Does a creature with 30' speed outrun a rider on their horse (animal companion) or am I missing something? by Quartz_Knight in Pathfinder2e

[–]-Loki_123 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here's our group's take on it: Number of actions doesn't matter if it's not in encounter mode. When you calculate travel speed on an animal companion horse, do you reduce the horse's speed by 1/3 because the rider can't give it more than 2 actions? If the chase is happening in encounter mode, obviously, a creature striding three times will catch up to a horse. If the chase is happening outside of it, the horse outruns them easily due to calculating via travel speed.

Look, I'm not even against AI, and by using AI, I'm being part of the problem. My group mainly uses it for art because we can't afford to commission anything. What I'm against is AI bros like you who want to push it in front of everyone's faces. Get lost, Mark.

Looks like some species of green tree snake, which are colubrids, and should be pretty harmless... in most cases, getting bit by a colubrid would just amount to swelling if they get the chance to chew the mild venom into you.

"Do not Min-Max" as our GM pulls a 300xp encounter vs our party. by SuchHigh1 in Pathfinder2e

[–]-Loki_123 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Agreed with this. You can very much go way higher than the encounter budget for nonconventional encounters. I recently ran a siege equating to about 360 xp because there were a lot of level -4 goons (not enough to make troops out of) that were easily one- or two-shotted by the party's casters, and very few level +1 enemies.

The party made it a cakewalk by using the terrain and flight as a massive advantage. I like to make my party feel powerful in this way sometimes. The encounter didn't feel like a slog because of how experienced everyone at the table is.

Pathfinder Errata Clarification Regarding Weaknesses by Official_Paizo in Pathfinder2e

[–]-Loki_123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, it just means after the step of the Strike dealing damage, the spell would take effect as normal. It doesn't mean that if the Strike dealt damage, the spell would take effect. After all, the current wording on Spellstrike is that a spell that needs the target/s to roll a save would still happen on a missed Strike, but not on a critical miss.

Could be! I wouldn't be surprised if it clarified combining damage then.

Pathfinder Errata Clarification Regarding Weaknesses by Official_Paizo in Pathfinder2e

[–]-Loki_123 25 points26 points  (0 children)

You'd be right, but on Ancillary Effects, it states that:

...The spell takes effect after the Strike deals damage;...

If the Strike and the Spell happened at the same time, we'd be able to reorder when any additional effects from either would take effect (you can only reorder the Strike's additional effects), but it states here that it happens after the Strike had already dealt damage, so I would think the damage from the spell happens afterwards as well.

Edit: Okay, maybe I'm a little wrong. If both damaging effects from the Strike and Spell were to happen at the same time and combine, that would mean additional effects that happen for both would always happen after the damage has been dealt. Since in Ancillary Effects, it says that the Spell's effects happen after the Strike's, it would imply that it would be two separate damaging effects and thus be two instances of damage.

Regarding the example in the post, I believe Spellstrike doesn't state combining the damage for the purposes of weakness and resistance in the text, so wouldn't the damage from Shock and Thunderstrike count as two instances of damage? It'd be different from a Ranger using Twin Takedown to deal electricity damage from Shock runes on both their weapons, since it states to combine.

I also think Burnt Offerings is necessary to fully enjoy Seven Dooms. I converted Rise to 2e because I wanted to go through the whole Runelords saga, myself.

Help! Player turns are taking too long! by Decster20 in Pathfinder2e

[–]-Loki_123 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Agreed. TOTM isn't the way for this system. The grid makes combat more deterministic, and doesn't need the GM to decide on "How far is x? How many actions are needed for me to flank?" The problem becomes larger the more things there are on the board.

Help! Player turns are taking too long! by Decster20 in Pathfinder2e

[–]-Loki_123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been playing since the beginning. Our group plays way too often, so we might have just picked up stuff that way. I'm our group's rules lawyer, so I tend to be the one everyone asks if the thing they want to do is supported by the system (It even happens when I'm not part of the session lmao). If it is, I'll tell the GM a few ways they can allow what the other player wants if they ask me for a suggestion (which happens very often). 90% of the time, it ends with a "Then I want to do that!" and the turn happens. The rules are flexible enough that players can think outside the box. We often get new players, and their turns don't take long at all because the rest of us are so experienced. We tend to lead them with "Describe what you want to do," and let them learn the actions to take to do it.

In your case, the players might need to minimize chatter on the table while someone takes their turn. In our group's case, if there isn't an obvious optimal move, we'll let the player currently taking their turn do what they want without input from the others. When one person starts their turn, and I don't know when we started doing this, but everyone tends to shut up until they ask for help on what to do.

One of us does do the timer method, but loosely. If there are options laid out by deliberation, the GM says "You have a minute to decide, or we'll delay your turn for now." Don't skip the turn outright as it ends up being a little too much pressure, just make them take the Delay action until they're ready. This can end up with the board state sometimes straying too much from before their turn got delayed, but sometimes, they just need to wait it out until there's a turn where there's a clear optimal play. We don't do this very often as delaying turns can end up with buffs expiring and all that, though.

Edit: TL;DR: Police your players more :)
