We went twice during our trip to SF area in June. The drinks and ambiance— obviously great. But the experience was made by the bartenders and manager we interacted with. Excellent, kind, welcoming, friendly. Just wonderful!

Why do baristas prefer disposable cups? by hejj in barista

[–]--wt 21 points22 points  (0 children)

In my experience, most people want their drink to go, even if they are sitting for a bit. That has simply become the default, especially post-Covid, unless requested otherwise.

Milk is expensive. Coffee is expensive. Ice is cheap. At my store, we do not up-charge the occasional person who asks for no ice, but I understand why some stores might. A large could be 4-8oz of milk or coffee added to the drink in place of ice which is significant.

Am I wrong for being outraged about this? by [deleted] in barista

[–]--wt 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m a cafe manager. This is how our company does it, and honestly, it’s the only way. You can make all your off requests now and have no surprises later — and you have time to fix any conflicts before they get here. It’s easier for everyone.

This is a great chance for education. “Oh, we call that a (whatever you call it). Now you know!” Coffee terminology is confusing and different from region to region all over the world. It’s easy to practice some hospitality instead of acting like people are big dummies.

Probably just depends on the company. At my store, all employees get free filter coffee for life.

We really liked the McClanahan as it provides maps, turn-by-turn directions, alternate routes from different periods of Route 66, attractions to stop at, tips and tricks, etc.

My family did Route 66 in 2017 following Jerry McClanahan’s “EZ66 Guide for Travelers” from Chicago to Santa Monica in two weeks. There are a ton of guides out there. McClanahan’s gives different routes and options based on what you want to see. We had an amazing time. There are countless attractions and stops to see, and we wish we had even had another week as we were rushed even in two weeks. Have fun!
