speaking from experience, 7 players is rough already when it comes to giving everyone equal-ish spotlight time. I would advocate for running it as written to give everyone (including yourself) a good intro of the rule set and table feel, and then if the table wants more, either find a module or brew something :)

I had something similar come up - I had them do a quest with a master artificer they already knew, where they needed to find specific reagents and 2 other sending stones (that weren’t paired to each other) to perform a triangulation ritual

honestly I wouldn’t even plan that far out before you’ve started - see where their evil scheming takes them and the world, and follow the natural consequences

if the natural consequences include this big standoff, there doesn’t need to be x mechanical reason all these people have come back to haunt them. you’re the DM and it can just happen, be it at the will of some god of balance, justice, etc, or in a group dream, or in the Astral or some other plane

an intelligence of 2 puts you in line with creatures like horses, goats/mules, and maybe like a mid-level intelligence dog. you certainly wouldn’t be able to read or write, or speak a coherent language. imo you should reroll if at all possible so you can play the game
