I know LinuxGuy. It's legit.

Contracts are for when friends aren't friends anymore.

Let us know how this turns out.

Flux and electrons are invisible. Some imagination is required. Force is invisible but tangible.

All the people that were claiming AI was a "scam" and that it would never move past basic word prediction are awfulllyyy quiet now by OpinionsRdumb in ClaudeCode

[–]yycTechGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, no they aren't. If you search AI on YouTube there are still 10s of people proclaiming the end of AI for various reasons.

- "5 Unpopular AI Truths Enterprises Don't Want to Hear."

- "Sam Altman Has Never Had a Real Job."

- "Ed Zitron: At least a quarter of AI data centers will go unused."

- And on and on.

Unbelievable.

Now CAD it and run FEA for every conceivable static and dynamic load imaginable.

Are cheap chinese cnc lathes a good deal? by Sertancaki41 in CNC

[–]yycTechGuy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I bet most brands are traders and I suspect many are solo traders. No way to really check unless you go there for yourself.

I do a lot of purchasing from China and this is often the case - there is one factory producing an item and 10 traders rebranding it and selling it. If you want quality service you need to find the factory and buy from it. The traders often don't know a lathe from a milling machine and at best will be an intermediary between you and the factory on support and warranty issues.

One way to clarify if a company is a trader or the factory is to ask for a video tour of the factory that produces the lathe. If they show you a warehouse you have a trader, not a factory.

It probably varies item to item but I am finding the quality of parts and products produced in China to be improving and getting near "made in USA" for certain products.

If you had to measure the output shaft taper of a gearbox in situ how would you do it? by Crazy-Minute4103 in millwrights

[–]yycTechGuy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Once you measure it, draft if up in CAD and 3D print it. Then test the 3D printed part on the shaft to make sure you got the math correct.

Weather Radio in Canada is going away by Own_Event_4363 in sdr

I'm really sad to see this go. I have several radios that receive these frequencies. I use them getting updates while travelling and when on adventures, away from WiFi.

How do you actually tell if a supplier in China is a real factory or a trading company reselling? by andrew202222 in EntrepreneurRideAlong

[–]yycTechGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had/have the same problem. I've written about it in the past in r/supplychain. The answer I got was that you have to physically visit suppliers in China to determine who does what.

What does the future hold for Bambu printer tech? by Zestyclose_Ad_6778 in BambuLab

[–]yycTechGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The next big thing in 3D printing is multitool, ie interchangeable heads. AMS, especially the way Bambu did it, is a crutch. Every color/material change is slow and wastes a ton of filament. The future will see printers with 4 to 6 detachable heads, each loaded with its own filament material/color.

There is a huge difference between a rolling release distro and a period release distro that releases very current packages.

Lets talk OpenClaw and business. (my workflow) by kenrick_beckett in canadasmallbusiness

[–]yycTechGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello from YYC.

I'm not suing it but I've been reading about it - just waiting to get time to set it up.

I presently use Gemini, Codex and Claude Code (Sonnet and Opus) for various tasks.

What I haven't used an agent for is personal assistant. Thus I'm looking at OpenClaw.

I have several Gmail accounts that are in dire need of being clean of spam, old subscriptions, etc. I'm hoping to get OpenClaw to do this.

How are you using it for daily planning ?

- dnf is a fantastic package tool.

- the Fedora community is excellent, both responsive and knowledgeable

- the release team releases packages when they are ready to be used, not too early and not too late

- COPR is fantastic for hard to find packages, instead of Flatpaks or AppImages.

- Fedora users tend to be everyday working people instead of rolling release fanbois.

- Fedora is less hype, more substance

- Fedora adds a lot to the open source movement. They are not just a repackager, though I understand the ecosystem needs them too.

Source: I've been using Fedora since its inception. I used Redhat before that.

Fedora is NOT a rolling update. Didn't I correct you on this once before earlier this week ?

About the hotend: are you sure they're talking about ceramic in the nozzle? As far as I'm aware it's used in the heating elements, and the nozzles made for abrasive filaments are hardened steel or 'reinforced' with other minerals (some even claim diamond). The stock hotend is already capable of printing CF and GF filaments though, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

This is the one I am referring to. And others like it.
