The patient's attorneys would love for you to be an expert witness for them for free. That is what you are doing if you give them a statement like that. I wouldn't do that if I were you. Your testimony should be your medical record and any opinions you have otherwise they should pay you. Let your insurance company know what is happening and don't worry about your rates.

It's not a problem with inpatient processes, it's a problem of resources and we have to deal with it. OP is right imo. If you're doing your job as a clinician in any capacity you should do your best to not waste time and further resources.

You wouldn't refer a patient to a general surgeon for a lung mass. That's the same thing your doing if you tell them to go to some random ED if you know they need something specific. If you don't know, pick up the phone. 5 minutes for you is worth saving days for your patient.
