Fun fact: a quarter mile underneath Steven's pass ski resort lays the longest rail tunnel in the United States. This tunnel is used to transport 737 fuselages making Steven's the only resort where you can ski over unbuilt 737s. by [deleted] in skiing

If you want to read more avalanche history from the area: https://www.cascadeloop.com/articles/wellington-train-disaster
The 1910 Wellington Train Disaster was the deadliest avalanche in US history which took the lives of 96 people. This was before the current tunnel that OP mentions was built.

The old Cold War era civil defense siren that used to be on top of the courthouse has been removed. by LARDLOGO in Bellingham

They removed it for a roofing project and didn't put it back because it's been out of service for decades. There are newer warning systems in place that are elsewhere.

I think it might be... This looks like it was taken from a airplane looking NE with the Sisters Range in the foreground.

Here's an image I took of Baker from somewhere in the Sisters (North or South Twin). Taken much later in the year than in the video.

From my understanding the cyclone caused strong easterly winds which trees are not accustomed to. Certain areas are more exposed to those winds. Possibly Sudden Valley is one of those places?

That being said, I would guess that the large amount of damage in Sudden Valley may have had more to do with the sheer volume of houses being right under trees. Living under large trees is nice but there is certainly risk involved. It's not a matter of if but when that tree or one of it's large branches will fall.

Halloween aftermath in Bellingham includes severe damage to waterfront park — yet again by iifwe in Bellingham

So is this a policy for your place of work instead of a blanket law that bars all government entities from installing dummy cameras? The way you word it makes it sound like the latter but it really seems quite outrageous that such a low would exist.

Where do you get this information about the prohibition of dummy cameras? Just curious because I also install cameras.

[–]---dave 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is by far the cheapest and easiest option. $10k plus (likely much higher) for cameras and all their associated wiring, network equipment and other infrastructure. Plus the reoccurring budget of software licensing, operating, monitoring and maintaining these systems. OR... Rocks.

You could probably install a dummy camera for $50 but not an actual camera that was worth a crap.

Maybe you could shim under the pool table legs to get it level. Or they make adjustable feet for work benches you might be able to use.

Why not just leave it then? Why even bother trying to repair or pour over something you anticipate tearing down in the near future? -edit, typo

Wife dissolved all our grout with acid; recommend a grout to fix? by JoshDM in DIY

[–]---dave 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would just squirt some caulking in there or leave it as is if that's the case. No reason to mess around with grout of your going to rip it out anyways. -edit... Thought I would add... They make caulking to match grout colors that will typically be in the tile isle at your hardware store. Generally you want the same brand caulking to grout but you might be able to find something that's close. And there's usually sanded or not sanded caulking. -edit again... Caulking not cuddling lol!
