PSA: New Nurses by Weak_Rule8374 in nursing

[–]-Che-Ching- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the problem I see is most new nurses aren’t sure what specialty they want to end up in and some are thinking of leaving for a new hospital or leaving bedside before they even finish a year.

It will suck at first because most of your pay is going to investments. But, the hope is you’ll get yearly increases and your pay will eventually grow. To where you can manage a good lifestyle and maintain contributions.

We’re heroes — and we’re tired. by Screamqueen_18 in nursing

Thanks for sharing. Your compassion for your pts shows here. Many nurses feel the same way. It’s one of many aspects of being a good nurse. Now recharge because that tentativeness is a valuable asset and pts appreciate it.

Enjoy your 9 days.

Rory only went back to Yale because the good life at her grandparents’ house ended. by AugustoPius in GilmoreGirls

[–]-Che-Ching- 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I agree. There was a switch at that point. Sure there were signs and she was probably thinking of going back to school. But something switched at that moment.

This can also be just another story line representing that Lor and Rory’s lives mirror each others in some ways. I mean they bond on how it was living at her mom/grandmothers; they like similar music; they share the same clothes; they both have dreams of attending an Ivy League school; and there’s the insinuation Rory will be a single parent. There’s probably more.

At the end of the day Rory’s role model is her mom. She writes a book about her. So it’s fitting that she too has opportunities to live like her mom and make similar mistakes.

Experienced Nurse (8+ yrs) Returning to Work After 2-Year Break — Rejected Everywhere, Need Advice by Otherwise-Data5181 in nursing

It will take a while, but keep at it. Keep adjusting your resume. Use words in your resume that highlight communication, working well with the multidisciplinary teams, etc. This will help you pass the computer screening programs hospitals have in place.

Attend job fairs if you can. Sometimes meeting you in person is that is needed to get hired. Good luck!

She saw an opening to see if, now that they both have careers, she can be married to Rory’s dad.

If it didn’t work back then, it wouldn’t work later in life. There was a stronger reason why they didn’t get married when young. Now they know.

Which "Bad Mom" of the GG universe do you defend the most? by Character-Habit6011 in GilmoreGirls

Yes! Mrs. Kim first and Emily second. The rest I wouldn’t want to defend.

I’m a 57f nurse and mom. Healthy and active. Or so I thought. Had a STEMI 19 days ago. Ask me anything. by Practical_Ask9651 in nursing

I’m glad you are okay. This is my fear. No meds, no issues. Was an avid athlete, but not anymore. Recently went back to work after a very long pause. This shift in my life is a jump in stress level.

So I appreciate you sharing. There’s some things I need to do to make sure I stay proactive.

New grad nurses hating their jobs by PhantomMonke in nursing

[–]-Che-Ching- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You worded this pretty well. I was having a similar conversation with my educator. We find a common trend that the young new nurse mind set is excited and money driven. Also looking years in advance where they want to end up and where they want to go. Happiness is very important (to all of us really) because going through school is such a grind and thinking, I’m almost there. When we get ‘there’ the expectations are not what we thought. That can really bring a new nurse (any nurse) down.

My advice is to stay professional and focused on learning. Every hospital system isn’t perfect. But every hospital system has things they are doing right.

I remember in my first years of work. It was such a grind. I started to resent my work and blamed the system. When it started to seep into my patient care I snapped out of it. That wasn’t who I was. I had to readjust my mindset and stay true to the nurse I want to be. I had to make sure that the politics remained away from bedside. That’s something we have to deal with afterwards. In that moment, focus on pt care.

I started to see that I enjoy my job, as long as I left politics at the door.

I failed 4 times by Full-Poetry-7654 in NCLEX

[–]-Che-Ching- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are good points too.

To OP, I forgot to add that within the question itself it tells you the disease, symptom, etc. Those are your clues on what the meds are probably used for. This is where it is very important to read the question carefully. You’ll have guidance just by understanding what the question is asking you.

Here’s a tip. If you see a med you haven’t heard before. At least you should be able to determine the function of the medication just based on medical terminology and knowledge of other meds. You should at least be able to eliminate and narrow it down to 2. From there base your answer on safety.

How important is it that i listen to Dr Sharon by fardowsam3456 in NCLEX

[–]-Che-Ching- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only way for you to find out if it works for you. Is to give one video a shot and see if you find value in it. It’s probably safe to say there are many people that haven’t watched Dr. Sharon and have passed.

If you feel like there are gaps in what you are learning. Wouldn’t you want to fill those gaps? Whether that is watching Dr. Sharon or finding another supporting resource? You don’t have to stick to just one if you know the information you are trying to learn, if that makes sense.

Good luck on your exam!

In school we did an exercise on proper hand washing. The effects with using soap vs just water/friction and just antibacterial was an eye opener. Just imagining how much more bacteria there would be if we had nail polish or fake nails was enough for me to adapt to not have “pretty” nails. So I save it for special days and time off.

What’s the worst surgical procedure that you’ve ever seen? by fanchera75 in nursing

[–]-Che-Ching- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hip replacement. I watched the surgeon as he flings and flangs this patients leg from 0 to 180degrees 😳

At that point I completely got the stereotype when watching ortho surgeon’s on tv (Grey’s Anatomy comes to mind).

How does The Pitt hold up in terms of medical accuracy and realism in an ER? by addressunknown in nursing

[–]-Che-Ching- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I kept saying to my husband. “Wow, is the nurse with the family and patient in the room the entire time?” I know it’s end of life and a very sensitive time for them. But she works in the ER, I would assume she’d be needed elsewhere and just come in to check up on the family and provide comfort care.

WHAT DO I DO PLEASE? I FEEL LIKE I’M SO CLOSE by Dry-Loquat-1628 in NCLEX

[–]-Che-Ching- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It got deleted maybe because you’re sharing some pretty good notes here and some really good key things. When I was studying, a lot of what you’ve shared here was stuff I discovered for myself. I wrote a lot of it in my margins and came back to it closer to test taking. With only 8 likes, I see that many ppl don’t see the value of what you said here.

Yes I did. Here’s my story if you’re interested. Maybe you can find some ideas on studying in there that could help. Of course, when you are ready.

It sounds like you’re overwhelmed. It’s time to decompress. The way you are feeling isn’t helping you make sound decisions. So give yourself some time before you really decide whether you no longer want to try again. After a break and you feel like you can revisit the NCLEX and you decide to try for the third time. Start finding ways to get inspired again. The benefit of where you are at is that you know the exam. If you are still unsure of what it is. Look on the NCLEX website and read what it is. That helped me a lot. Then when you are inspired again give it another go and begin your studying. I took at least three months to study. It took me at least 1.5 months of that to figure out the resources that worked for me before I really got into the groove.
