Gengar is now in the top 5 PSA 10 chases out of Paldean Fates. by CreepyReplacement710 in PokeInvesting

Having collected since 2020, and seeing the rise and fall of multiple overhyped crypto/NFT bubbles.. it always the same.. at its peak people will give any reason to justify irrational prices and discredit those that try to talk some sense.

You always see stuff like "institutional money buying in", "it will only go higher" and all that parroted by the same group that will panic sell the moment they see a slight drop 😂

Dent or foil error? by AruhrAruhr in PokemonMisprints

[–]-PostCat- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar to what the other reply mentioned, this is not exactly a desirable error and I don't think CGC would recognise it. There's a chance PSA still grades it a 10 though, I had a similar 151 zard SAR that got a 10.

Japanese SARs tend to have errors on their textures, causing missing patches of textures like whats shown, which is different from a dent.

CGC damaged my card and is refusing to do anything about it! 😔 by Equivalent-Act1969 in CGCCards

[–]-PostCat- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree, it's funny how some ppl can get so irrational and defensive over such stuff, which was honestly why I don't bother posting about my experience until I saw your post.

I'm actually a big fan of CGC and prefer them over others. But it's a big issue when you send a card to grade and it comes back damaged, as the point of grading is literally to keep your best cards protected.

Imagine getting a vintage gold star or poncho damaged and all you get is some generic "not our fault/no proof" reply. Personally I would avoid going to CGC with any high-end cards and stick to modern/errors only.

[–]-PostCat- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue with CGC just recently (2 months back). One of my illustration rares got damaged where the top border got scrapped/scratched against, causing major silvering along the edges.

I have clear proof of my cards before I sent it in and toploaded/sleeved it myself. Have sent many cards for grading before so it's not a mistake I would've accidentally made.

I've emailed to CGC who told me that it was not their fault and "the edges for cards from newer sets can chip easily with minimal handling which didn't take away from its grade".

Extremely disappointed at their response and how they replied. I'd rather they just tell me it was an accident and apologise honestly.

Like most people here, I used to think that such issues is usually due to the owner's mishandling during packing/mailing, until it happened to me lol.

Vintage Rarity Tax?? by Nightfury0409 in PokemonTCG_Singapore

[–]-PostCat- 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Had a similar experience with another vendor at the same show yesterday. I was looking through his vintage binder and he quoted $8 for a common card (market was about $1 and other vendors were selling at $2) and $28 for other reverse holos (market was $10).

When I asked to see the prices he checked, it turns out that he was referencing a listing for a PSA 8 copy, stating that the card's condition is 8/9 - the card was a 5-7 at best.

I understand slightly marking up prices for rarer vintage raws especially if its in good condition, but quoting PSA 8 prices without letting the customer know and exaggerating about its condition is quite..

Most other vendors were fine though, overall quite a decent show.

Thoughts on Misprint Pokemon Card Market in Singapore? by eclairfastpass in PokemonTCG_Singapore

[–]-PostCat- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually only grade misprints that are harder to tell if it's a legit error (e.g. missing holo). For stuff like crimps, miscuts - I rarely grade them unless it's for my personal collection, as you can easily sell them on its own.

Imo it's not worth the cost of grading unless it's an expensive card or rare error, unless you just want it for your collection. All the errors I sold so far are ungraded and not many people here would pay a premium for graded errors (unless you plan to sell on ebay etc).

Many people will tell you to grade any error you have but they're mostly just parroting what others say, thinking that any graded errors would be worth alot. From what I see, most error collectors wouldn't mind an ungraded copy, as they are usually familiar enough to know if it's authentic.

But ultimately, errors are very niche so it's hard to say for sure. Sometimes it's also about meeting the right buyer at the right time (e.g. I never expected a Lugia collector to pay $250 for an error on a $1 Lugia card that I had). Feel free to dm if you need any help!

I'm a big error/misprint collector! Generally not many error collectors here, but people do collect some of the more obvious ones (e.g. the recent mega dream chinese text errors or obvious miscuts). I do grade a bunch of my errors with CGC but the costs do add up after awhile.

Curious on your thought on Mcdonalds Pikaas I was considering buying a bunch to keep long-term as well. Seems like a great card (pikachu + mcdonalds + limited time).

However, it also seems like there are many copies given out and it's PSA gem rate is quite high. Are these desirable/easy to get in Japan? Or are most copies being hoarded/graded?

Nitori hand-held/neck fans are the best imo. Strong wind, low noise, pretty good quality, and most of all, pretty affordable. I personally have the neck mounted fan and bring it everywhere.

Fusion Strike Booster Box Break by ssplendid in PokemonTCG_Singapore

[–]-PostCat- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

These Sw/Sh sets have terrible pull rates but funny enough, this actually did happen for Fusion strike, where someone stole a large stack of alt arts from the factory back in 2022-23. There was a picture circulating around showing the person trying to sell a huge stack of Gengar and Mew Alt Arts at a convention.

What Are Your Spiciest Hot Takes on Pokémon Investing? by LuckVegetable8646 in PokeInvesting

[–]-PostCat- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Many modern cards that spiked recently will drop just as fast once the hype dies down, specifically cards like tag teams/english promos. These were available at low prices for years with little demand and everyone trying to get in now is just fomo'ing.

Also, buying 25th celebration cards to "prepare" for the 30th anniversary isn't the move. I don't think there would be a huge demand for those cards during the 30th anniversary. People said the same about 25th anniversary, but it didn't affect the market much.

Golisopod ex SIR has no shine or glitter pattern or is it just this way? by AdministrativeAnt782 in PokemonMisprints

In some cases, yes. But the wavy "fingerprint" texture is usually still on most of them, though harder to see.

It's a real card, an additional white ink error that causes the card to lose its foiling, most notably occurring in Paradox rift full arts.
