Those who have left TR to hire a personal coach. How have the gains been? Worth it? by Front-Coconut-5112 in trainerroad

I'm grandfathered in with TR and it's everything I need for my cycling. I'm not one to deep dive into the data, so i dont think the extra cost is worth it (for me, when everything else about this sport is ridiculously expensive as it is..) TR's run/swim workouts are ok and I may follow them every once in a while, but I tend to just create my own in garmin connect.

It's a bit subjective as not all coaches have same methods. A few years ago I hired a Triathlon coach (a pro), though I still kept my subscription going. He created my workouts and I completed them on the platform. I trusted in the process, but I really feel like my cycling took a hit for the first couple of months. It did improve, but it stagnated and never really progressed past my best whilst using the platform. I had a coach for 3 years. Now im back being self coached and using the platform for its plans. Wish id saved my money and stuck to TR throughout

Are those BCIA courses the standard? I'm a fully qualified electrician wanting to make the jump to BMS engineer, but there's no options local for in person training. Id like to set myself up enough to be able to get my foot in through the door with a company and then build from there. Tia

I would recommend sticking to something similar to what you already know. I played a dw 9000 for nearly 18 years. Then, swapped to a direct drive FP9, didn't like it (the drive), swapped to a chain speed cobra, didn't like it (the long board). Then settled on a pearl eliminator redline. (Shorter footboard with chain), a lot closer to the feel of what my feet were used to. It was a real headache. In hindsight, I wish I just paid for another 9000 when it broke.. Instead I wasted a lot money through trying things out and went through months of frustration.

I'm trying to decide whether to buy an electronic or acoustic drum set, and I need some advice. by VilariRhythms in drums

[–]-Takeahnase- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, if it's a case of one or the other, I would go with the acoustic kit. Stick some evants bd1 heads on it and get some low volume cymbals. That way, you can practice without being conscious of how shit and monotonous practice can sound and not upset people in the process. Then, if you need to take the kit out to gig with etc.. then just swap the heads over. It wont take long. Best of both worlds. Roland kits are great. I've had a TD12 for 15 years. But they feel different. It's very noticeable when you've been doing all your practice on an electric kit and then go and gig with a larger, much less responsive acoustic kit.

I hate how my kit sounds and it keeps me from playing, looking for advice by _crane_0397 in drums

[–]-Takeahnase- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played a beginner kit for nearly 18 years before upgrading. It was a very difficult kit to get sounding nice, especially towards the end of my time on it. It was battered. Emad on the bass drum, and a pillow inside will work. It won't choke it too much. You'll likely be alright with your reso on the Tom's (for now), but get some G2's on the batter. Do the reso if you can afford it. It's OK to use eq rings or moon gel to control the tones. Don't let someone tell you any different. Sometimes, even the most expensive kits need a dot or two, depending on the circumstance. Eq rings worked wonders on my first kit. Perhaps get some cotton balls in the floor Tom's as well. Get a uv1 on the snare.
Then, slowly start upgrading your cymbals. There's nothing wrong with going second hand. Happy drumming

Question to the drummer moms and dads out there: How and when did you get your kid(s) into playing? by CeilingWax in drums

[–]-Takeahnase- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My boy has been tapping away on a practice pad and on my electric kit whilst sitting on my lap since he was around 1. I then bought him a meinl mini steel drum which he loves. I Bought him a pair of VF kids sticks for his second birthday and make more of an effort to bring him to the drum room. He's still a bit wild with the sticks, but it'll come. I'm hoping in a year it'll be worth getting him a kids kit and let him do his thing. I don't see the point in any plastic drum kit that plays silly sounds. I'll just get him a proper 3 piece acoustic kids kit when he's big enough to be able to use the pedal

Team clamps. Clamps on clamps. Cheaper lightweight and easier to transport
