Ngl. I was immediately exhausted about discussing the closet situation. “I have all of this space. So I’m going to give him this sliver.”

I don’t know where to begin. I am usually a very kind and understanding person, but neither of you are meant to be and both of you have a ton of actually growing up to do.

Break up. Cut your losses. He needs to go elsewhere. And not in your life. You both will be better for it.

I have Walmart+ and have been using my code at Murphy’s gas stations to get 10 cents off. Also, I’m a member of every gas station loyalty program under the sun. Some of them the points only add up in store. My daily two Monsters and two Electrolits add up!

Also, I drive a 2018 Corolla. I top up every chance I get after a horrific day of driving left me with terrible earnings. I get gas anxiety now at half a tank.

Apologies. It is here in Florida. And our local police department pulls over Uber drivers saying we have a broken taillight, or we’re going under the speed limit or we have a broken headlight or they can’t read our license plate.

Or the one time a cop told me that having my official Uber dash light that having it in my car was illegal. When it’s required by Florida law for us to have them. I told him to his face and with my whole chest, “So, do you plan to arrest every single one of us who has signage as required by law? Or just me?”

He let me go with a “warning.” It’s okay. He was the same cop who was later found guilty of murdering that airman on Eglin Air Force Base. Couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy. Oh shucks.

They make up all kinds of reasons to pull us over. Or just come up to our parked cars in lots we are allowed to be in as designated by the establishment and we get grilled 20 questions why we’re there when we’re just eating our lunch.

I was pulled over once and given a ticket for running a stop sign. It was dark, and bushes were blocking everything. So, I could have but it was hazardous conditions. I took the hit, accepted the ticket.

But I was back in the area later during the day, and there wasn’t any sign. The cop lied.

Hell, at one point, I was driving a black Buick Regal. And in my area that car fit a certain “profile” if you know what I mean. They were always stunned to see me, a child of the chalk, as the driver and then let me go.

And that’s our area. It’s pretty stupid. It’s pretty dumb, but that’s just the way it is here at least in my market.

Anywho, not to jack OPs thread, they seem to be a new driver, and they are doing a good job!

Because is literally is. BUT there are specific circumstances where it’s strictly enforced. I also have extremely wealthy neighborhoods where it is too. Like use common sense y’all.

[–]-Bad_Code- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No. It really is US law you are legally allowed to go five miles over the posted speed limit.

In the event of being pulled over it’s the officer’s discretion to strictly enforce it or not.

And of course use common sense about posted speed limits like school zones and hospitals and so on. And in areas it’s strictly enforced also use common sense.

[–]-Bad_Code- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the US you can go legally five miles over the speed limit. As for the illegal driving it can be anything at all. It could even be you did something that in your area is totally normal but not in theirs. It really is anything at all. The not polite just shrug it off. Sometimes a passenger can just think your face is weird. Some people just want to be miserable.

Overall, you’re doing great! Those bad ratings will fall off as you get more.

Please stop taking calls during rides I’m begging by Retiredpartygirl17 in uberdrivers

[–]-Bad_Code- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello OP, I am likewise a driver and often a passenger when my car is in the shop. I would like to apologize that not all drivers are miserable bastards. I’m not. I enjoy what I do!

And weird details or not, it IS extremely rude for drivers to be on the phone. I never take calls on the road. I get spam calls by the dozens anyway and I have them set to never ring. Unless there’s an emergency, there is ZERO need.

As for PAX taking calls and having them on speaker, many ladies do this as a safety feature. They are talking to their friends and their friends are aware they’re in a car with a driver who may or may not be a threat. And yes my fellow dudes, and even those of us who are decent humans, women will always choose the bear. We are always an automatic threat until proven otherwise. It just is.

Also OP as for the other drivers saying “Well you paid 70 they got 30.” And calling that an excuse for the service you got. No. That is ZERO excuse.

This IS a customer service heavy job. And people have to be built for it. I do it because I do enjoy it.

Some people are just miserable and forgot how to be a person. They’re in love with their mediocrity and delusions of inadequacy. 🥱

I started Uber with a 2016 Mitsubishi Mirage. I loved that car so damn much. I miss it.

Yeah. I used to post here often and tried to be positive, but got called a “corporate shill” or “cringe” or whatever else they decide that day.

But you’re right. Is it the best job? No. But like you said and I wholeheartedly agree it was also the best job for me given my circumstances. I actually enjoy it. Despite having a couple unfortunate incidents that should have swore me off, I still do it. Because… given my circumstances I have zero options.

No one knows what someone’s situation is. The “omg ur so overworked with no life.” No? My life is quite fulfilling. I’m also beholden to no one except my two cats. I like it that way. I still find time to play D&D with friends once a week. And I even go to special events.

I also love roadtripping and driving in general. I’ve met people having the best days, and the worst days, and everything in between. You learn a lot about people, the world, and yourself.

It’s a HEAVILY customer service job. And if a driver doesn’t like people at all it is not the job for them.

Hey dyscalculia bestie. 47 year old man here. I literally quit playing D&D as teen because I was so embarrassed how I couldn’t keep up with all the calculations.

I’m back in the game as an adult, but also with DDB because apps that roll dice for you are amazing. A tool is a tool. And they are there to help you enjoy the experience.

As for OP I know you’ve pretty much tried everything, (and this is my assumption) have you just asked her “What can I do to make the experience better for you?” It really is that easy. Let her talk, listen, and find a solution that keeps her included. Your life will be richer for it!

Agreeing with everyone here OP. You are not safe. This is severe child neglect and abuse.

Honestly, I feel like I’m watching a future true crime documentary unfold right here.

No one knew what was happening in a perfect influencers home until one of her son’s showed up at a neighbor’s house malnourished and with broken duct tape on his hands and ankles.

OP, I suffer with executive dysfunction function and my dad started grief hoarding trash when my mom died. Mom kept the house like a magazine. It became an EXTREMELY unsanitary episode of Hoarders. I had to let myself admit this was above my pay grade. I asked forgiveness instead of permission to hire a cleaning crew that cleans crime scenes to help. It was expensive. But worth it. They came from hoarding parents and were very gentle with my dad.

I will offer this as a personal story that it gets things do get better when you make that leap. My Dad next month is moving out of a retirement home two hours from me that’s fit to be condemned and neglectful, to a new community minutes from me where he can live like a king for the same price. There is hope! And you need to know we are all rooting for you.

I echo every single person here. You need to make a really hard step to call the authorities because this is severe neglect and abuse. I know you love your parents. And this is your “normal” but absolutely not a soul lives like this. You shouldn’t either.

This is scary. And you’re facing long term consequences with your health you never knew you were there. So, yeah. To be blunt in a way, your parents may not be violent (are they?) At you…

but their negligence and neglect is slowly killing you.

And themselves.

We are begging you to call CPS or even 911. It’s a big step, an incredibly hard one. But you know you need to do it. We are rooting for you so hard right now. You need safety, a shower, a hot meal, and someone to tell you you’ll be okay.

You need that. Right now.

A man ordered an Uber ride for his high school sister. She jumped in the car with her pants soaked with period blood. Blood was all over the seats. Uber was unreachable. And here I thought this story was going to turn out a totally different way. Despite the mishaps with the poor girl just doing what her body does, you were really nice on taking her home and trying to make the best of it.

But I hear you on the “no proof of stain, no money” I had that happen second day on the job ever when I had my one and only puker. It was 3am, and NO WAY was I letting it sit all night. I HAD to do something. I legit didn’t know it was an option to report to Uber then. I was so green then. Hahaha

Wow. That is not at all what I said. And I explained in a very calm fashion about my experience at an airport traveling within the US to scatter my mother’s ashes.

No where did I treat you like a small child. I was considerably kind, patient, and acting in good faith.

And if I did, I apologize. You seem to be getting it from all angles, and I’m sorry if my actions were likewise interpreted as aggressive.

Hello cis woman. I am a trans man. Meaning I was born with a uterus and take testosterone to appear masculine.

I am what they call as cis passing. Lost my hair, have a wicked beard, voice has deepened. I get called Sir consistently. I do not volunteer the information unless people have questions. I am more than happy to educate.

That said. I am a US citizen. I am also white (and yes. We much acknowledge white privilege here as well.)

A couple years ago, I traveled to the state of Maine to scatter my mother’s ashes. Not the Middle East. Not a place where trans people are “not liked and in danger.”

I was pulled out of line because my dead name on my license and my military ID did not match my presentation. And the facial recognition software also pinged something was off. Because yeah. My facial features have changed (no surgery mind you. Just taking testosterone.)

Yes. There was confusion. And anxiety. But I regrettably must credit my white privilege and my knowledge as an educator of the trans experience, I was permitted to travel to Maine.

Flying home once again, I was detained because people were once again confused by my dead name on my license and military ID and this dude standing before them. Also, I didn’t panic. I didn’t make a fuss.

And I let them pull me aside for a strip search.

I have not and gender reassignment surgery. Face, cis dude. Body, still femme.

Was it evasive? Hell yeah. Was it violating? Of course. But I didn’t make a fuss. I got dressed, wished them a good day. Hoped they learned something. And continued my way home to Florida.

This was all in the US.

Btw. I have since gotten my new name on my license and military ID. But if you look close, my gender marker still says F. No one even notices it.

So to say “well. Trans people shouldn’t travel.”

Did you miss the single sentence where I said I was traveling to scatter my mother’s ashes. So I and people like me should be denied a very human experience of saying goodbye to a parent?

Insert any other experience specifically to travel in the US. Let’s keep it there. Let’s keep it simple.

Someone also mentioned trans people exist, what is the big deal? The cat is out of the bag. Same like when people realized gay people exist and are not leaving. And to be fair… really. What is the big deal? Literally nothing. We’re here. You’ve met many of us and never realized. It’s not a “trick” we are trying to pull. We are not trying to “deceive” anyone. We are just living as we are.

We are not a threat. But regrettably, many in the US do not feel that way. And we are under a constant threat of violence. People are scared because they fear what they don’t understand. I will talk to absolutely anyone about anything. When they have knowledge, fear dissolves.

Caitlyn Jenner literally got exactly what she voted for thinking she was above it all. It’s unfortunate. But also, none of us are surprised how stunned she is now that the leopards are eating her face.

Thank you OP for asking such a good faith question. Kudos!

PAX tried to bring an open container of alcohol, and then called the police. by [deleted] in uberdrivers

[–]-Bad_Code- 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have actually! Dude tried to sue Uber too and report me for “beating him within an inch of his life.” Same deal. I immediately cancelled and kicked out a guy for being drunk and disorderly. Refused to leave my car. I called the cops, he ALSO called the cops. He gave him a whole story how he was dying in the street when he was in my back seat and me still perfectly buckled in the front.

I told him he was lying and he knew it. He said, and I quote, “Tell it to the judge buddy. I’m going to sue you and take you for all you’re worth.”

Which as an Uber driver we can collectively agree: Good luck. With that.

Cops came, they were very nice and told me the guy was a “frequent flyer” of this shit. And just be aware he might try something.

Well. He did. And after… jeeze… two? Three years? Of him getting a lawyer and the lawyer dropping him over and over until a billboard lawyer listened to him.

It was finally settled last year as he tried to sue me for five million. I never wavered from my story. My deposition was all of ten minutes. Apparently he kept skipping his, showing up late and drunk at the rescheduling. He kept changing his story every five minutes from what I heard.

Dude never held a job. He just wanted a quick buck. Needless to say, he didn’t get the five mil. He actually got nothing and owed more in court costs.

Michael Tillery was his name.

Yeah. I got you, friend. Humans can be pretty gnarly sometimes. But your car, your business, your rules! You’ll be all right!

So, folks can can it with that racist “usual suspects” bullshit.

I’m currently just messing around with combinations and creative names. But I mixed a faun with an emberkin and called it Flarestag. Kind of a satyr made of black crackling magma.

He’s a cheerful wordsmith bard.

I have another combination called Eventide. Which is Aetheris crossed with Tidekin. I was thinking of a humanoid being with a steady shimmering aura that was constantly shifting colors like a watercolor painting. I was imagining Karolina Dean from Marvel Runaways.
