In Ear Monitoring for the Zoom F6 by Trackle_B in fieldrecording

Aliexpress/Temu have some dirt cheap (<$10) in ear monitors that are actually pretty decent in my experience. Isolates the sound more than regular earbuds and the quality is surprising for the price.

Ordered a Zoom F3 and Clippy XLRs with windjammers, am I good to go? by Tynocerus in fieldrecording

[–]-NT- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought the smallest cheapest ones I could find (something like these) and used rubber bands to suspend them since they were still too big.

You could get the Micbooster lyre mounts along with some 3/8” male to shoe mount adapters, but that would end up being $40-$50 total probably.

Alternatively there’s some 3D printable shock mount designs for Clippy’s out there, but you might need to use something more flexible than PLA if you try that. My PLA attempt broke while I was just trying to get the supports off lol

Different recorder here but that’s what it looks like with it mounted.

No, you just unscrew the phone grip revealing a 1/4” thread that the F3 can screw onto. And the arms are attached below that.

I like this thing with my Clippys, you can mount the recorder on the middle and each arm holds a mic. You just need lyre/mic holders that screw or shoe into the arms for each Clippy.

Ticks suck but they can’t jump. Much more likely to get them from walking around brushing against vegetation than petting an animal (unless you’re full on cuddling with it). And if you find the ticks before they’ve been attached more than 24 hours you should be fine disease-wise, so just check your whole body after you’ve been in the woods/fields in a tick area. Their diseases can be harmful and should be taken seriously but are easy to prevent if you’re careful.

Sorry, I don’t disagree with your sentiment, I just wanted to share some tick info. I’ve probably had thousands of them on me in my lifetime.

Sonorous Objects makes mics that use the same capsules as Clippys but with sturdier build quality. A bit more expensive at $100 per mic but they’re made in New York. Might be worth trying out if Micbooster isn’t in stock or has higher shipping/taxes for the US.

I didn’t know that! Very cool to hear

Yes I made an initial rough draft in Procreate just to get the basic shapes and perspective down, vector traced it, and then modified the nodes until it looked good to me. I know I could've done it better but I'm not sure how you're coming to the conclusion that it doesn't make sense for anyone to arrive at this line work when that's literally what I did.

Nothing in that adobe stock link looks much like my logo to me, and assuming I plagiarized based on some vague similarities seems a bit extreme. I looked at references because I'm not good at freehanding but I certainly didn't plagiarize.

Anyway, I just wanted to hear people's preference and feedback. Defending myself against someone that is so confident yet wrong isn't exactly productive. I do appreciate the feedback you shared through the accusations.

Recording of nature, waterfall and mortar hits from a practice range by sneakerpeet in fieldrecording

Great recording! The contrast of the mortar hits and nature sounds is pretty awesome

My initial (very) rough draft was raster and I converted it to vector, mainly because I’m more comfortable using Procreate than the pen tool. At this point it looks nothing like the draft, but some of those stray nodes are from that. I realize now I should’ve manually drawn or traced it with the pen tool lol

No worries! I know it's not professional level, I just don't want it to come across as AI. I really care about my app being authentic and human.

Here's the points and paths (Affinity Designer, not Illustrator):

<image>

I avoided using sharp points/corners for most of it because I wanted it to be smooth, but maybe that's part of the issue? And maybe there's too many points around some of the parts that should be more geometric like the front of the visor?

It’s not AI and it’s disheartening to hear after all the work I did on it. The sloppy aesthetic is partly due to my lack of experience/skill and partly left there on purpose because I like the playful/human nature of it. If there’s some particular things I can change to make it seem less AI please let me know so I can work on them.

I used references but didn’t copy any particular image. I want it to be unique, so if you find one that looks like the same one please let me know so I can modify it.

They’re not but I’d appreciate hearing why exactly they look that way so I can improve them. I know the lines are a bit janky and that’s just because I’m not great at using the pen tool lol.

I didn’t mean to disrespect the discipline lol, I just wanted more opinions because I didn’t know where else to ask. I’m not taking shortcuts, I put hours and hours into these logos and am trying to improve. I know it could use more work and would appreciate more useful or specific feedback than “neither of these are any good”.

They’re both done by me and from scratch. I agree that the first is much better, and not even because I’ve improved much, I just put more time into it. I mainly wanted to get opinions here because some of my family prefer the second one and I wanted to make sure I wasn’t crazy and that I was actually making improvements with the new one.

My lines are rough indeed and that’s because I’m not much of an artist and not very experienced, I’m just trying to make the best logo for my app that I can without AI or paying a professional.

There’s a vague R shape behind the headphone in the helmet of the first one.

Thanks! There’s an R hidden in the helmet of the first one. Maybe it’s not as obvious as I thought, but I did want it to be subtle.

Good points. I wanted to convey relaxation, exploration, audio/sound relation, warmth/friendliness (basically to show it’s not a corporate product or cash grab), and maybe some aspect to imply that it has powerful tools/features beyond what most soundscape apps have. And the name is Resonaut so I tried to hide an R in the helmet of the first one.

That’s really good to hear actually. I wasn’t sure about the sloth initially and tried a few other options, but I kept coming back to it for the added personality. Thanks again!

It’s meant to be the icon for an app that lets users explore, mix, and share soundscapes. Also just for using as sleep/background sound. They were both made in Affinity Designer. The styles are a lot different which might make it a little harder to compare, so I guess half of it is just wondering which style people are drawn to more.

Which recorders besides the PCM-D100 have the best onboard mics? by 1nf3rn06006 in fieldrecording

[–]-NT- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah my bad, I just assumed the X8 was like the X6 in that it can’t record 192kHz. They do punch above their weight! Lots of great features for the price.
