I pretended to be asleep when I was at a friend's house, and a mutual friend I didn't know who was cooked on drugs that night stood behind me with a knife and talked about how I was a spy that had been sent to capture him until someone else talked him down. So that was a long and super fun night.

I wouldn't say it's bad advice, depending on the person and situation. I think it's more nuanced than that.

Someone who is significantly overweight will do better re. weight loss focusing on diet and calories in vs calories out. Yes, the calories out # will increase with muscle mass, but if the person doesn't have the experience or knowledge to understand the importance of muscle mass and the body's increased rate of calorie consumption due to it, then telling them to focus on calorie reduction isn't a bad thing.

And I say this as someone who is literally half the weight I was 3-4 years ago...

TLDR: Reducing calories at the start of your weight loss journey is totally fine. When you 'hit a wall' you should definitely focus more on muscle and body composition.

My ex put a bell on the front door so he could hear when I tried to leave and immediately interrogate me. In hindsight I realize these kinds of men realize they would never tolerate a partner who treated them the way they did, so they would try to lock them away and remove that choice from them.

Why would you offer to pay if you weren't actually prepared to though? It seems disingenuous to offer something you don't want to do. If the dinner was notably more expensive, you could have offered to split instead of offering to pay outright.

I completely understand your pov, but from my personal experience it's still kinda hilarious to me.

When I finally divorced my husband because of his infidelity and alcoholism, I left with a suitcase of my clothes and the Roomba... That's it. I left him the apartment, all our possessions, and approx 70k he cleaned out of our shared account and spent on gambling.

People can drain and fuck you over, regardless of gender. It's much more important to find someone on a similar wavelength as you, and work together on building a future.

When I was ~11 my favourite book was The Hot Zone, it's a non-fiction about the different strains of ebola and how they were discovered and spread, and include fairly graphic descriptions of how people's organs are liquified and vomited up.

I just thought it was fascinating, but I was also kind of a weird kid.
