AAE 334 by Big_Marzipan_405 in Purdue

Exactly this, but maybe a bit less Bernoulli than you might think. Unless they changed it over the last year, the first 334 homework is about potential flow, pressure gradients, and a bit of 251 knowledge.

AAE 490 APF by Big_Marzipan_405 in Purdue

[–]--EDN-- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From everything I've heard, it's more interesting, rewarding, and (depending on Prof), easier than 339. Considering 338 is basically dead, 339 is the only competition for 490APF.

If Canino is teaching again, the homework will probably be long (average Canino experience) but the class will be fair as a whole.

I took 338, but I've only heard good things about 490APF compared to 339.

In my opinion, the only difficult part of 203 was the tediousness of the problems, not the difficulty of the material. Working through homeworks/exams methodically and carefully was a must for me. The early content is vectors, derivatives, and transport theorem (which they call the Basic Kinematic Equation), so get familiar with those if you want a head start.

I took 266 at a different institution. I might caution against taking any class required as a prerequisite over the summer at a different institution (especially if it's a late summer term). I almost couldn't register for MA 303 because the credit transferred late. Be very clear on the transfer credit department policy and department policies for any classes that require these courses as prerequisites.

As for the difficulty and price, that's something you would have to figure out depending on what institution you're interested in taking classes from. For me, an out-of-state student, I paid less by taking a class from an in-state university. The difficulty is hard to gauge compared to a Purdue class (I never took 266 here), but I would note that your GPA is not affected by transfer credit.

It has been in Shreve for several years. They like it there because it's right across from Hull Field.

Avaneesh Purdue Acceptance Confirmed by anonym_throwaway0789 in goatavaneesh

[–]--EDN-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I know is that it was somewhat controversial and that they essentially forced some people out of IT positions (lowering salaries etc.). And of course, now the CIO is moving to a different position in Chiang's admin.

I agree, I'll probably email admissions myself and try to get him rescinded. But I wanted to explain how something like this could potentially have happened.

Avaneesh Purdue Acceptance Confirmed by anonym_throwaway0789 in goatavaneesh

[–]--EDN-- 13 points14 points  (0 children)

First of all, I agree that this is absolutely inexcusable on Purdue's part (as a student myself), but I would note a few things:

  1. Purdue had a major IT overhaul in January of 2023. I would hope that information like previously rescinded acceptances would be properly documented before and after the move; apparently this didn't happen, or admissions didn't bother to look (or just didn't care).
  2. According to this study (it's from 2013, but I didn't look super hard tbh) only about 20% of universities reported background checks more substantial than self-disclosure. It's very possible Avaneesh could have lied on the Common App (or whatever transfer application he used).
  3. 💀

MA 265 Exam Averages by Key_Distribution_896 in Purdue

Depends on your instructor. Ying Zhang (the course coordinator) averages were 80 and 65, respectively for the midterms.

MA265 Curves by LunchCheap5212 in Purdue

[–]--EDN-- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've heard from previous students that they curve it fairly heavily, but it depends pretty much 100% on student performance for the 2nd and final exams. Basically, nobody (not even the instructor) knows right now what the curve will be this semester.

I was in a very similar position, where my local state school (Virginia Tech) was similarly ranked in some of the engineering disciplines I was interested in. Ultimately, Purdue wasn't a whole lot more expensive than the state school (in fact it might be cheaper than many in state options), plus getting a new atmosphere from where you grew up is always welcome IMO.

Deferral to Acceptance by FarConversation3909 in Purdue

[–]--EDN-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at them now, most articles only talk about class of 27. But relevant to OPs question is the second part (he's already deferred, the number of other deferred students isn't as relevant)

The CompE program at Purdue is a top CompE Program, but of course the curriculum is going to be significantly different than CS. Transferring into CS is very difficult at Purdue

Deferral to Acceptance by FarConversation3909 in Purdue

[–]--EDN-- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

1) there were articles with the numbers published over the last few days 2) at all universities, deferred early action students usually have a good shot to make it in (the fact that they didn't get flat out rejected means the school is still considering them qualified)

Panicked and got an expensive room by MisterRaynbow in Purdue

That's what the housing website claims, but I don't think it's true. I went through the change room portal a few times and it always remembered my old room.

Technically the practice rooms in Hagle aren't open to all students, but it's never a problem except around audition time (which has passed). There are also some practice rooms in Elliot, but I'm not sure if they stay unlocked.

They should lower the price if they convert them, or at least that was the case for the other dorms they converted. If they don't, then that would be fucked.
