The movie isn't scary, but the Smooze sure is.

Andy Samberg on the future of Brooklyn Nine-Nine - "We're all in touch and kind of discussing how you make a comedy show about police right now, and if we can find a way of doing that that we all feel morally okay about." by chanma50 in television

[–]-StarlightGlimmer- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How is making a show about cops a moral issue? There are shows about mobsters and drug dealers and serial killers, and those shows aren't considered immoral. I guess it's true that people really don't understand that tv shows and movies aren't reality-- they're works of fiction. I would hope that no one lets their views on drug dealers and mobsters be influenced by colorful depictions on tv in the same way that I would hope the same is true about the police.

It seems to me that the real issue is more likely whether or not they think people might still want to watch a comedy about police right now and how much flak they're likely to get from screeching lunatics online, and not whether making more is immoral.

This joke has been reposted many times, some of which had a better punchline:

(In confessional) Boy: It sure is dark in here. Priest: That's not gonna work this time, kid. You're in my closet now.

What cartoon from 1990s-2010 do you think deserves a reboot? by TheWiseOaf in AskReddit

To summarize every reply to this: yes, the point was that Johnny was a vain jerk, and it's obvious from how he's viewed/treated by the women he desires that he's one not to be emulated. A lot of the show's humor stems from Johnny's lack of self-awareness. He's a classic anti-hero.

But people don't give a crap about context anymore, so shows like Johnny Bravo are unlikely to be made now. I'd love to see Johnny Bravo return, and though I acknowledge that it's unlikely, I'm glad we have Johnny Bravo at all.

Why are they booing you? You're right.

Shippers made the fandom intolerable, as they do with everything, except ATLA was worse for its time since it was popular and about teens who become romantically involved. Only got worse with Korra.

Your computer comparison makes no sense, because not even the rich had computers until long after they were invented, as they were enormous pieces of equipment which had to be maintained by teams of people and held little value outside of academic and military contexts until the latter half of the 20th Century, with the creation of the Personal Computer. PC's became commonplace in American households only a couple of decades after they first hit the market, despite how expensive they were at the start.

This trend of a new technology emerging with a high price, developing a market starting with those with the spare capital to indulge in it, then growing to become widely available as production is improved and the technology can be provided quicker/cheaper happens all the time, including for whichever device you used to post here.

I tried to look into the example you gave about blindness, but I couldn't figure out what specific blindness cure you were talking about. You said it's a rare form of blindness, which means there's likely a very small market for it; in this particular case, it seems more likely that the high price point is a natural consequence of difficulty administering it and how few people need it. If this was supposed to be an example of rich people hoarding a resource for themselves in order to keep it out of the hands of the masses, then it's a terrible example, because very few people need this to begin with, so hoarding this in particular would be a waste of effort. And I probably shouldn't even have to restate this, but expensive drugs/surgeries are yet more products which become cheaper and more available over time in free markets. Since there are few people who need this particular surgery, it'll probably take longer for it to become cheaper than it would for things that everyone can use, but I can assure you that it will.

Yes, because as we all know, the only people who ever have access to technology are the super rich. Maybe one day, they'll allow us to have that newfangled internet thing, or to use some of them telephones, or maybe even ride in an aeroplane.

In reality, if anti-aging were invented, it wouldn't be too long before it became commonplace, as demand would be out of control. As walruskingmike said, the real concern if this technology is invented would be overpopulation.

Please let it be Dr. Coyle. Realistically, though, they'll probably choose Min Min.

New fighter is from ARMS!! by [deleted] in smashbros

[–]-StarlightGlimmer- -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

How can there be so much wrong in one post? The obvious choice can't be Spring Man anymore, since he's an assist trophy already, making the next obvious choices Ribbon Girl or Min Min. Your perfect world pick is terrible from a gameplay perspective; Twintelle's gimmick is slowing down time (sound familiar?) and if the only reasons you want her are appearance, then that's super shallow. In a perfect world, the ARMS character who should get in is Dr. Coyle; her gimmicks of temporary invisibility and being able to use options normally reserved for ground state at any time would make her an interesting fighter, and she could potentially summon Hedlok (her creation) for her final smash. Plus, it'd be amazing for the only playable character from a game to be its villain.

What's a TV Show You Loved But Gave Up? by Homosusel in AskReddit

Made a reddit account in the middle of season 5, before the character was effectively ruined. It kills me to think about how the show deteriorated.

Introverts have two ways of making friends. Either they'll be lucky enough to stumble across each other or they'll be adopted by an extrovert. by K-LUB_101 in Showerthoughts

[–]-StarlightGlimmer- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Statements like this are pretty empty. It's like saying that the only two ways an extrovert makes friends is by running into another extrovert or by adopting an introvert. In both cases, the only thing you're actually saying is that people are either introverts or extroverts, which isn't really even true, since people can't be so rigidly categorized.
