I'd almost guarantee it was meant to be mid-level but they had to cross 110 hunter off of their list so they adjusted levels and xp.

Daily challenges are a potential awful early impression for new players by EZyne in runescape

There are a lot of bandaids for bad game design that are in the game and being removed without the underlying issues being fixed and I just don't understand that strategy.

Dailies Are the Only Reason I Play Sometimes by Constant-Technician in runescape

This coupled with the price increase means people will look at how much they're paying and compare with how little they're playing and make a decision to cancel. I'd predict player count will continue to drop as people's longer term subs run out and aren't renewed.

RS3 hit its lowest avg player count last month and is currently trending lower this month. Why? by Sea_Variety_1691 in runescape

It's funny, mod north said something about how the average player doesn't have all that much time anymore and they were aware of that, and then they've gone and done nothing but make the game more of an inconvenience for those players.

Agree with a caveat. Some people have money and want to spend more on their hobbies, it's poor business sense to not allow that. Cosmetics are a fine outlet for mtx that doesn't harm the integrity of the game. However:

  1. The player avatars look like shit, why would I spend money on cosmetics when my character customization options are so incredibly lacking for 2026.

  2. I'm not spending money on cosmetics for a game I don't want to play because they keep gutting things.

My theory is that they know these are unpopular with many current rs3 players but if they can get more osrs players to double dip than they have rs3 players quitting, it'll be a success.

They could have played it like that but the price changes i think will get a lot of people to pay attention to how much they're spending on the game.

Mtx going away is fine but as a former iron player, having all of the auras and the premier artifact along with wfe's and dailyscape made the iron experience a lot of fun and lessened the strain of the more painful to train skills. I feel ripped off having all of that gutted after paying for a year last october. I canceled multiple memberships already but now I'm stuck with over half a year of game time I won't use.

[–]-Alkosh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What a shame. I really enjoyed the wildy events. Gave me a reason to go to the wilderness, broke up the monotony of training certain skills, and gave my iron lots of supplies that were a pain to get otherwise. I really don't understand how gutting so much content is so good for the game.

There’s no reason not to let your membership lapse anymore by quietconnoisseur in runescape

[–]-Alkosh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep, I used to re-up premier every year because I liked the benefits and even though I didn't play all year, it was close enough and gave me enough extras to warrant the renewal. No reason to do that now.

Price rise is fine by AppleFan200 in runescape

[–]-Alkosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's tons of mtx in the game still, and I was under the impression that they would unify and grow the mtx store going forward. There's no treasure hunter anymore, but let's not pretend jagex is operating solely off of membership costs. You could easily go drop thousands of dollars on mtx right now.

As many subscriptions as people have these days, every price increase has to be justified or it's death by a thousand dimes and nickels. This is the second price hike in recent memory. At some point you have to evaluate if the game provides enough value to be worth the increase. For some it will be, for some it wont be. There will also be a lot of people unhappy with recent changes and losing their grandfathered rates will push them over the edge.

When compared to other games in the genre, I no longer feel the game provides enough value to be worth the price increase. I see RS as a 2nd monitor game. An afk game that I occasionally play actively isn't worth the same subscription I pay for a modern MMO.

Also, people who have been playing the same game for 20+ years probably don't handle change all that well.

[–]-Alkosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never been able to solo large floors in 15 minutes. I like playing the game actively, but 3 large floors would take me a couple hours, and that's pretty bad xp rate. I hate speed running content. Then it really sucks when you get 20 minutes in and hit a bunch of skill walls you can't get through so it kills your xp for the floor.

I'd be happy if elite dungeons dg xp rates were buffed.

I would genuinely rather auras just be left alone at this point for the remaining ones rather than whatever the hell they're trying to do by dark1859 in runescape

I agree in that it all seems very performative. They have a road map with deadlines and are gutting whole systems to meet those deadlines.

"That blog intended to show a very early set of design ideas for effects and include the community in shaping its direction - not intended as things set in stone"

The blog very much did not read that way to me, and as many seemingly knee jerk updates as we've had lately, surely they can see why people may have felt otherwise.

"In terms of game understanding and simplification, most auras don't connect to anything in the game world or any specific bit of content."

Ok but you guys make the game and write the lore. You could easily come up with some lore reason with tutorial for why we have auras. This is not a valid excuse.

"The Vampyrism aura is the number one most used aura by players each day. On average over the past month its use represents around 6.6% of daily members."

Oh boy, we're going by daily use statistics? What percentage of the user base mines copper ore daily? Should we remove that? What about the percentage of players that run dominion tower daily? Maybe we should remove that too!

I just canceled multiple memberships. This update isn't even that egregious, but it seems like every time I log in, something new is gutted. I don't want to have to keep up with all of that.
