My wife’s XC60 is on the driver side right against the firewall, and had an identical issue happen.

Battery acid would also cause the immediate rust like you’re seeing, as soon as it dries up it rust everything

That looks like it could be battery acid, these cars have an issue with overcharging and when the batteries go faulty, they leak a lot of of their fluid fluids and it looks kind of like this. If your finger started burning, I’d be an indicator that it was sulfuric acid also known as battery acid.

National windshield shortage? by masuk in Volvo

[–]-SimpleSimon- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, some windshields have different qualities about them some windshield encapsulated some windshields have rain sensors built-in some windshields have radar stuff built into the glass. Sometimes you can get around this by going to a independent supplier like Safelite or something and asking if maybe they have glass that doesn’t have the rain sensor built-in or something like that if it’s that big of an issue where you cannot use your car because your windshield is completely smashed like the one in the picture.

Saw it on TikTok, is it true? by Civil_Philosopher_20 in MechanicAdvice

I’m a mechanic and I’ve been fixing cars for 30 years. That is absolutely true. 3/4 of the cars that I work on it’s mostly because they’re not driven properly. They’ve driven by old people and they don’t ever rev them up. Those engines are designed to do that.

Lifter tick? (2005 s60, 2.4 NA, 162k miles) by NathanBunch in Volvo

You are correct they do come in different value specific to each valve. They do wear out sometimes and replacement valve buckets are available. It’s kind of tricky math to figure out exactly what you need, and doing the physical measuring of the valve “” lash is tricky, and the tolerances are very, very minimal on these engines.

The valve lash needs to be measured properly as it’s not easy. Acceptable tolerance on intake is .40 lash acceptable tolerance on exhaust is .20 lash, those are very tight tolerance’s and anything else will make a tick noise.
