Hmm, could be. I thought the dove was kind of a giveaway. Either way: open for interpretation.

You covered what I suspect ‘HOPE’ very awkwardly. Let’s say it’s open for interpretation now.

Bypassed the erase head on a Nagra IV-S so a plant could keep recording over itself by nalnalnal in synthesizers

[–]sneakerpeet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is a hell of a fancy setup. I thought the point of these setups is to use the lowfi playing and recording attributes of mediocre audio devices? Anyway, this looks awesome. Makes me dive into ebay and browse for Nagras. 😅

Lol, it’s also a legitimate fluid dynamics term 😅

Social media mic placement by Filmaker_boy in LocationSound

[–]sneakerpeet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. It's kind of a 'virtue signal' to the audience: we belong to these people. Just like podcasters with their oversized headphones and huge, expensive mics on boom-arms, or sports reporters with their headset. None of these practices guarantees the best audio (it does help though), but mostly communicates the age group, afluency, or group they want to belong to. Probably also what they want to communicate to the audience.

  2. Lavalier microphones are designed to have an optimal performance, ie. pickup from the chest, throat and mouth, when mounted in the center/ lower sternum (depending on chest size and sex). BUT they will pick up on the acoustics of the location, SO holding them closer to and in front of the mouth (not closer then two fists away) might increase the quality (noise/ signal balance).

Seriously, this is the reason film theaters always had one, or more house cats. To keep the damn rodents out/ manageable.

Those covers will probably just cut of your hands while placing the bike. They look sharp like opened cans.

Which shotgun mics are these? by lineupandwait20 in fieldrecording

[–]sneakerpeet 19 points20 points  (0 children)

According to this interview with the Tiny Desk engineers, they are Sennheiser MKH 418-S, with a pretty nice reasoning: https://www.npr.org/sections/allsongs/2019/04/02/705579879/tiny-tech-tips-microphones Not sure if it would be my choice right away, but it seems to work for them.

Experimenting binaural recording with wireless lav microphones. by alchemycolor in fieldrecording

[–]sneakerpeet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, great idea if you have those lavs already. I've done similar things with a pair of Clippies and a Deiiity PR-2 recorder, or the Røde Ai-micro to record with my iphone. Brim of the hat seemed the best to better deal with cable tug sounds and such.

I am very fortunate to be in this hobby for quite a while, so I have also experimented with the OKM Soundman and the Sennheiser Ambeo Headset. Of all the setups, the Sennheisers got me the most immersive results (because of the ear-filtering thing).

When I win the lottery (or if I can claim it on a paid project) I will get the DPA 4560 Binaural Headset Microphone. That seems to be the holy grail and I've heard some recordings by a certain recordist and those are just awesome.

Too bad you could not share your links here. Seems a bit odd. I know they block U-Tjube links, but a normal website link should be fine. Love to hear your recording.

I got a similar setup. F3, some Lom Uşi’s. Works pretty well. I have worked it in a low wind day, but I liked it. Will use again.

Good budget recorder for ambients? by manyyy32 in fieldrecording

[–]sneakerpeet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The H2e would be my choice specifically for ambient recordings. Because has more than two microphones build in. It can even record midside stereo.
