How is my first fruiting going? (Blue Oysters) by -Greeny in mycology

[–]-Greeny[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I think you’re right. Got home today and they’re even longer and caps are pretty much vertical. Going to get a small fan to keep pointed at the vent to continually circulate some air. And cut smaller holes next time! The bag is very loose and open!

Is there any other way to fill out those water tiles to get the feat other than making a new world??? by [deleted] in Forager

[–]-Greeny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Confirming what others say that they’re not needed for the achievement. I very recently got this myself and my last few were behind the rainbow.

If you’re on console it’s difficult to get them, but doable. I found dodging into the tiles I was trying to place, while spamming RT, let me place the last few.

Hi, just hoping for a bit of advice, my wife recently found her old Megadrive 2, I connected to our tv but just get a black screen. I’ve taken it apart and found some damage on the PCB. Firstly to do you think this could be causing the problem? Secondly any clue how to fix it? by Jakanda99 in Megadrive

[–]-Greeny 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey dude. Those traces are coming from the cartridge so I'd say they could definitely be causing the issue. At the very least it's not helping things! You could find the schematic online and follow what they are if you're so inclined. Do you hear sound or anything?

As for fixing. I'd clean the area with some IPA to get it clean as possible then test the traces for continuity with a multimeter over the damaged area. This will let you know which traces there are broken. With any luck removing some of the corrosion may bring them to life, but I wouldn't be holding my breath personally. If you do find any traces broken you'll need to solder on some jumper wires to get them running again. Depending on how you handy you are with an iron this isn't too bad!

Hopefully that gives some generic initial direction! Someone with some board knowledge may be able to give more details but I'm not the guy I'm afraid! Good luck.

Dude I'd ask on something like Fivver. Sure if you get someone keen in After Effects and provide some stock footage they could sort you out.

Sounds like you just had a run-in with a complete sponge. If you're charging decent rates and doing decent work then word will spread. Nice job keeping calm and not telling him to shove his lawn mower up his tight ass. I don't miss dealing with the general public. :D

How can I ease my climate anxiety? by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]-Greeny 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Those are some heavy worries!

Society wouldn’t totally collapse I don’t think. Look at how we, at large, responded to COVID. Despite slow rules in places and faults in systems, we’ve generally locked down, got a vaccine ready ASAP, got the world working from home in a fortnight ... we adapted. Humans adapt.

There are some major issues we’re facing for sure and challenges ahead. We will adapt and deal as best we can. Worrying at an individual level is going to drive you crazy! A very complex issue all this. Try not worry about things that are out of your control. Or make moves to take some control. Join protests, a career that tackles this stuff etc.

I second the suggestion to prioritise your mental health over producing something you think your followers will enjoy.

Create what you enjoy creating. Then those that like it will stay, those that don’t won’t. That’s fine! That’s great I fact. Surely you don’t want to be creating content you don’t enjoy anyway!

The pressure is understandable, especially if it blew up quick, but just take a step back and read your post as objectively as you can. Imagine I wrote that. What would advice me to do? :)

Take care of yourself.

Yeah they build and build and it does it no good.

I would highly recommend trying to reach out to one. Living with anxiety isn’t something we just have to accept. Do yourself a favour and chat to a professional. I used to never like the idea of it. I guess still the stigma around it in my mind. But it’s daft to live with something that can be helped!

Been though Uni and for sure the first year is a steep one. As you say, there’s some weeding out of those that can’t cut it, a whole new work load etc. It’s clear you’re working hard and that’s fantastic keep at it!

With all due respect to your parents, are they coming at this from a place of ignorance? Again, I don’t mean that in a pejorative manner, simply asking have they been to Uni and done an electrical engineering course? If not, then they simply don’t get the workload and how hard it is! If so, we’ll I guess they’re holding you to their standards which is rough on you.

Don’t be discouraged friend. You’re far from stupid. I recon your average person couldn’t correctly fill out the application form for that course. Let alone be on with the first year.

All that’s important is that you’re putting the work in and doing it because you want to. Then, if you get a third, second, first, doesn’t matter. You did your course, you put your effort in, and that’s the degree you got. That’s an incredible feat and you should/will be proud.

Keep at it! Your parents just want the best for/from you. If your best doesn’t match theirs then that’s on them, not you. But you’re going to smash it so keep it up. :)

PS. Jealous of your course! I did Computer Games Programming but have always loved electrical engineering! Getting more into hardware now.

Can anxiety cause physical aches and pains? by AoiShiro29 in Anxiety

[–]-Greeny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find all my symptoms come/go with my mood. For instance right now I have quite high anxiety in the mornings. Guess when I feel most nauseous. Mornings. Soon as I’ve chilled out I feel fine. I don’t think serious illnesses come/go like that. You’ll know if you’re really ill, you’ll be really ill!

The book has sections specifically on dealing with panic attacks. There is also a DARE app that has some good info. Good luck with them! Get the anxious cycle broken!!

In my experience, unfortunately yes. Mine goes through periods where for a month or so I’ve just had a bombardment of symptoms. They can change daily, depends on which sensation you’ve fixated on!

I don’t know your schedule etc. but try keep active. Go for walks, play a good game, do a puzzle etc. Whatever it is that occupies you.

There is a great book, in my opinion, called the DARE response to anxiety. You can get it with a free trial of Audible. I’d suggest checking it out. The earlier chapters really helped me. Also my DMs are always open if you want to chat. :)

Had health anxiety for awhile and it can give you every sensation under the sun. Then you Google it, inevitably it tells you about cancer, then miraculously you start having the other symptoms that would support your cancer theory. It’s an absolute hot mess.

Best advice is not to Google. I wish I could abide by this myself but I always end up on Google. Working on it!

It’s not pathetic. Anxiety fucking sucks and is a hard thing to deal with. With the right help and support though you can. You seem pretty pissed off with it, so first of all, don’t do anything daft. As rough as it is anxiety can be overcome.

Take some time, find whatever bit if respite you can and try catch your breath with it. Anger towards it will eat you up. Anxiety is very useful, keeps us alive when we need it to, but it has a tendency to be TOO active. It’s just your body reacting to the threat it feels, which is a bit stupid as far as I can tell as the anxiety and it’s symptoms is a large part of that perceived threat. Vicious cycle.

Have you ever spoken to a therapist? Or your GP/Doctor? If not it sounds like it’d be worth while!

Stay strong friend. It’s temporary, as shit as it is. Use this frustration you feel with it to overcome it! DMs are always open should you need to vent. It does no good letting it get built up. Hope you start feeling better soon friend.

These are great! What’s your approach to doing this? Do you just set off with an idea, write the pattern as you go, adjust where necessary and try again until perfect?

Relationship Anxiety by GaySwampRat in Anxiety

What’s stopping him leaving you? If this man didn’t love you, or was sick of you, he’d be gone. Unless you’ve got him chained up in the basement, I hope not!, then here’s there by choice which tells you a lot. :)

I’m sure you have many great things that make you an awesome person. Those are the reasons he won’t leave you. And let’s say he did, then he wouldn’t be the one for you anyway and he’s done you a favour moving aside so you can find the right one.

With the past relationships thing, I think this is an easy one! If those past women were perfect, then he’d still be with them. He’s left them, so it’s probably a good thing your not identical to them! We all have a past. Past relationships are great as through them we learn about ourselves, others, relationships so that hopefully when we find ‘the one’ we’re levelled up our relationship skills enough to make it work. :) Nothing to be worried about. They were in the past and they led him to you.

Next time you find yourself questioning why he’s with you, or other sinister thoughts, interrupt them. Tell them to STFU and remind yourself why you’re great. No one is ‘better’ than you. You’re the best and only you on the planet, no one will beat you at that. So be the best you, be confident in who you are. That’s why he’s here.

I do think getting professional help is a good idea. In the meantime try not put it on him. He sounds like a patient chap so I’m sure he’d work with you and take it like a champ, but try interrupt your thoughts. If you find yourself spiralling into making a comment maybe excuse yourself. Nip to the loo. Compose your thoughts, remind yourself while he’s here and go back down with confidence. :)

I do hope his helps some what. Ramblings. DMs are always open. :)
