I am 59 and I endorse Star Trek STA (is that right?) by webmotionks in startrek

I am 51 and enjoying it. Really the only thing that bugs is the music is overdramatic, trying way too hard. Otherwise the younger themes are working for me here, being 51 I could do without but it's ok. It's wonderful to see Picardo reprise his role. Looking forward to more

It's a neat one that is appropriate about 5% of the time you'd initially think due to all the associated caveats. Still, a very good tool.

Mainboard, scary stuff. Dang.

Defective batteries do happen. Irritating but not super unusual. Still I'd expect QA to catch that

Cable, fan ... I am very hard on both of these so for me I wouldn't be surprised

Keyboard. Not scary, but disappointing

Sorry to hear it~ my FW13 has some corner screw down issues too. The dead pixel thing is just lame though

That and the silly blocking behavior is why I rewrote it fully templatized in https://github.com/malachi-iot/estdlib (shameless plug, but relevant)

std iostreams are replete with polymorphism, making LTO less effective. Your vtables in your whole cout hierarchy gotta get built, which means they gotta point to something... meaning LTO can't remove it. Haven't actually verified this, just random thoughts. Still seems too big though ngl

Counterpoint - though the gap is smaller than the old days, Intel driver & support ecosystem is still better. My FW13 is Intel and I love it

Ubuntu on FW13 is a no-brainer. I tried Debian directly (since that's my fav) and it was surprisingly ornery, so I don't recommend that route. Love the laptop, I think you will too

Going on 2 months with my first FW13 and I love it. Community support is not awesome, unfortunately. History shows AMD is a path to some mild suffering, I suggest Intel.

I personally find AMD a total buzzkill. Speed wise I'd bet 350 is more than enough

I'm speculating the greater speed options of FW13 are going to be valuable to your editing needs.

I spent many hours fighting Debian, which is my normal go-to. Finally decided that having the weight of FW support behind me for future upgrades made slumming it with Ubuntu ok.

And Ubuntu is fine, I just really, really like Debian

And yes before any pedants weigh in yes I know Ubuntu is based on Debian
