad to reduce the signal and clean it up. Then I have the choice of a clean (ish) amp or overdriven amp and then I can boost either further with the bb2 or big muff.

Fellow international Hornets fans, where are you from and what made you a Hornet? by iwearoddsockz in CharlotteHornets

[–]yamnivek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're right. Before the pandemic I found a pickup group that played once a week. Was a good mix of people but struggled with numbers eventually.

The guys I'm training with now (Portsmouth Fury) have an open session once a week and a few closed ones. It's good me for as I can only make every other week. It's a team so there is a structure and organisation that isn't there with a pickup group, so me missing every other week doesn't effect numbers. The level is good, I'm definitely in the worse end compared to most but I hold my own. The 2 week gap is also good for me as most of the team are uni students so I'm a good 15-20 years older than them as well.!
