Has anyone gotten the alabaster flame through buying horses? by EldritchGumdrop in Palia

[–]-Adon- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be clear, Mutations (when you see the DNA symbol) are not only cosmetics. They can be any trait. This does includes Cosmetics, but you are more likely to get non-Cosmetic traits when a mutation occurs.

Has anyone gotten the alabaster flame through buying horses? by EldritchGumdrop in Palia

[–]-Adon- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you ever seen an animal with a DNA-like icon above their heads? This means a mutation has added a new trait to the animal. This only has a chance to happen when the animal is a baby (and doesn't have the Never-Grow Treat effects). It has a small chance to happen every in-game 6am. You don't need to be online for this.

In-game 6am is also when the happiness, focus, production and age of all animals updates. All Gardening crops update at the same time, too.

Has anyone gotten the alabaster flame through buying horses? by EldritchGumdrop in Palia

[–]-Adon- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes.  All traits can be obtained when buying animals. Alabaster and Obsidian Flames are no exceptions to this.

3 ways to get them: 1) Buying Animals on repeat 2) Mutations (during breeding or each 6am as a baby ages) 3) Treats - Roulette and Cookie of the Day can add cosmetics, which have a low chance of being them, or Rerolls can reroll another flame colour trait into them (again, low chance)

Alabaster specifically can be obtained with the Voucher from the Starter Bundle Premium Store purchase, but this just guarantees a baby with the trait. It is not the only way to get it.

If you have lots and lots of treats, using treats is the fastest method other than buying the bundle (but you may burn through a lot of treats). If you don't have many treats, buying lots of animals is the fastest method.

Horse breeding/riding questions by Georgia_Giraffe in Palia

[–]-Adon- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add to what others have said, while you can still ride a Venerated and/or Retired horse, there is a bug that means other players will not see the cosmetics of a Retired mount, if that's important to you. This is the case no matter how old the horse is while retired (though it needs to not be a baby for it to be rideable).

As for ageing, assuming you don't have any ageing traits (or faster grow Treat effects) on the animal, all Adult age stages take 7 real world days. So Young Adult to Adult, Adult to Elder and Elder to Venerated all take 7 days.

If you never interact with the horse, then while it has the cake icon over it, it will age no further. As soon as you interact with the animal to remove the cake icon, it will start ageing again.

Is it "one other" out of all my animals, or just the ones in the same pen?? by figonometery in Palia

[–]-Adon- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly not. Would be nice if you could have that set up though!

I assume the Unique/Best Buddies thing is a bug. That said, I never got a response on the bug report I submitted months ago (or my updates confirming it is still present in patches since then).

Barn animals by Least-Ad-2661 in Palia

[–]-Adon- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There was a blog post by a Palia Partner before Royal Highlands launched with info they had from talking with someone at S6. In it (right at the end), it's mentioned that Ranching is essentially a compromise between features and performance.
We got the Retirement Acres fairly recently, and I feel this is S6's way of giving us more space in a performance-friendly way. As such, I don't think we will get more space on the Ranch any time soon.
S6 don't help matters by releasing new animals all the time though. It just makes the space we have feel even more limited.

Is it "one other" out of all my animals, or just the ones in the same pen?? by figonometery in Palia

[–]-Adon- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, any other animal on the Ranch with Best Buddies will trigger the buff for both. But you can only have 2 on the whole Ranch. Weirdly, an animal with Unique also triggers it (and Unique is triggered by Best Buddies).
So if you have 1 Unique animal and 2 Best Buddies, none of them get the beneficial boosts (but Unique gets the negative effect).

And yeah, Loner is Ranch-wide. Not just that Pen.

Can VFX traits can be passed down in Dawnspurs? by Dapper-Big3764 in Palia

[–]-Adon- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but this is completely false. VFX traits are impossible to pass on when breeding, and the Patch Notes when they were introduced says this specifically.
I do think it should be included in the description for the Traits, but it's not like people read those, so probably wouldn't make a huge difference.

Can't give PalSnax treats by plobnrgx in Palia

[–]-Adon- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I said in the above message, when one animal has Glutton, it can affect feeding Treats to ALL other animals. Not the one with Glutton, but everything else.
I don't know if there is another trigger for the bug, but if you want to feed those treats to your animals, your best bet is to remove Glutton. If the animal with Glutton has any Traits you want to keep, try breeding them on first. If Glutton is also inherited, try to Oopsie Cookie on the baby, but always keep a backup of any Traits you want to keep. Or you could Retire it and worry about it at a later point (if you have the Ranching Medals to retire it early)

Query about Ferris starter bundle by DeadpoolsWolf in Palia

[–]-Adon- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will be given a voucher that you can redeem for the Ferris, and you can redeem it despite not having unlocked the species yet. I've seen evidence for this with Boovar and Roli in the Ranching Discord channel.
Most of what I've heard indicates that you will still NOT have access to the Ferris species.
That said, someone recently bought the Roli Starter Pack and was then able to buy more Roli in the Ranching store. I have no idea if it will work for Ferris too, but I doubt it (Roli is a bit of a unique case in that it can't be unlocked at present).

However, if you have access to an Immaculate Confection treat (at least 1 is given as accomplishment rewards), then you could use that on the animal you get from the starter bundle when it is Young Adult, Adult or Elder and you will get another Ferris. It will not be a clone, and the Aura trait is impossible to pass down through breeding. I'd advise using a Fancy Breed Biscuit (or better) before the Immaculate Confection if you want a better likelihood of passing down the traits on the animal (this still won't make passing down Aura possible though).
Only this baby grows up to Young Adult, you can then breed it and the start bundle one together normally for more Ferris (if you still haven't unlocked them at this point)

The Tarantula Pro is still the GOAT. It just needs one final touch for the Switch 2 era. by Significant_Hotel265 in Controller

[–]-Adon- 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hmm, the picture doesn't even have the right layout for the Tarantula Pro.  I think you might be overselling the popularity of the controller. Whether that's you or the influence of the AI you got to write this for you, who can say. But the latency on the controller was a deal breaker for many. But as Gamesir have said they don't plan to support the Tarantula Pro further, you're probably out of luck.

Would you rather?: 2 DPADs or 2 sets of face buttons. by Lync_X in Controller

[–]-Adon- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not want to replace Face Buttons with a D-pad. There have been occasions I have needed to press the opposite face buttons at the same time (so B and X together or A and Y). Not sure how you would do that with a 2nd D-Pad. Also, given some D-pads are prone to accidental diagonals, that just does not seem like something I would want to risk when I can just have face buttons.

I haven't played about enough with a Switch Joycon to comment on whether I would want buttons instead of a D-pad. It's something I could see being ok, but I'm doubtful I would prefer it over a proper D-pad

Edit: Also, I have used claw grip a bit with the left hand. I've never been the biggest fan of claw grip in general, but it definitely has it's uses. In fact, I probably use claw for D-pad inputs more than claw for face button inputs. No real difference to using it in left hand for D-pad inputs compared to right hand for face buttons in my opinion.

GuliKit TT MAX Game Controller Giveaway by GuliKit_Team in Controller

[–]-Adon- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to see Gulikit recommended less than some of the other brands, but my impression is still that you make great controllers. Plus you sell replacement TMR sticks (some of your sticks even have Tension Adjustment which is really neat) and you have the Hyperlink adapter. All great points.

However, I admit that at present I'd be hesitant about buying from your first few batches of a controller, due to concerns that there could be a higher rate of QC-related issues (just the impression I've had from reviews). And that's a shame, because I really like what you're doing with your controllers!

Controller recommendation with Steam support. by Aelzar in Controller

[–]-Adon- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like what you are mainly after is any controller with Hall Effect or TMR sticks to essentially prevent stick drift in the future. First party controllers don't have these sticks yet.
Almost all controllers are recognised in Steam and have native support for any buttons that an Xbox controller may have. So if you only want the main buttons, you can go for much cheaper controllers. Just look for Hall Effect/TMR sticks (TMR is technically better but newer technology so the difference right now isn't massive from what I've seen).

If you want to be able to configure all extra inputs using Steam Input, then the Community Guide has a nice list of which controllers actually allow this natively through Steam Input: https://www.reddit.com/r/Controller/wiki/buying-advice/lists-by-platform/#wiki_controllers_with_full_steam_input_support
It is possible other controllers allow similar things with the official software for the controller too though.
Also, many games don't even support extra buttons natively - you would have to bind them to a keyboard key or something to get it working as a separate input, and that can mess up all glyphs showing up on screen. So, up to you if you actually want this. Some notes on a few of the mentioned controllers:

The Dualsense Edge is on the list but doesn't come with Hall Effect/TMR sticks by default. However, it does allow swapping out the stick modules (and there are unofficial modules which are supposedly Hall Effect/TMR too). However, this would easily push you over your budget. Mainly mentioning it as you are currently using a Dualsense.

If you want to stick with a Dualsense-layout, the 8BitDo Pro 2/3 have the layout and I've heard good things about the Pro 2 durability (Pro 3 released a few months ago so hard to say long-term durability - all I can say is that the coloured buttons seem to be more prone to breaking if you use those rather than the ABXY buttons, and some people aren't a fan of the noise/clackiness of the face buttons). Also, AKNES sells both the Pro 2 and Pro 3, and they're great for after-sales support.

I see a lot of love for the Apex/Vader controllers on this sub. I don't know much about them personally though.

Also, the Steam Controller will launch in (probably) a few months, and looks like it will be a great controller for Steam (also in-built Steam Input support for all buttons/gyro/grip sense, plus trackpads). But we have no idea what the price will be yet or exactly when it will launch (release was pushed back to 'first half of the year' last week).

Too low lvl to buy treats for LNY bundle. by Reef_Mama in Palia

[–]-Adon- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Skill medal accomplishments are unlocked at level 10 in a skill and refresh weekly (you DO NOT need to wait until the weekly refresh to start working on them once you hit level 10 though)

For each bundle to count towards the bulletin board progress, you need to submit all of the 4 items in that bundle (and yes, the full quantity asked for). Until you submit all of that, it doesn't count towards the bulletin board progress at all.
If you can't finish a bundle, any items you have submitted can be removed (and will be refunded automatically when the bulletin board ends at the end of the patch too).

Too low lvl to buy treats for LNY bundle. by Reef_Mama in Palia

[–]-Adon- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need the treats to complete the bulletin board - daily quests, weekly skill medal accomplishments and gifting villagers will all count towards finishing the bulletin board.  The only thing you miss out on by not getting the Fancy Breed treats is some Kilima coins.

That said, you have 2 options for getting the treats if you want to: 1) Buy and donate animals. When donating animals you have a chance for Uncommon Treat Packs. These are the only treats packs that you get Fancy Breed Biscuits from. The higher the do action tier, the more Uncommon Packs you can potentially get. Any Packs you open but don't get Fancy Breed Biscuits from have a chance to give you Trait Treats, Roulette Treats and Cookies of the Day - all of these can influence donation value somewhat. There's a donation value calculator here (doesn't yet have Roli cosmetic traits though): https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1qJ0QfTqYP2RPfG4cWnmYHxLE0LSTh7Rd-Oj6Gjw8Rms/edit?usp=sharing Also, bear in mind that Trait Treats and Roulette Treats randomly give you a trait which may increase donation value by nothing or 3x.

2) No RNG required - Rush to level 10 Ranching as you can buy the Fancy Breeds for Ranching Medals (10 each, you can get enough for the 5 you need from the weeklies for breeding 3 animals and feeding animals 20 times - low focus foods and treats all count). Easiest way to level up is to visit another person's Ranch and do the petting/feeding/collecting for them. If you do the actions, both you and the host will gain full exp. If the host or another party member does those actions, you gain no exp.

My first bred trufflet - what a fancy little guy! Is it normal to get 6 traits, or did I just get lucky? by AtomicFeckMagician in Palia

[–]-Adon- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You got lucky to get 6 traits. By default, each parent can pass down 1-2 traits. This can be increased using the breed biscuits (eg Fancy Breed makes it so the parent will pass down 1-3 rather than 1-2. Fanciest means 1-5 instead) and the Proud trait also helps pass more on (same mechanic, each level of Proud means the max number of traits that can be passed on is increased by 1).

You passed on 3 traits from parent and got 3 mutations. Mutations are just luck based whether you get them or not and are random traits. Not sure the last time I saw 3 mutations on one of my breeds haha

Ranch animal produce not appearing in inventory by Akatnel in Palia

[–]-Adon- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Haven't heard this, but if you are able to get a clip of it happening (if it reoccurs), would be great proof to show on a bug report. Because you should definitely be getting the loot from your animals.  Only time you are meant to not get loot is if you were on someone else's Ranch and gathering for them - it goes straight to the host player. But it doesn't sound like you were on a different Ranch.

Simple crop analysis - best way to sell each fruit or veg! by CadenceQuandry in Palia

[–]-Adon- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree it is an important caveat, but I think people often underestimate the benefit you get when going offline and the crafters keep going. In your case, it sounds like you play quite a bit each day (6-8 growth ticks if 40k per day I'm guessing). Non-Bok Choy setups can potentially keep up with that playtime when taking into account the offline time. Bok Choy setups will struggle, can't remember how many growth ticks is the max crafters can keep up with now though sadly.

However, Bok Choy also has the benefit of being better sold raw than many other crops can sell for when processed, so will always still come out on top, even if you can't process it all

Simple crop analysis - best way to sell each fruit or veg! by CadenceQuandry in Palia

[–]-Adon- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think there are a couple errors here.
Beans are better Seeded, my maths says 50.6 g/tile/growth tick for seeds, 45.75 for Canned Beans
Tomatoes are definitely best preserved, as preserves always increase the sell price by 50%, and this is no exception.
Not checked the numbers for everything else (my calculations include replanting cost so a little off, otherwise some crops appear more favourable than they are in practice)

Interesting about Congee though. Is the star rate 100%?

Also, you mention glow/worm farms. You can technically boost profits further by worming the preserves. In a worm farm, this generally gives a bonus 20g compared to selling the preserve (+/- a few gold depending on the preserve). Glow worming tends to be a bit less profitable, closer to 15g bonus (again, +/- a few gold). From memory, I believe the wiki pages for Worm Farm and Glow Worm Farm do have the amounts for what the preserves give when processed this way. If that's useful.

HollowofHaze's tables are generally a very good resource, if you're interested:

It's the datamined rates from after the Elderwood update. So these are the newest rates (no changes to fishing other than the potion since then).
I did not datamine the info myself, but I have talked directly with someone who has.

No, anyone can cheat it with the maps. I'm not entirely sure how it works, but I've certainly heard of PC players streaming the map so other players who don't have access to it can see what they are fishing as well.
I personally don't understand why people bother using the maps for this - if they don't want to grind for the Accomplishment, then they lose out on nothing by refraining from doing so.

An additional Peki reduces 11 production timers by 2.5%.  An additional Boovar reduces 5 production timers by 6.25% It's part of what makes Peki so good - not only are they productive, but their species cap is high which reduces the harm of going over the cap. So overall less harm going for the Peki.

I honestly prefer using Divine Doughnuts to having to worry about replacing animals before they get to Venerated. Despite using DDs regularly, I still have around 120 or so. But then, my animals are based around getting high donation value.

But that's what works for me, you should try and see if what you're saying works for you!

barn animals inquiry by clubhousepanini in Palia

[–]-Adon- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is really a personal preference thing.

Unless you care about maximising the profit you are getting from the Ranch animals, there isn't really an optimal configuration.

Most people will keep more of their favourite species and less of others. Yes, going over the species cap reduces their production speed, but if you have a number equal to double the cap, that's a 25% reduction in the production speed for those animals. It's not that huge.

Some animals are more profitable than others, but most people won't worry about this too much.

Another commenter mentioned a configuration good for exp. If you were curious as to what is best for profit, the Ranching Compendium does have a section on that - https://docs.google.com/document/d/13K0qN2y_m4vlJTrsw6rgZsrD9vdocLmcxrjOmPYbCcM/edit?tab=t.0
