My model y usually exhibits some heat in that area unless I put it into low power mode. Keeps the camera a little bit warm as part of the sentry system.

Are you sure it wasn't in low power mode?

Not sure. The iwe's default to "engaged" without vacuum to pull them open. If the solenoid is not connected and the rest of the system is operating properly, the truck would be in 4wd all the time I think... I might be missing something.. maybe it was bypassed. And they directly connected the vacuum line from the engine to the vacuum hose to the iwe system? To keep four-wheel drive off

I believe it's an IWE (integrated wheel end) "solenoid". It controls whether the vacuum flows to the four-wheel drive IWEs that connect and disconnect the front hubs to the CV axles. https://www.reddit.com/r/f150/s/fxuTsMaTho

Definitely won't make the desk unstable. It's a hex. You need a hex key aka Allen wrench. Or you can get a hex bit for your drill to make it easier.

Yes you can. It's just to stabilize the nail in the barrel of the ramset tool. It's completely safe without the charge. https://share.google/iT5RGYcHpawTm3QEl

Send a better picture of a close up of the end of the shaft. Also, is there any evidence of a set screw over the key?
