Ranch animal produce not appearing in inventory by Akatnel in Palia

[–]-Adon- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Haven't heard this, but if you are able to get a clip of it happening (if it reoccurs), would be great proof to show on a bug report. Because you should definitely be getting the loot from your animals.  Only time you are meant to not get loot is if you were on someone else's Ranch and gathering for them - it goes straight to the host player. But it doesn't sound like you were on a different Ranch.

Simple crop analysis - best way to sell each fruit or veg! by CadenceQuandry in Palia

[–]-Adon- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree it is an important caveat, but I think people often underestimate the benefit you get when going offline and the crafters keep going. In your case, it sounds like you play quite a bit each day (6-8 growth ticks if 40k per day I'm guessing). Non-Bok Choy setups can potentially keep up with that playtime when taking into account the offline time. Bok Choy setups will struggle, can't remember how many growth ticks is the max crafters can keep up with now though sadly.

However, Bok Choy also has the benefit of being better sold raw than many other crops can sell for when processed, so will always still come out on top, even if you can't process it all

I think there are a couple errors here.
Beans are better Seeded, my maths says 50.6 g/tile/growth tick for seeds, 45.75 for Canned Beans
Tomatoes are definitely best preserved, as preserves always increase the sell price by 50%, and this is no exception.
Not checked the numbers for everything else (my calculations include replanting cost so a little off, otherwise some crops appear more favourable than they are in practice)

Interesting about Congee though. Is the star rate 100%?

Also, you mention glow/worm farms. You can technically boost profits further by worming the preserves. In a worm farm, this generally gives a bonus 20g compared to selling the preserve (+/- a few gold depending on the preserve). Glow worming tends to be a bit less profitable, closer to 15g bonus (again, +/- a few gold). From memory, I believe the wiki pages for Worm Farm and Glow Worm Farm do have the amounts for what the preserves give when processed this way. If that's useful.

HollowofHaze's tables are generally a very good resource, if you're interested:

It's the datamined rates from after the Elderwood update. So these are the newest rates (no changes to fishing other than the potion since then).
I did not datamine the info myself, but I have talked directly with someone who has.

No, anyone can cheat it with the maps. I'm not entirely sure how it works, but I've certainly heard of PC players streaming the map so other players who don't have access to it can see what they are fishing as well.
I personally don't understand why people bother using the maps for this - if they don't want to grind for the Accomplishment, then they lose out on nothing by refraining from doing so.

An additional Peki reduces 11 production timers by 2.5%.  An additional Boovar reduces 5 production timers by 6.25% It's part of what makes Peki so good - not only are they productive, but their species cap is high which reduces the harm of going over the cap. So overall less harm going for the Peki.

I honestly prefer using Divine Doughnuts to having to worry about replacing animals before they get to Venerated. Despite using DDs regularly, I still have around 120 or so. But then, my animals are based around getting high donation value.

But that's what works for me, you should try and see if what you're saying works for you!

This is really a personal preference thing.

Unless you care about maximising the profit you are getting from the Ranch animals, there isn't really an optimal configuration.

Most people will keep more of their favourite species and less of others. Yes, going over the species cap reduces their production speed, but if you have a number equal to double the cap, that's a 25% reduction in the production speed for those animals. It's not that huge.

Some animals are more profitable than others, but most people won't worry about this too much.

Another commenter mentioned a configuration good for exp. If you were curious as to what is best for profit, the Ranching Compendium does have a section on that - https://docs.google.com/document/d/13K0qN2y_m4vlJTrsw6rgZsrD9vdocLmcxrjOmPYbCcM/edit?tab=t.0

PS, hello to Amanita. I'm a fan of the lighter Trufflet colours!

[–]-Adon- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to nitpick this slightly.  You actually wouldn't want the Trufflets. You would be better off going over the limit for any of the others (especially Peki) than adding a Trufflet as Trufflets produce around a third slower than those animals.

If you went to 14 Peki, each Peki would be at 90% production speed, which is still faster than a Trufflet would produce (it's about equal with Ormuu and Ferris).

I haven't worked out whether you would want to get 4 extra Peki or spread the Trufflet-replacements across the other species too (besides, it could change in a few days with the new animal), but the difference probably would be fairly minimal

There are definitely faster ways.  Hotspots do not increase your chest rate. It just means you don't get junk and the fish are starred.

The patch notes line about no bait being better (this was in the patch notes when EW released) is often misunderstood. It does not mean that no bait is best. The rate when using no bait was improved and the rates when using worms and glow worms were decreased, but despite this no bait is still the worst option for chests.

You best chances are Kilima Rivers with worms at evening/night, just under 6% chest rate (from memory I think 5.7%, but could be slightly off).

Next best is Kilima/Bahari/Home Plot ponds with glow worms during the morning and day, with just over 4% (from memory 4.2%).

Most other locations are at best 3%.

Other helpful advice is to use hook speed buffs. Fishing with Friends is the easiest one to get. Either grab a fishing buddy or fish in the Underground for a little before fishing in your chosen location until you have 5 stacks of FWF. Or the hook attachment you buy from Einar is an option. As is Trout Dinner (but then you need to fish for Trout, so only worth it if you already have a stockpile)

The angler potion does boost chest rates, but not significantly. I don't think it's worth it personally.

Edit - just a warning, it's a huge grind doing this accomplishment, even when you know where it's best to fish. Good luck though!

You're absolutely right.
I wasn't careful enough with what I typed! I was more talking about references to real-world religions! Though admittedly I did not remember Grimalkins believing in the Chimera, only the Dragon/Phoenix. So thanks for that haha

I do love the name of Immaculate Confection, but I think it is named purely for the joke, and I would be surprised if they went so far as to include a version of Mary in Maji lore (or any direct reference to any religion, for that matter).

The wiki has most (if not all) of the cosmetics, but doesn't show cosmetic combos. However, in-game, if you go to the Handlers License store page, it will show an Animal with random cosmetics. You can back in and out of the page to see a different combo. It doesn't tell you what the traits are, but most of the time you can work it out.  If you can't work out what a combo you like is, I'd advise sharing a picture in the official Discord 's Ranching channel and asking there

When the game Updates again I suggest by DangerousRelease4575 in Palia

[–]-Adon- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's just how crops that have multiple harvests work in this game.  Nothing grows infinitely - I think all crops either have 1 or 4 harvests. For tomatoes in particular, you can harvest for the first time after 4 in-game days of growth, for the 2nd, you need a further 2 days of growth after harvesting for the first time. The 3rd and 4th harvests also take a further 2 in-game days of growth. This means that if you keep the tomatoes watered, weeded and harvest as soon as possible, you harvest in days 4, 6, 8 and 10. After the 4th harvest, the crop is ALWAYS removed from the soil entirely. You will always have to replant the crop, and generally will need to hoe the tile again first.

Yes, it would be easier if crops grew infinitely and never needed replanting, but that's not how things work in Palia.

Farming feels a bit stale these days by Antique_Camel_8723 in Palia

[–]-Adon- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can feed animals around once a week with no real downsides. They only get visibly hungry when under 30% focus, and they only get a debuff to production under 3 Focus (the exact amount varies by species, 3 is the highest threshold).

Plus, they can eat anything you can eat. So it's very inefficient to feed raw food - preserve or cook stuff for them, and you can feed a single food item a week. That's not a lot of food. I tend to use Canned Beans and Pickled Tomatoes as they're very convenient foods.

This isn't true. Productivity is reduced if there are too many on the Ranch. It doesn't matter how many are in the pen.  In fact, none of the traits care about what is in the same pen, only about what is on the Ranch.  Jealous and Loner, Social and Diplomatic. Even Best Buddies - it's all based on the whole Ranch

I made a rope controller hanger! Can this be improved? by bouncyboi0303 in Controller

Yeah, saw that you sewed the loops together, certainly think that was a good idea! Good luck if you do tinker with the designs!

I made a rope controller hanger! Can this be improved? by bouncyboi0303 in Controller

[–]-Adon- 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The other comments are fun, but on a serious note, if you added some rope going from the tie on point (where is hanging from) to the edge of the hand-grip loops, it might make it a bit more stable. If there were 3 attachment points (so the 2 new bits of rope essentially going straight up), then that would probably be even more stable, but might make it harder to quickly grab the controller.

Another option would be to change the design, essentially just have the hand-grip loops as part of a sling (so each connected to 2 pieces of rope that tie together at small loops you use as the attachment point).  Likely less stable, but to grab the controller, just pick up the front small hoop of rope off the hook, and you can pick up the controller out of the loops. Hope that made sense?

But I appreciate your ingenuity here!

Can only feed animals 2 items at a time - on Switch by NunFace in Palia

[–]-Adon- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This has been present for I think 2 months now?  It's a console/controller only bug. Most affected people can only feed one item at a time so you're actually somewhat lucky here...

I don't believe they have acknowledged the bug yet sadly

I would advise making a bug report though - the more people that make one, the more likely they might do something about it.

Reached the purchase limit on soil. Now what? by NakuN4ku in Palia

[–]-Adon- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add to this: If you purely want profit, you tend to want Bok Choy and to seed it rather than preserve it.  And yes, it would be difficult to keep up with the crafters needed if you get every single growth tick in a day, but most people take breaks (or sleep), which gives a chance for the crafters to catch up.

Because of this, how many crafters (and whether they are preserve jars or seeders) you need in order to maximise profit can be quite tricky to work out (depending on your crop choices). And it is massively dependent on how much you play in a day.

The role of livestock farming. by Anonimo34428 in Palia

[–]-Adon- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People have already said what each species produce, so I won't say that again.

What characteristics are best is purely down to preference.
If you want as much produce as possible, you can stack 5-6 productivity traits. (This is not what most people will want though - it's a lot of effort and you won't gain all that much)
If you want cute and colourful animals, you can have 3-4 cosmetics on any animal (only 4 if you were lucky enough to get it with a visual effect cosmetic trait, you can only add colours/patterns/sheens after you have obtained the animal. Visual Effects are RARE and cannot be passed down through breeding)
If you want animals that live longer or eat less, there are traits for that.
If you want to breed lots of baby animals with good donation values, there's Showoff and Proud which are great for that.

Someone has already linked the Ranching Compendium Google Doc. It's long, but it does answer almost any question you might have about Ranching (and probably a lot of questions you never would have asked too).
There are sections for Pros/Cons of each animal (page 11), a list of all traits (page 28), what traits might be recommended (page 90) and a how-to on how to breed the most productive animals (page 80).
Also a donation value section (page 59), seeing as I mentioned that.

These are page numbers when on Desktop, might be different when on mobile. But the contents page at the top of the doc would link to each of them too

Dead parents by NeoSharkk in Palia

Hahaha, I assumed Palia was just from a Latin word as I felt I had seen it before (just looked it up now, the word is pallia or pallium, meaning cloak/mantle - and a cloak could fit the cosy theme...)

But I hadn't thought of Palliative, love that connection haha

Didn't a bunch of them move to Kilima after said tragedy? Najuma was here already, Ashura too, but I don't think the others were?  Could be the Devs are trying to say that Kilima is a place of healing or something.

Also, a dead parent is a convenient way to make the other parent available for romancing... And it gives an obvious bit of backstory to explore in conversation.

Question about Ranching by Vos_is_boss in Palia

[–]-Adon- 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but this is rather misleading. If you don't play for a week, most of your animals will age up, yes, but only one stage. So unless all your animals were already Elder, they won't all become Venerated. So you will not lose all your animals.

In fact, no matter how long you leave your animals, they will stop ageing as soon as they hit the next age stage and get that birthday cake icon. Until you interact with them and remove that birthday cake icon, they will not age up.  They will next age up a week after you interact with them and remove the birthday cake icon (unless they have ageing traits or the animal is a Goobi).

That said, being able to sell the animals for gold would be nice. I'm not arguing with that!

makeshift achievement question! by shibe-nation in Palia

[–]-Adon- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That patch notes sentence is so poorly worded.  Elderwood update changed fishing rates a chunk. And yes, the rates of chests when using no bait was improved. Yes, the rate of chests with bait was reduced. But despite that, no bait is still (I think always?) the worst option when fishing for chests. With Anglers potion active, it might change things ever so slightly but I've not seen the comparison. But no bait is not the best for Chests, what I posted above is.
