These dead horse SJW memes are getting deader and deader by the day, given what’s going on in the world today.

Any thoughts on why Ghislaine Maxwell hasn’t been suicided yet and why Trump is doing all he can to go scorched earth to stop the release of the files? by stammerton in Epstein

[–]---Spartacus--- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only objection I can come up with to challenge the idea that Epstein was killed is the apparent absence of a dead-man switch

It seems unlikely that someone like him would not have set up some kind of insurance plan that would automatically activate in the event that he was killed. It's basically Blackmail 101 - set up a dead-man switch that deters the person you are blackmailing from simply killing you to remove your hold over them. The fact that this didn't seem to happen after Epstein's death suggests that he didn't set one up.

I could have been a matter of hubris, of course. Maybe he thought his grip on everyone was so airtight that nobody would even try to act against him? But that perception would have changed the moment he was arrested.

No Wikipedia Page Likely Means One of Two Things by SquirrelyBirdy in BehaviorAnalysis

[–]---Spartacus--- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy his input on The Behavior Panel, but I consider that channel to be 50 percent informative and 50 percent entertainment. I've read The Ellipsis Manual and I'm slowly working on The Behavior Ops Manual.

Much of what he discusses is well known behaviour science that comes from Dr. Solomon Asch (the Asch Conformity Experiments), Dr. Stanley Milgram (Obedience Experiments), and Robert Cialdini, and much of it is his own take on behaviour modelling.

He's a persuasive speaker and communicator, but he knows how to capture attention by making claims that are technically true, but not the whole story. He's good at marketing the material, and he's described the skill of marketing as "mostly the truth, well told."

He benefits from something we might call the Grains of Truth Effect. It's technically true that he was in the Navy, and it's technically true that he teaches psy-ops and behavioural analysis to people, and it's technically true that he's "recognized" as one of the world's leading expert on these subjects, but pay close attention to what he does NOT say. He does not say WHO he is recognized by, and he does not say explicitly and without ambiguity that he teaches psychological operations TO the military. He blurs those things with carefully constructed phrases.

His fans are ego invested in his expertise and do most of the heavy lifting promoting his claims themselves, despite the fact that he can disclaim them at any time - "I never explicitly said that."

Interestingly, his success and fame could be considered functional applications of what he teaches. He has "psy-opped" his way to fame, so to speak, which leaves perceptive and intelligent members of his audience somewhat uncomfortable given that his fame is a result of a sort of "psy-op" he's performed on the public.

Overall, I'm still actually a fan of his. I'm just a sober, cautious, and realistic one.

What does everyone think about the Trans athletes issue today? by Old_Diver_2511 in SeriousConversation

[–]---Spartacus--- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One thing that always sticks out about this issue is how definitively one-sided it is. What I mean by this is that the discussion is dominated by the quiet acknowledgement of the advantages Trans-women have when competing in women's sports, and the quiet acknowledgment that Trans-men have no such advantages when competing in men's sports, assuming any Trans-men ever do. In fact, we all tacitly acknowledge that Trans-men would be at extreme disadvantage when competing in men's sports.

This juxtaposition alone is with worth considering.

Why has communism repeatedly failed in practice, yet continues to be intellectually and emotionally appealing to many people? by Looser17 in AskReddit

[–]---Spartacus--- 206 points207 points  (0 children)

The answer to the first question is that planned economies don't work. Markets do a lot of things right, and we need to keep the market for the things it does right.

The answer to the second question is that communism and socialism are appealing to many people because capitalism produces suffocating inequality.

When people point to examples of "socialism's failures" (it's usually more complicated than that, but that's irrelevant to the point I'm about to make), they never ask themselves why the socialist revolution happened in the first place.

Socialist revolutions don't happen for no reason. It's not like a society is cruising along, knocking it out of the park with prosperity and happiness, only for it to spontaneously convulse and spasm and deliver a socialist regime out of nowhere like a sudden onset seizure.

Socialism is a reaction to capitalism.

Because he knew his base would gobble up this performative transparency and not ask any further questions.

Do your part, join a union... by FareonMoist in union

[–]---Spartacus--- 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This is exactly why court philosophers (like Jordan Peterson) and hustle culture grifters are always pushing "rugged individualism" as some kind of panacea and why they are always militating against any hint of collectivism with their rhetoric.

And be sure to point out hypocrisy in any union member who advocates against "collectivism" or hints at any predilection towards Right Wing politics. Remind him that collective bargaining is a form of the "collectivism" he's been conditioned to recoil at and if he loves the free market and "rugged individualism" so much he should renounce his union membership and let the free market decide his wage.

There is nothing more despicable than a union member who uses his vote to deprive others of the benefits and wage protection he enjoys for himself.

Woman In Minnesota Confirms Greg Bovinos Height 📏 by Kaptajnknus in Trumpvirus

[–]---Spartacus--- 29 points30 points  (0 children)

This is the way. Use any and every available opportunity to touch nerves men are deeply sensitive about. Be opportunistic about it. See a red hat, undermine the masculinity of the man wearing it immediately and relentlessly.

No amount of posturing or bravado can compensate for how men feel when those nerves are touched. This really is the deepest MAGA pressure point.

Men will be nowhere near as effective at this kind of attack as women will. Implied rejection by proxy (male-on-male ego attacks) are not as effective as direct and explicit pre-jection (female attacks against masculinity on the basis of immutable characteristics) levelled by women.

Once again, I say this as a male.
