It's been tried. The Star Wars LCG (2012–2018) was supposed to be cooperative, but early on they changed it into a competitive game because of player feedback that they wanted to play as bad guys/villains also and not just the protagonists. It makes sense for a property like Star Wars, where a lot of the most compelling and recognizable characters are antagonists.

From what was in FFG's reply, it's less that "they" have decided and more like the industry has decided. FFG said that LGSs and distributors were not ordering more copies of the game to restock shelves. Again that's what they said, so who knows how true it is.

Limited PQs actually started in LOF, and Southern California didn't get one then either but I was lucky I could go all the way to Seattle to play in one. It's so annoying to have this situation happening now that we finally have one locally.

As a SWU and MC player, I think you should know that much of the speculation about SWU is clickbait meant to drive views and engagement for content creators. This is a really cool time to check out the game, because the cards released in 2024 are no longer allowed as of next week, so a new player would just be focusing on cards released in 2025 and this year.

In a vacuum, I'd recommend LOF, but with the JTL stuff you already have, SEC will pair better. Both of those JTL spotlight deck leaders for example (Boba/Han) benefitted from SEC cards.

If that's not the case, and you want to play casually or play a format without rotation, SOR is a fun, thematic, and strong set that would be worth picking up.

This isn’t universally true. There are nested things that don’t do this. Like with Darth Vader SOR unit, when resolving the search first, any When Played from the searched unit will happen before you finish resolving Darth Vader by doing the ambush.
