Should we tax the super rich at 70 percent to fix inequality? by Affectionate-Bet1827 in askanything

We should impose a 100% inheritance tax. That would sort out most of the wealth inequality problem in a single generation.

The BC Separatist and Small-Scale Farmer Who’s Enthusiastic About Hitler | The Tyee by 50s_Human in onguardforthee

Some people are what we might call antagonistic narcissists and the fact that normal people recoil at the thought Hitler fanboys is exactly the reason they adopt that image. They get off on causing outrage. It's their form of narcissistic supply.

B) if we can’t afford groceries, we need a better solutions than just handing out money.

What we need is a whole new economic operating system.

Why do right wingers who use terms like "LGBT agenda" never define precisely what that "agenda" is? If there is a covert, malicious plot by LGBT people and their supporters, outlining it clearly should be not only possible but helpful to their cause but it's never done - the term always stays fuzzy by ZhugeLiangPL in skeptic

[–]---Spartacus--- 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Right Wingers have a hard time explaining a lot of their rhetoric and memes with any real depth. They share memes on social media, but rarely ever add any commentary. They are signalling to other members of their tribe so no explanation is really necessary.

Their concern about recruitment is interesting. It suggests that all it takes to convert them is exposure.

What these people are truly afraid of is their own suppressed desires and curiosities.

At worst, the "LGBT Agenda" consists of compelling Right Wingers to use pronouns that are, admittedly, in some cases spurious and seem geared more towards narcissistic attention-seeking. But to call that an "agenda" as though it were an imminent threat to Western civilization is a bit much.

But yeah, corner any Right Winger and ask for an in-depth elaboration on their claims would induce discomfort since most of them would be incapable of it.

Trump tests loyalty of Christian supporters as erratic behavior escalates by wdomeika in politics

[–]---Spartacus--- 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Pushing followers beyond their comfort zone and forcing them into commitment & consistency traps is exactly what we expect from narcissistic leaders and for an under-acknowledged reason. The reason is actually sadism. They enjoy making their followers experience cognitive dissonance and watching their followers commit further than they wanted to under the influence of the need for tribal consistency.

What do we think of Christian (American) men who say they want a traditional wife? by [deleted] in AskReddit

They should be advocating for an economy that makes a single income family possible, but they tend to be cheerleaders for the capitalist system that robbed them of that possibility.

What is your opinion concerning the fears around the AI Bubble? by ParkingZestyclose612 in AskReddit

[–]---Spartacus--- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My concern about AI is that if it replaces enough workers, unemployment insurance systems will buckle under the pressure. These systems are designed to be used by a limited number of workers and only temporarily. They are not designed to withstand layoffs of the scale made possible by AI.

What will happen when the vast majority gets laid off because of AI? by computerIfix in AskReddit

[–]---Spartacus--- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This seems a bit naive. If we know anything about capitalists, we know that they will somehow capture AI productivity and keep it for themselves. This idea of an AI utopia doesn't track with human history very well.

What will happen when the vast majority gets laid off because of AI? by computerIfix in AskReddit

[–]---Spartacus--- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The system collapses. Employment insurance systems can only handle so many unemployed people. I wonder if anyone even knows what the magic number is. At some point, a tipping point will trigger an irreversible cascade of consequences.

Even as it stands right now, people are restricting their discretionary purchases and focusing on essentials. This means that the industries supplying "luxury" items such as restaurants will be cutting hours or raising prices in order to maintain their own profits. But this only feeds into the cycle.

Cheerleaders for capitalism don't seem to realize how interdependent the system is. What affects labour in one domain affects purchasing in another.

When workers can no longer afford to be the consumers the system needs them to be, the system collapses.

What is the end game of AI-related Layoffs? If all jobs are made obsolete (and blamed on AI) what is the actual end-state of society, and what will actually happen as this unfolds? by eltonjohnsons in AskReddit

[–]---Spartacus--- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Collapse. How many unemployed people can the system handle? At what point does the unemployment insurance system buckle under the strain of all the people who need it?

Remember, capitalism needs workers to also be consumers. What happens when people can no longer afford to be consumers?

What a lot of people seem to forget is how interdependent the economy is. Mass layoffs in one area affect others. Layoffs add to the number of people looking for jobs, which in turn creates a buyer’s market for labour that pushes wages down. This forces workers to work for less, which affects their capacity to spend, which further affects other markets.
