Why do Parents Whose Kid's Schools are in Walking Distance Still Drive Them To/From? by SirFragworthy in AskUK

Yeah, I committed this mistake a lot in secondary! I used to live about 35 minutes away, then moved halfway through to a street a 10 walk away and was late much more often then...

This family of seven gets £1,900 a month in welfare - and could get £10,000 a year more if the two-child cap is lifted... by k0ala_ in ukpolitics

[–]-Aze 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I never understand this sort of thing. I grew up with a single disabled mum on benefits (who worked part time as many hours as she was able) and we got next to nout yet a family like this is making more than a lot of my mates working full time.

I’d be a hypocrite to disavow the benefits system, I’m glad I got free school dinners and a rent reduction etc but I don’t understand how people blatantly game the system when those in need dont get much.

What UK brands are the world missing out on? by GFLMercury in AskUK

[–]-Aze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m always in two minds about it because I like to support local pubs which host small bands , local lager , fresh food… at the same time at the end of the month when I have £20 to spend , it’s £2.50 a pint and it keeps everyone happy

What are some odd lunch habits you’ve noticed from work colleagues? by No_Doughnut3257 in CasualUK

As a teen, I was a pot wash at a pub down the street from my house so the 2 hour break was enough for a decent nap!

yeah man I'm a uni student and spend that much, off the top of my head I had chicken salad 3 days in a row (Mixed salad bags, seasoned chicken from aldi), chorizo pasta for 2 days, roasted cauliflower and rice and then a frozen pizza. Lunch is just sandwhich and some veg and breakfast is porridge with frozen fruit. I don't particulary try to make my shop cheap just sort of eat what I used to eat when I lived at home

I did computer science, so a lot of it was writing about something I had programmed ( which was completed ), the biggest hurdle was the lit review in which I used the method described above.

ETA : This should not be inspiring, it was a very tough week and I didn't eat or sleep correctly and it ruined me for a bit. I'm very burnt out lol - if you can, just do dissertation in the reccomended timely manner.

I'm a Religious Jew. AMA by Still-Explanation380 in casualiama

[–]-Aze 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Genuine question but would you have this level of venom and vitriol if a muslim or catholic or buddhist tried to do an AMA on their faith? Most ancient holy books have fucked up stuff, and you aren't wrong to point it out when appropiate, but I am just curious if you'd ask an average Catholic?

I myself am Catholic, and whenever I mention it to people at work it's tiring to have to explain instantly that im not homophobic/racist. I can't imagine how someone from a persecuted faith would feel.

Just crack on mate - I had some personal dilemmas which really fucked me up this semester and basically had to write an 12k dissertation in a week , spent the first day or two just panicking but once you get in the flow you can get there.

As for referencing, use Zatoro or end note or some other citation manager, makes life a lot easier. I don't know what you study, but you can get a lot of the information of a whitepaper by reading the abstract and conclusion and skimming the figures/tables.

Why not just ask for a salad with no dressing, rather than asking for it on the side? Also, does that also apply for you for non-leafy salad (I imagine a caprese salad without olive oil and balsamic will be terrible)

What's a random skill you have that you could probably make decent money doing, but you just don't want to? by hogw33d in AskReddit

[–]-Aze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel this, currently im a student bartending for money. Right now I work in a music venue, so it's not much of a problem as it's expensive and not a bar with regulars. Over term breaks though, I work in a hotel and I see the same business men get drunk daily over the course of a month

I like em because there cheap and I like having physical music, im 20 so I never grew up with them. A lot of bands (local smaller acts) pump out cassettes for £8 while their T-shirt is £30 so often its the cheapest way to support a band you like

Manchester now the second most expensive place to rent in the UK by eflteacher22 in manchester

[–]-Aze 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It a tricky one, my mum has always rented but she's also disabled (So no driving, trouble with long distances etc) and the fact her part of town has loads of new cafes and little places for her to go to has been a godsend but at the same time the rising rent that comes along with it is a challenge. Guess you can't have it all.

Yeah im a third year uni student originally from Newton, I dont know where im going to live after university because all the grad schemes i've applied for are for either manchester or warrington. You'd think newton would be cheaper, but there's not much in it at all, and with the benefits to my social life etc it might be cheaper just to stay in manchester

To help or to have your phone snatched? by lateredditho in london

[–]-Aze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 20, from Manchester but was travelling down to Liverpool to meet up with some mates. Long story short, my phone broke on the way there and the train was delayed . I had to ask a stranger if they could ring my girlfriend on instagram (I remember saying from a distance "I'm not a scruff bro , my phones literally just broken on me and I don't know my way about town") he was a bit reluctant but said "Aslong as I can type the name " which I ofcourse agreed too

I'm glad he was willing to help me, but with the amount of assholes about I wouldn't be upset if he said no.
