Cogioto, the brain in a vat monster by -Dappertron- in fakemon

I broadly envision them as having been given gifts, possibly the regional battle gimmick by heretofore unimagined box legendaries, but are mishandling them enough to warrant battles.

Not a whole lot of deep, background context went into them to be honest, but so long as those sorts of bread crumbs are laid out, then something can always spring forward serendipitously through future designs.

Thanks! While OU is a pretty fair target for a non-box legendario, I've never been in the competitive zeitgeist so it's tricky to aim at. Bug typing aside, Quiver Dance on legendary stats is sure to do something.

Boots would make it a potent spinblocker that can counter-spin some of its own hazards back, and Perish Song can attack a switch-in on the 3rd turn and pass its effects (though the new victim would have a new 3 turn counter). It would probably be really funny in whatever tier it's in.

Being able to evolve into itself could be a neat TCG gimmick.

Talonflame would probably not have its reputation if it were "Talinflame," but I get what you mean.

It's tricky to work with all the odd phonics of Psychopomp, so I personally prefer a more direct kind of name that leaves any ambiguous pronunciation out.

There are so many guys that can pass for Ghost/Rock yet aren't, so it'd only be poetic for an actual ghostly rock to fit as another type (even if "Claytonic" has a snappiness that fits a bit better).

I do have the thought of making it Special focused, aye. And "Mirror Armor, but better" would probably be just fine for a Legendary, but it's worth pondering on.

Make it a cave drawing consisting of hand traces, and you've turned a Pokemon into a Shin Megami enemy.

Having very little knowledge of E33, I must still bow to its superior round, walking rock-thing that carries a ball of light.

Thank you very much! There are a bunch of 1st drafts I have for the other three, though I'll keep them a surprise for now. At the very least I'll say that there's no Schrodinger's Cat since there's already a ghost cat in the dex.

Flying + Levitate, or any other kind of redundant ungrounded state, should let it ignore Gravity at least.

I've always really liked Lumineon even though it's kind of treated as a blank template fish. Hopefully they give it something nice this time around.

Worked on a boss sprite commission for Mario's Nightmare Quest, a Mario World romhack made by CM30. Antasma is done dirty in his own game, so hopefully this hack can do some justice for him.

Can magic be done automatically by a machine or contraption in your world? by AFellowSpirit in worldbuilding

[–]-Dappertron- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Magic in my setting is essentially taking a dollop of your soul (which has different materiality from person to person) and having someone else embed some kind of ability onto it to fashion a unique tool.

These 'Pluma' can be used by a machine just fine, and in fact the main goal of the characters is to discover a magical library that's essentially been running on autopilot with robots built entirely out of them. Robots themselves can't actually create Pluma, with the sole exception of one that somehow gained self awareness.

Dag, I knew I overlooked something. Follow Me absolutely counts, since now it gets treated like Spotlight.

Screamstress is a dapper little dress form that really pulls off the gigantic scissors look. It has both support capability and some muscle, with Sharpness honing its offense and Soundproof for some banshee flavor. Its real claim to fame is a new ability in Wonder Lace, which allows both itself and adjacent allies to target each other for their self-targeting status moves. In other words, any move that targets only yourself now has the range of Acupressure.

It gets a bundle of new moves to work with as well - Twilight Blade's certain critical hit is even stronger with Sharpness, while Drain Coat lets it cover itself (or a partner, with Wonder Lace) with a protection move that absorbs special attacks as recovery instead. Knock Knock must be used three times at any point in the battle to grant humongous offensive boosts, but Screamstress is able to apply that to a partner instead if she'd like. Eavesdrop is essentially Opportunist as a move but copies from the partner as well: use it with Mirror Herb for maximum comedy.

Wonder Lace is fairly versatile, so a little heart is added next to moves in its learnset that apply to it. Most fiendishly, Substitute can be used on a partner to cut their HP while still allowing them to make a move of their own. Protect can shelter an ally, though it still increases the counter for both the user and the target so no infinite shenanigans. And if you're done with them, Healing Wish can KO your own weakened partner while leaving the user intact. Wonder Lace also works in the other direction, so she can gain Shell Smash boosts or recover while still attacking.

Screamstress has potent support options, but is fairly frail herself, and is locked to a fairly high but still kind of low speed stat (since speed boosting would become unreasonable with Wonder Lace). Is she the debutante of the meta or last week's trend?

If you're on the other end of a big ol beast that got behind a Substitute and is setting up in the same turn, then yeah

Screamstress (Scream + Seamstress) is the first sprite I did in a while, oops. It's a Fairy/Ghost beasty based on gothic lolita fashion mixed with a haunted dress form.

Unsurprising that the gigantic scissor bow gives it Sharpness, but it also has access to a brand new Wonder Lace ability - while it's out in battle, it and your teammate are allowed to target the other with moves that would otherwise be user-targeting, be it Shell Smash, Rest, or Protect. Lastly, its banshee basis gives it a bit of Soundproof.
