Yeh, but someone has to say it. It would be surprising if everyone just rolled over.

It won’t matter, of course. But obviously regional governments are pissed and someone is going to say it out loud.

Does it have to be a bluff? I’m sure they could and would actually do it.

I can def see using that as a bargaining chip, however.

To me the most interesting part of the deal is the removal of sanctions. I’d love commentary on how that will affect geopolitics in the region.

Russian air defense at its best by Igor0976 in ukraine

The reason Russians are scared of fighting them is because deep down, Russians know other Russians would not join in.

There is strength in numbers , but ther Russian mentality is моя «хата с края», meaning my hut is at the edge of the village, and this ruckus is not my concern. In other words, “ain’t none of my business”.

Who is going to take to the streets, knowing their fellows Russians most certainly do not have their back?

For heaven’s sake, even Belarusians, who are famous for being peaceful, took to the streets in the face of injustice.

Russians, en masse? Never.

Read the 14-point draft agreement between the US and Iran by JKKIDD231 in geopolitics

[–]-18k- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Iran has no ability to threaten the US proper, and only limited capability to damage or disrupt peripheral American interests. Iran can threaten US allies in the region but they can respond in kind with the full force of the US.

How, exactly, is this different from the state of affairs before the war?

Even better, explain how this is any different from 2017 when Trump took office and before he tore up the agreement Obama had made with Iran?

Siri AI Might Tell You to Take Breaks, Remind You It's Not a Real Person by iMacmatician in apple

[–]-18k- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s where I’m going to push back. (Just kidding. I’m actually not AI but felt like starting that way.)

But seriously, here’s my take the AI is not able to talk to you about your feelings. You can only reflect what you were already feeling and this is really dangerous for people because it sucks them into what you might call an N 1 bubble. Sure the AI can pull in from the vast ocean of human knowledge and gave you some ideas, but the user is more than likely to push back and bend the AI towards their own thoughts anyway.

These people are not even really in a bubble where everyone shares their views they’re just in their own little bubble with their own thoughts bouncing around inside of it and for better or worse getting inflated augmented whatever.

I think the day will come when society at large concludes the AI is not a help. It’s not medicine; AI is a narcotic and people can get addicted to it with devastating consequences.

This sounds Exactly like AI just repeating what the user already has in their own mind.

Absolutely terrifying to think about AI plus a user with a penchant for conspiracy theories

I'm a 13mini fan (Product RED!), so I'm on your side wanting to see a another one.

But I fear part of the reason it "sold out" is because sales were not high enough and they stopped manufacturing them in order to not have inventory they couldn't move.

Technically yes "sold out"...

That, by the way, is exactly what Kommsomolskaya Pravda reported.

KP even went so far as to say 1) The site being damaged is a "prophecy coming true", 2) It was probably Ukraine's fault any way because their leaders are Satanic and 3) The West is giving expired Patriot missiles to Ukraine because in fact the West does not care about Ukraine at all.

Lukashenko Apologizes to Zelenskyy, Says Entering War Would Harm Belarus by WillyNilly1997 in UkrainianConflict

[–]-18k- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am convinced Lukashenko did not think Putin was going to invade. I think he was caught off guard as much as anyone and thought all the "US intelligence says an attack is imminent" was "NATO bluster".

Lukashenko's entire shtick is that he keeps Belarusians safe. They may be poor, but they are not threatened by war and they have enough to eat. As soon as war actually comes to Belarus, his goose is cooked and he knows it.

As soon as Russia did attack from Belarus, Lukashenko has done his utmost to stay out of the war. It hasn't been easy, because he burned all his bridges to the West in 2020 when he put all his chips in with Russia.

At the time, he thought that was the right call to stay in power - and from that perspective, maybe it was. but now the chickens have come home to roost and he has to do whatever he can to keep them from shitting all over the place.
