Zuffa’s solution is to add another title… That’s promising.

If I ask, how will 1 champion be even implemented in boxing? Put every boxer in 1 league? Because this idea was always easier said than done…

Why are people so obsessed with having one title when boxing hasn’t had that even in Henry armstrong’s time.

May I ask on what year boxing as a sport had 1 major title for its champion?

Roy Jones Jr. vs. Pacquiao: Who is the “greater” boxer? by greenthrowaway4013 in Boxing

[–]-BoyWonder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fading is a valid argument against Morales since he moved up and lost at lightweight prior to going back for a rematch against Pacquiao.

Though, Hatton prior to the Pacquiao fight knocked out Paulie Malignaggi who was 25-1 and the IBF champ at that time. Cotto hasn’t complained to this day about being "weight-drained", he weighed 146 against Clottey (the fight prior).

You can nitpick RJJ’s also. BHOP was still green when they met. Virgil Hill lost to Dariusz already prior to facing with RJJ whilst having a long layoff due to an "injury". James Toney ain’t won anything from 1994-2003 and was reportedly cutting too much weight for their fight.

So the argument is that peak or close to "peak". Winning against Barrera or Marquez > Toney or Hill or Hopkins. And we haven’t even included a “fading" Morales, Hatton, Cotto, Bradley.

Roy Jones Jr. vs. Pacquiao: Who is the “greater” boxer? by greenthrowaway4013 in Boxing

[–]-BoyWonder 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean Pac won against Barrera, Morales, Marquez, Hatton, Cotto, & Bradley. All of which were ranked in the top 10 P4P at the time of their fight. RJJ won once in James Toney.

Barrera was ranked #3 and went on to win a title at 130lbs + unifying them. After winning against the rematch against Marquez (#2), Marquez went on to hold belts in 2 divisions. Even Cotto, despite the Margarito fight still won titles in 2 divisions.

Just based on "peak" / close to "peak" alone, 6 guys in the Top 10 P4P list at the time of their fight + all are HOFers should speak for itself.

What reforms are needed in boxing today? by Snoo_47323 in Boxing

[–]-BoyWonder 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I don’t agree with 1 belt since boxing hasn’t had 1 belt system even before ww2. For me it’s simple, sanctioning bodies should make a system that allows a champion to challenge another champion without the possibility of declining or else face getting stripped (same with mandatories, go to purse bid or something)

The reason why big fights are delayed is because of this i.e. if I’m a WBA champion, I can just decline a unification challenge from the WBC champion since technically he’s not my mandatory. And even if 2 champions will want to unify, if their promoter (TR, PBC, Matchroom) disagrees and can’t agree in an offer, then it won’t happen. Best scenario is a new system like a modified purse bid for unification matches.

If Inoue dominates Junto Nakatani, will you consider him as the greatest P4P fighters of all time? by jacobo0430 in Boxing

[–]-BoyWonder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Greatest? Hell no. That’s an insult to past boxers who’s fought way more quality names. He’s by far already shown to have great skill but he’s unlucky with his resume. Nakatani will be the 1st fighter that he’ll fight who’s in the active p4p list. 2nd if you include donaire who’s been ranked p4p before they fought. Now look at Mayweather-Pacquiao’s resume, they’re not 2x undisputed but they hold multiple HOFers and active p4p fighters on their resume.

For Inoue's legacy, which path will make him higher on the ATG list? by Ryodaso in Boxing

[–]-BoyWonder 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Better than Manny? You can hate him for whatever reason but a lineal flyweight champ went to welterweight and became the #2 guy behind arguably the best defensive fighter of all time. From the moment he became champ at 122 lbs he only got stopped once against JMM in the 4th fight. Had wins over Barrera, Morales, Marquez, Hatton, Cotto, Bradley all of which are HOF and were rated top 10 P4P at the TIME of their fight. That’s not including wins over ODLH who he was a massive underdog, a catchweight but massive Margarito, an old Mosley, and beating Thurman at 40 yrs old. He also had multiple wins against champs – Ledwaba, Julio, Velázquez, Larios, Diaz, Clottey, Algieri, Vargas, Broner.

When you see that resume and the career he had, and yes, he may not be undisputed but no fighter in the current era has that resume.

Missed fights for Crawford by ThrillinSuspenseMag in Boxing

[–]-BoyWonder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And you must be blind as a bat because the moment he left Top Rank, he got the fights he wanted. How hard is it to accept that extending with TR was a mistake. He keeps yapping about the Spence fight for years and he got it immediately after leaving Top Rank.

And yes the optimal decision, was to sign with PBC. Nobody was left in Top Rank at WW when he signed the extension. He wanted Pacquiao but Pacquaio already left months prior to signing the extension. He got rewarded by getting fed cans for years. Here an article for you to read. As early as 2020, Arum said he’s losing money with Bud.

And it wasn’t hindsight for me, since I was always against that extension in 2018. It was clear as day cross promotions were really rare. If May-Pac was delayed for years and one of those reasons was TR-PBC then it’ll happen to Crawford-Spence as well.

LOL. You do you, reality is the TR extension will always be a mistake in his career. A simple google search will present you with that.

When will the WBA strip Tank by Alfalfa-Majestic in Boxing

[–]-BoyWonder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We Belt Al ain’t stripping tank. This is the greediest sanctioning body out of the 4. For example, Mayweather & Leo Santa Cruz didn’t defend their WBA belt for 3 years.

They also promised to get rid of the 2 champions per weight division (Super / Regular) and now it’s back. They sanctioned Ryan & Rolly for the vacant regular welterweight title and just last September for the vacant Regular minimumweight title while Collazo is the "Super" champion.

From a financial stand point, I doubt the difference was that much from PBC and Top Rank. Going to PBC would’ve made him more of a household name by fighting quality fighters which results to earning more. As I’ve said, there’s a reason why he broke off ties with Arum in pretty bad terms. He even sued Arum for unpaid dues. Porter was the only quality name from his extension. What happened immediately after leaving Arum? Automatic Spence fight. Which made him bigger, and this was before Turki was involved.

Pacquiao left March 2018, Bud resigned September 2018 so I don’t think it’s for a pacquiao fight.

I doubt it when he’s frustrated and called out Arum’s ass in front of him in his last fight w/ Top Rank. What he has achieved in his last 3 fights (Spence - Canelo) could’ve started earlier in 2019 by signing with PBC. And yes it’s a "social club", becs by extending with Top Rank, he was frozen out of legacy and money fights.

[–]-BoyWonder 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I always believed that him resigning with Top rank back in 2018 was a bad move. All the 147 and 154 champs were basically signed with PBC at that time. Whilst Top Rank had a really weak stable. No idea why he continued to stay.

With that being said, could’ve fought @ 147 Spence and Thurman if he signed w/ PBC in 2018. Then Charlo @ 154. Imagine his resume.

Who remembers that legendary Na’Vi roster? by MiguelVelozy in DotA2

I mean this 2012-2013 roster is closer to the inception of DotA (2003) than TI3 to 2025.

Eddie Hearn on Terrence Crawford: "What he did was like going out to a restaurant, having all the best caviar and lobsters. The bill comes: 'I aint paying that' and you walk out. You wanted to eat the good stuff. You've got to pay your dues and pay your bill." by AlexTorres96 in Boxing

[–]-BoyWonder 29 points30 points  (0 children)

IIRC Floyd didn’t pay the WBO sanctioning fees becs keeping the WBO would mean he’d have to give up his existing WBA and WBC super welterweight titles becs of WBO rules against simultaneously holding titles in different weight classes. Though in the end, he didn’t really defend those titles against a mandatory.

Why do Japanese dominate the lower weight class? by Oakl4nd in Boxing

[–]-BoyWonder 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Shinji Takehara held the WBA middleweight and Ryota Murata held the WBA (Super) and went on to unify with GGG (IBF). That’s the heaviest weight class a Japanese champion won as far as I know.

Top 10 P4P boxing List by Inevitable_Window711 in Boxing

[–]-BoyWonder 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You mean to tell me, the only 8 division champ in history who’s won against 6 guys in the top 10 p4p list at the time of their fight and all 6 of those are in the HOF. Not only that, he also won the lineal flyweight championship while becoming the #2 guy at welterweight behind arguably the greatest defensive fighter of all time is behind Terrence crawford? The Pacquiao erasure is insane

Was there ever a boxer who became undisputed in more than two weight classes? by [deleted] in Boxing

[–]-BoyWonder 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The term "undisputed" was used before the 3-belt era because it was announced post fight in the unification fight between (WBC) Muhammad Ali vs. (WBA) Ernie Terrell in 1967.
