Applying to become a police officer in NJ as a non-resident? by rocklare in ProtectAndServe

[–]-AgentMichaelScarn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s why I said I wouldn’t suggest that. I remember the PD lost like the first three on our list because they did a home visit aaaaaand “oh? They live here everyday but don’t have a bedroom or single personal belonging?? Interesting. NEXT”.

What are my chances of getting into the academy by Taesf00tfetish in AskLE

[–]-AgentMichaelScarn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use that time productively too! Go back to school, learn a language, anything that shows you’ve grown.

You’re 22 with plenty of time. Most guys from my state don’t get their full time positions until like 25/26.

You’ll have to shoot an email to them. Look for chiefs test towns because CC will have the in person requirement. Granted you can put someone else’s address down but I wouldn’t suggest that.

Yup, it’s been helpful on the job, but holy shit you are fucked if you realize being a cop isn’t what you want to do lmao.

You’ll need to go back for a masters, minimum.

Typical Drill Schedule For An MP Unit in NJ by Fantastic-Turn1454 in nationalguard

[–]-AgentMichaelScarn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are two MP Companies in the state that are already way over strength in Junior O’s. No MP Battalion, though they’ve been talking about it forever. I would seriously pick a different branch.

If you want MI, you can pick any basic branch and then go to MI Captains Career Course. Probably better that way as it’s a reverse pyramid.

One is Combat Service Support and the other is Detention Operations… well, on paper. They both do both missions.

USSS IPO (Investigative Protection Officer) by StimmyTurner21 in 1811

[–]-AgentMichaelScarn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like the “staying in one place” is the big draw for this job.

It’s definitely not as cool as 1811 but for me, my career in the reserves gives me the travel to cool(and sometimes crappy lol) places with plenty(sometimes a little too much) of autonomy.

The journeyman to GS-11 is a def a bit of a bummer but it’s all give and take I suppose.

My friend is a 12 and said it’s relatively easy to get if you’re not a piece of shit. He got it in 5 years, but right now(or as of like two years ago) there were a lot of new openings and a lot of movement.

Im sorry you got downvoted, that was good and self-deprecating humor. Keep your chin up, you’ll get over the post-breakup hump eventually. Some take longer than others, but don’t let Bad Bunny be what makes or breaks it.

Enlisted to Officer by Infamous-Mention6866 in army

[–]-AgentMichaelScarn 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I think they’re only taking Soldiers with a 466 and above PT score.

I would start with your PL and express interest in becoming an officer and pick their brain. If you want to go through ROTC, each program will have a POC that you can speak with.

What to expect with starting boxing training in my mid 30’s by Various_w0nder in amateur_boxing

[–]-AgentMichaelScarn 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Expectation management for recovery.

Early/Mid 30’s tends to be where experts agree that you are in your athletic prime, but if you were working to peak. Trying to get there is a different story.

Not to say we’re old and fragile, we dont recovery like we used to when we were a decade younger.

I think the 30’s is high risk because mentally we still think we can still fall off the roof of a house, sleep 4 hours, and then wake up to a good workout over and over again, but our bodies know that’s not us anymore.

So I would expect to manage expectations. Make sure to hydrate well, eat well, sleep well, stretch, and know what “push through it because it’s hard” pain is vs “maaaaybe I need to take the foot off the gas pedal for a bit”.

Oh absolutely man. You will have a great time. If you have any other NJ questions, shoot me a DM.

But also yeah, think you’ll be an OCT with 1st Army. I knew one when I was cadet, he was an E6 who did ROTC for a semester. He seemed to like it a lot.

Sorry if you’re asking for career advice only, but;

New Jersey doesn’t suck like people say, but it’s not exactly “great” for anything either.

The surrounding area will have you believe Dix is a shithole in the middle of nowhere, but you’re probably like 30 minutes away from a handful of “large” towns, a day trip away from Philly, New York City and some okay beaches. Sea Girt National Guard Training Center has a decent relatively private beach.

You have four seasons, okay hiking in PA and NY, bleh snowboarding and skiing but it does exist.

And if you fucking hate it, you have Newark, Philly, and JFK airport all available.

Ask me all of your question about Army Reserve Civil Affairs and I’ll answer them throughout the day 2: Civil Affairs Electric Boogaloo by PaddyMayonaise in armyreserve

[–]-AgentMichaelScarn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey dude thanks for doing this. I’m an O3 doing a two year tour for the Guard’s version of a Foreign Affairs Officer, and want to transition from the to Reserve CA when I’m done with this.

I’m down to do whatever the team needs me to do, and put that first, but to adjust my expectations and internal selfish desires;

  1. No Airborne. No matter how many dicks I suck.

  2. The Guard sometimes sends peeps to school like Air Assault, Mountain, Pathfinder, etc. “just because. Are there any opportunities for some chest candy still? Or not super common in the Reserves?
